I think because they have so many applicants this year the programs may be stressing the GRE more soo as a way to ween people out, despite them being qualified. It is nice to know that many people do have to apply 2 or 3 years in a row to get in, however considering I took a year off already to prepare its just a frustrating thought so I can keeping my fingers crossed for Rutgers. I am waiting to hear from Bay Path and Thomas Jefferson, both of which have deadlines in march so my stress continues until I hear from them :-( But thank you I am trying to stay strong, I do agree that it only takes 1 interview to get in! Thank you for your kind words and encouragement!

I interviewed there last year and it's the weekly case conference they do where the faculty and students discuss and present on interesting cases they had. Applicants don't have to do anything except listen. Some people had interviews scheduled during the conference, so they would be pulled out by the faculty. Most people didn't and were able to stay the whole time though. I haven't heard anything from UCI and I'm freaking out a little bit. That was the one interview I thought was guaranteed since I'd gotten one last year. It was one of my top choices too.

I'm grateful that I have some interviews already, but I really liked the location of UCI and their program. I even had a cousin who planned to move out there with me if I ended up getting in there. It's disappointing.

Gadgette Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 @Ellaie I used to live just down the road from the medical center. I'd love to be back in the area. My parents are about an hour and a half from there and my dad's going through some pretty serious health issues, so I would love to be close by.

Ultrapeaches Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 (edited) According to the time stamp, UCI sent me the interview email at 2:06 AM, which makes me think that it was some kind of auto-emailer. That combined with the wording of the email ("The faculty admissions committee has completed its initial review of applications to the Master's Program in Genetic Counseling and has selected about a quarter of the candidates whom we would like to invite for a visit and interviews. ") make me think that they've likely sent most of them, but pretty much all the schools have sent out a handful more when some applicants declined their interviews. I went to VCU last week and it cost me rent to fly out there. I will say I did wait a little too long to buy tickets so I recommend buying your tickets the day you get your interview email

It feels like some of the programs are taking a lot longer this year, but this is my first time applying so that could just be stress. It feels like applications went in ages ago. I actually just completed everything and submitted my application yesterday, so I probably shouldn't let myself get too anxious until after the deadline approaches. I'm curious to see if they wait until after the deadline to start inviting applicants. I'm selfishly hoping that not as many people were aware of their program so there's less competition for getting an interview

Last I reached out to Zohra from the program she said applicants will be notified by no later then March 17th :-) The interview dates they will have are March 31st and April 7th. Fingers crossed for us!

DNA15 Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Hi everyone, I have been following this forum for a while but have not yet posted. I am a second time applicant and I applied to 14 programs. I felt pretty confident that I should be able to get four interviews but at this time I have two. I am excited to have those two, but can't help but feel a bit disheartened after all of the work I put into re-applying and strengthening my application over the last couple of years At this time I still have four programs to hear from (Pitt, USC, USF and UCI) I have contacted each, USC and Pitt replied to me early in the week- both said they are still under review but hope to send out rejection letters in the next several weeks. It looks like there are others here awaiting replies from these programs and I'm just wondering where others are at, if you're assuming they are rejections or if you're holding out. I am an optimist so I want to stay positive but no one will give me a clear answer if I should assume it is unlikely at this point to receive an interview offer. Any input is appreciated.

Either way I'm preparing myself for rejection. I did the same with Utah and it kind of helped, kind of. No news is good news, but I'm letting myself down gently just in case. VCU gave us good information on the Unmatched Applicant program. Not sure if that makes me feel better that there may be another shot this year if I don't get in on Match Day, or if it stresses me out. DNA15 1

I think they might be done sending out interview offers, but I could be wrong about that. I'm assuming that I was rejected from USC and UCI. USC I'm not too upset about, but UCI was me 2nd choice so that one hurts a little. If I do end up getting an interview I'll be ecstatic. At this point, though, I'm kind of assuming that I won't be hearing any good news from either program. I've tried calling UCI to ask if they are still sending out interview offers, but haven't been able to get anyone on the phone. DNA15 1
