Hey everyone just thought I would start up a thread for any audiology hopefuls applying for the 2017 year!

I am applying to UBC and Western this year. I have heard that Western is really difficult to get into. Does anyone know if UBC is any easier?

Hello everyone and good luck with the application process for 2017 entries!

I am currently working on my application process for Audiology as well.

I've heard that Aud. programs are pretty competitive, just wondering what is the most common GPA that applicants have when applying?

Thanks!

Hi, I am interested in applying to UWO as well.

I was just wondering, did you try to apply through the online ORPRAS application yet? It says on the website that they're not accepting applications until October 20th, so I'm assuming that the online application won't be accessible until that date? Either that or I've been doing something wrong.

Thanks!

Good luck on your application as well! :)

Ive heard that the average GPA of those admitted is a 3.7, so between 80-85% . Apparently Western is really big on grades, but I'm not sure about Dalhousie or UBC. It sucks because there are only three schools in Canada and they dont take many students..

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if they care about your specific major? I majored in Biochemistry, which seems distant from Audiology, but I have all the pre requisite courses and ample volunteer experience in audiology clinics and other rehab clinics. Do you think my major, being non-psychology/cognitive science/neuroscience, puts me at a disadvantage?

I am applying to UWO and Dal.

I know people who were accepted that had a Bachelor of Science, so I dont think it would put you at a disadvantage. I think if you have all the prerequisites and good grades it shouldn't matter too much. That's awesome that you have shadowed in other rehab clinics- what practitioners have you observed?

Best of luck with your applications!

Hello,

I have heard that Western, Dalhousie and UBC all take a minimum GPA of around 3.7 on a 4.0-scale (a minimum of 80-84%). I am not quite sure what the most common GPA applicants have when applying but I would assume it to be higher than that. Please, correct me if I am wrong.

Best of luck!

Hey guys!

When you're talking about GPA, are you talking about your overall GPA or GPA from the last 20 courses? Do they look into your overall GPA at all? As well, I've very recently decided I really want to minor in Linguistics, and am taking a bunch of first, second, and third year Linguistics courses in my final years to meet the criteria (I'm in a B.Sc. Psychology program). Does anyone know if the course levels in your final years affect the application? Would they think that I'm trying to take a lighter course load?

Hey!

When referencing GPA we mean the last 20 courses (10 credits), however schools also take into consideration your cumulative GPA (although there is less emphasis on it). I am not too sure how course level may impact your application, but I am sure a minor in Linguistics could only help you.

Thanks, Nadine! That makes more sense. I ended up speaking to them about my situation with the minor, and they said it really depends on the application as a whole and that it shouldn't be a deciding factor. That makes me feel a lot better!

Hey quick question,

For those who completed the GRE and had their scores sent to Dalhousie how long did it take?

Hey Everyone!

So after debating for a few years I ended up applying for AUD at Western. My grades from my undergrad are not stellar :( but I've been working as a hearing instrument specialist for 4 years and been a hearing clinic owner for 7 years. I hope my experience counts for something, but I'm aware that Western is big on grades. I hope my statement of intent expresses my love for this field. Good luck to everyone! :)
