FrostedAmbassador Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Rejected at Texas also. Congrats to those who got in! I'm guessing that no word from Berkeley, Chicago or Cornell means rejection there too....this has been pretty rough so far. Then again, it's not surprising.

readeatsleep Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Isn't 400 pretty standard? If they aim to have a cohort of 15-20, then at best a 50% yield rate means admitting about 40. A 10% acceptance rate seems pretty standard for a top dept, no? well, I imagine that some department can xpect more than 50 percent yield. And no, I think 10 percent is a bit high for top departments. Northwestern apparently had a 5 percent acceptance rate this year.

There haven't been any, although there have been a couple on the results page. I suppose we can't say for certain.
curufinwe Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Great, 3rd rejection with Austin. This process is getting a lot more interesting than I assumed. Congrats for who got in.
Concentration Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Hello, fellow applicants. I would like to reach out to any of you who were accepted at UNC and are concentrating in political theory. It's early, but I am interested in whether you are leaning in any given direction. PM me if you so desire -- thanks!
APGradApplicant Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 Congrats to all those admitted to UT-Austin today! I'll claim the latest acceptance posted under "government" (I had to remember to change my personal statement for them because of that, too, no mention of "political science", haha). I also was admitted to Oklahoma, although that is probably not where I'll be going . Still have no idea why Rochester can't just put me out my misery and tell me I'm rejected. Dude...it's just one click of a mouse!
blankets Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Still have no idea why Rochester can't just put me out my misery and tell me I'm rejected. Dude...it's just one click of a mouse! I'm in the same boat with Northwestern, and misery it is, especially since I'm theory and a lot of theory folks have already been rejected perthe results page, why hold out?!
mn06556 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 To those of you waiting for Northwestern...I applied there last year and didn't get my official rejection until mid-April sometime. I think they hold on to some of the applications after sending out the first wave of acceptances, because 3 or 4 people were admitted last year in March or April. There were several waves of rejections. I hope that helps.

I feel this way about Chicago, though no official rejections have been posted. Have you tried checking the online application for a 'view decision' button?

Same here. Are you secretly hoping that they put us on an imaginary waitlist?
curufinwe Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Did any of you Northwestern rejects by Will Reno get the "we really considered your application seriously, you were really good, but the increase in applicants... I blame that" attitude e-mail?
melekin Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Same here. Are you secretly hoping that they put us on an imaginary waitlist? Hi, new poster here. I'm also in the same boat re: Northwestern - though comparative politics. I'm assuming we are on a de facto waitlist (though I have no evidence to back that up). It helps to stay positive.
natofone Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 What is going on with these Princeton notifications...anyone?
CrimsonBlue Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 What is going on with these Princeton notifications...anyone? Perhaps, people are hearing back?!

Cicero Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 (edited) I'm interesting in hearing about what's going on with Princeton as well. I just about gave myself a heart attack. I checked my email after seeing all these Princeton posts on the results page, and saw that I had a new message. The word "Politics" was in the subject line.....turned out to be the Politics email update from the NYTimes.... Edited February 11, 2010 by Cicero

CrimsonBlue Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Does anyone know how they did notifications last year? It seems that the latest postings are of rejections ... maybe if you haven't gotten anything (and I haven't either! eek!), it means we made it past the first round? It sounds awesome, but we may be hoping for too much ?

It seems that the latest postings are of rejections ... maybe if you haven't gotten anything (and I haven't either! eek!), it means we made it past the first round? I hope that's what it means! I applied last year, and this year they are using a different application program. Last year I think they used either embark or applyourself, one of the ones I've seen used more often. So, its possible that the new system they are using this year may change how they disseminate results.

They accepted a few one day and then rejected everyone else the next: http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=(political|government|politics)+princeton&t=a&pp=250
Rory Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 oh wait - 2 of them are acceptances. now i'm really confused. maybe they're doing it by subfield? Or a hoax? I'm going for that interpretation until someone claims one of the postings...
CrimsonBlue Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Or a hoax? I'm going for that interpretation until someone claims one of the postings... This might be very true. Also, some people can just randomly show up and claim hahaha... I am so paranoid.
mn06556 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Now someone is apparently waitlisted at Princeton. Has anyone here heard anything at all from them?
