University of the Pacific - Cost

Recommended Posts

hello everyone

I received my acceptance email to UoP and I'm excited and terrified at the same.  Now that the adrenaline has died down, I'm doing a little research to get an idea on how much this would cost but I can't seem to get a clear picture from their website. From this forum, all I'm getting is that the program is pricey and that the 15-mo program is about 60k.

Are there any current students or recent graduates in this forum who can given me an idea? I was accepted into the 24-mo program so info on that specifically will be greatly appreciated.

thank you!

Thank for starting this thread. I was also offered admission to the 24-month program. Could anyone give some more info about the program? Positives and negatives? The location and cost is making me unsure about it, and I have been accepted to another accelerated program. But any feedback would be appreciated!

When I researched that school a couple years ago the cost was around 100k for the accelerated program. I'm not sure if they reduced the tuition but that was the reason I didn't pursue that program. I'm curious to know too.

Accelerated program was around 90k when I ran the numbers a few months ago. Definitely more than 60! If you work in a school district (I believe the districts around UOP) for 3?? years after, you get some (I could be wrong on this one, but I believe a considerable amount) of your loans waived. I would e-mail directly to find out more about that option. I chose not to apply based on cost and the lack of financial aid besides loans. A peer that got waitlisted there talked about the positives of the loan reimbursement program as she wants to work in the schools.

Program: The facilities are gorgeous with up to date equipment. I've volunteered with two UOP undergrads who have both raved about their intimate program and great faculty relationships. I was totally wow-ed during the open house with how grand the facilities were compared with my public school! If you get a chance to visit the program, I definitely would.

Location: It's Stockton- the city itself comes with less privilege than many other CA towns. There's visible poverty outside of the school and  issues that arise in a socioeconomically lower class community are present. Meanwhile, the opinion that the city is "dangerous" is very biased and largely stems on one's personal experiences and community growing up.

Thank you, this is really helpful! The cost alone makes me think I can't attend (I am not so sure about working schools...), but there are obviously some factors here that I need to consider!

thanks for all the useful info @BeachySpeechy and @jmk. i intend to live on campus as well so it sounds like it'll take an obscene amount of money to do this at UoP. ~140k for about 2 years. i think all the blood just rushed to my head.

Congrats on having options @plume =) the only other places i applied to were SJSU and Redlands so unless i get accepted to those APs and have choices, I will definitely be enrolling at UoP's 24mo term. I guess i might see you there!

Hi all-

i currently go to UOP and thought I'd chime in to this post. UOP's accelerated program is unlike any other program. The support from the facult as well as the other students is amazing. I'm thoroughly impressed with the program. If you want a small, supportive, collaborative and HANDS-ON program, uop is the way to go. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have. Although the price is somewhat of a "turn off" I can most definitely say you get what you pay for, and I wouldn't pick a program solely on price. Dig through the other programs websites and just make sure you choose a program that fits YOU.

Do you have any information regarding the loan reimbursement program? If you work for a school district in the area after graduation, how much do you get reimbursed? How long do you have to work at the district? Thanks!

Thank you so much for posting this! I assume you like the accelerated format? As a leveler, my understanding is that I would have two full semesters of prerequisites to complete and 15 months in the grad program... is that right? How is living in Stockton, specifically in terms of safety and clinical opportunities? Do you find there are more opportunities for one work setting over another (school vs. medical)? Can you choose where you do your final externship anywhere in the country?

I know I have way too many questions, but thank you for your help!!!

There are MANY opportunities for loan forgiveness. Specifically Stockton/Fairfield unified. I'm not sure on specifics, but they offer a good amount. A few people in my program have signed already

The cool thing about UoP is that everything is set up for you (internship, externship). You can be anywhere in California for your medical externship which is such a neat thing, so if you want to go to Southern California, you definitely can. Obviously Stockton isn't the coolest/safest place to live but some areas are actually very pleasant (by the water). I'll be honest and say that due to the rapid rate of the program, the location doesn't make much of a difference because we are very busy. Just be ready to work long days during the week :) I'm seriously so lucky to be in this program. I would recommend visiting the department if you have further questions

Most definitely! Are you leaning towards one school over the other?

I am leaning towards Emerson, but I am drawn to Cali because my family lives there. I think I am decided one day, and then something makes me second guess my decision! I guess it is a nice place to be in.

You're going to be so busy in grad school, so definitely look into the best program for you. Best of luck on your decision!
