Steph_slp Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 I'm looking into application deadlines for Florida grad programs in February of 2018, and NOVA popped up (taking the GRE in Dec). The main campus seems to be in Fort Lauderdale, with others in Orlando, Miami, etc. They don't require the GRE according to edfind, but they also receive upwards of 900 applicants each term!! Does anyone actually go here?! It's like this mystery school and I'm hoping to find any relevant info. Thanks for the help! FLSLP 1
SpeechGal1234 Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 Yes, this is a real school. I tried to apply but I didn't have my prereq's completed so they wouldn't even look at my application. I wanted to go there because they are doing some amazing work with AAC. Their program is VERY competitive. It is definitely worth emailing them and asking them more information!
Steph_slp Posted December 9, 2017 Author Posted December 9, 2017 Thanks for your help! I requested an appointment, and received an email back that the person who would be meeting me was not available. When I replied to reschedule, I got no response back. Bummer! I would keep trying but I live in CA. We'll see what happens, I am applying!

I'm applying to the distance program and wondering if I should even bother based on experiences like this that applicants have discussed. I'm anticipating them discarding my application due to nitpicking my prereqs. @Steph_slp It's definitely a real school haha, I'm originally from South Florida and am familiar with the Davie campus... my family still lives near Ft. Lauderdale so I guess on the off chance I do get in, attending orientation won't be an issue...
Steph_slp Posted December 12, 2017 Author Posted December 12, 2017 They seem to put a lot of weight on the personal essays, which makes sense since they don’t require GRE scores. If I were you @Rowboat47, I might just fork over some extra cash and meet with a writing specialist to create top notch letters. Even if they’re still nit-picky with the prereqs, those letters will serve you well for other programs anyway. Might as well give it a shot! Especially since you’re not too far from the school itself. Best of luck to you, and thanks for weighing in!
Rowboat47 Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Thanks, @Steph_slp! During this application process, it feels like I need all the luck I can get Steph_slp 1
futureslp17 Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 I heard their program is 3 years full time, does anyone know if this is true?
sbram94 Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 Does anyone else here do the distance program? I'm really interested in AAC but live in MD and can't go out of the state for personal reasons.

And that classes are offered a couple of nights per week, either in person, online or hybrid. I'm not 100%, but that is what I read on the site!
