  1. Psych is probably one of the few things getting me through the waiting. My co-workers ( who are also applying to grad school/law school so they should know better) 1. Don't worry you'll get in, its not like English is a competitive field like History. 2. Why are you applying to that school, its in the middle of nowhere don't you want to go somewhere cool like Miami? - I found the first one odd, because I've never had someone tell me English wasn't competitive but History is. I've heard that English isn't competitive but _____ hard science is.
  2. Thanks for the quick response.
  3. So this isn't completely program specific but I have a question. I know most programs will send out acceptances/rejections by April 15. If I get into a couple of schools I would really like to visit the campuses before I make a decision. How long do can I expect to have before I have to tell a school yes or no? Like if I don't hear back from all of my schools until April 15 and want to visit the two schools before I decide would that be possible? Do I have to inform schools of my decision by April 15?
  4. Oh man, this thread is totally what I'm thinking at the moment.
  5. I got so frustrated with their online app that I ended up sending in paper copies of everything. It was not good.
  6. Is anyone or has anyone applied to Kent State? Was there a space in the online app. to attach a writing statement/ personal statement etc? Or did you have to email those in? I got to the end of the online app and there was no space to upload anything. Online it says I can email that information in. Should I submit the online app and then email everything or should I email the information first? Thanks Brooke.
  7. I understand that, I'm just currently frustrated with cutting down my SOP. I can and will make it fit the word limit I just need to vent sometimes.
  8. Why do schools insist on 500 word or less statements! I cannot tell you everything you need to know in 500 words! Sorry needed to say that to someone.
  9. Perhaps someone can help out with an additional question. When is the best time to send thank you cards. My recs. will all be done in February but I may not find out anything for sure until May. How long should I wait to send at least the thank you note?
  10. Thanks for the tip and if I head that way you'll hear about it.
  11. I applied to UMD-CP this year. They said they received my official transcripts on the ASP form.
  12. Nice to meet another high school teacher wannabe! I'm sorry about the job situation though.
  13. I figured it was a joke since rules was in quotes. I'm not great at getting my return humor across though.
  14. Well I mean I'd post a message asking for advice about the school and hope proflorax replied.....
  15. Thanks! If I end up going there I will defiantly contact you.
  16. I don't mind. Its partly about career goals and a desire to not be in academia forever. However, as you said I could get sucked in. I really plan to teach at the high school level. I already have my teaching degree and want to increase my English lit. knowledge.
  17. I am applying to only MA programs. I do not intend to go on for a PhD. I have 14 schools on my list, which I think is a good amount most people I discuss graduate school with think it is excessive. I am applying to 1. Villanova 2. Maine 3. Wyoming 4. UConn 5. U of Maryland 6. Kent State 7. Louisville 8. U of Rochester 9. Syracuse 10. Loyola 11. San Francisco State 12 Kansas 13. St. Louis U. I tried to do a range of schools that went with my interests. This is my first time applying so we'll see how this goes, I do know that some of these will be completely unfunded but its an M.A. and that is pretty common. I know some of these schools do not offer funding for the MA. but I expected that.
  18. I'll add to the chorus. I have been working in an AmeriCorps program the last two years while I focused on grad school. My contract is up in July. I can't do this again, I suppose I could join the Peace Corps ( which is what most of my AmeriCorp coworkers are doing). I feel that if I don't get it I'll have stunted my progress in life while I get some dead end job for the next year so that I don't feel bad about leaving after the second round of grad school apps.
  19. Yes, Rochester wants uploaded official transcripts. However, I don't have any official transcripts. So my only option is to send them directly to the school. Thanks for the information about the director of graduate studies, that's a phone number I haven't tried.
  20. Does anyone have the mailing address for the University of Rochester. I need to have my undergraduate ins. send my transcript but I cannot find the correct ( transcript) address anywhere on the site and no one is answering or returning my calls. Should I send it to the general grad school office?
  21. I am panicing and I haven't turned in all my applications yet. I'm applying only to Masters programs but I've never felt so anxious about anything. I'm trying to quell the panic but its not working very well.
  22. What do I get as a thank you for the Professors who wrote my recommendation letters? I planned to do a handwritten note, but I want to include something else to thank them for their time and effort. My problem is that I do not live anyway near my undergrad institution, and will have to mail whatever I choose. Any suggestions?
  23. Has anyone applying to U of Maryland had trouble accessing their application ( after it was submitted)? I got the we received your app etc stuff but now when I try to check on status I cannot sign in. Anyone else having this problem?
  24. Oh another question ( if anyone is still checking this). For your heading what information are you including? Are you putting name, the school you are applying to, date?
