Macabry, Can I be nosy and ask you to let me know your impressions after the open house?

Is anyone going to visit during the weekend of April 13th?
-
I did. I'm in the process of doing more research into the program so I can try and figure out which offer to take. What are your initial impressions?

this school -vs. - that school!

Right now Im considering Syracuse and Villanova (M.A). Im waiting to hear on funding though, that could make all the difference -
i'm just applying to MAs. I'm waiting on about 9 schools to notify their MAs. I'm not feeling too badly about it because I have an acceptance but I really want answers. I'm tired of waiting to find out.

I put my Villanova acceptance on the board. I'm waiting to hear back about funding which should happen in mid-March. If I get funding I will probably attend.

Post-Acceptance Stress & Misc. Banter
BrookeSnow replied to TripWillis's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Quick, well hopefully quick question. I received an acceptance email. The email closes with the line that I can contact them with any questions. Are there specific questions I should ask? They cannot tell me about funding until March. If I don't have any questions should I respond to the email saying thank you for the acceptance? -

This is my exact inner dialogue about St. Louis U. "It was my first application! I revamped and revised everything after that app. So everyone else got something better etc" Nice to know I'm not alone on that. -
Wow...just decided what I will be reading tomorrow in between listening to high school seniors complain about how I need to help them come up with 3 essays and 3 recommendations by Feb. 15 so they can get into college ( today is the 12).

Fall 2013 English Lit Applicants
BrookeSnow replied to harvardlonghorn's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I heard from one school this week, now that I've gotten the first rejection out of the way I feel like I can hold on a little longer to hear back. But I'm itching to make plans and I can't make any plans until I know something for sure. -

This sums up the half of the reason I'm applying just to M.A. programs at the moment. -

Thanks this is awesome! To echo the others above I did allow myself a couple of dice rolls but the rejection still hurt. -

Got my first rejection letter today. I think my confidence just took a nosedive. -
I also help high school students apply for college. It amazes me how worried/not worried they are. Several kids are just like oh I'll go to this college, the college will accept me because I want to go there, what do you mean did I turn in an application?..... I swear I've had at least two conversations like this with seniors in the past week.

Fall 2013 English Lit Applicants

Okay question, I've mentioned this before but I have a person writing recommendations who seems to have skipped out on my last three recommendations. Two schools it is too late to do anything about but I have one final school where the application is not officially due until March 1st. Should I try to come up with another recommendation? I don't know who I would ask but I'm not confident the person who did my other recommendations will come through. -

Looking at the history of my schools notifications. March is the earliest I would find anything out. I can't wait that long. Im going slightly...okay very crazy. -

I'm freaking out about not hearing anything, but also one of the people writing my recommendations has disappeared without sending in the last three. Today is the deadline for two schools (M.A.) programs. The last school is due March 1st. I don't know what happened. She completed the recs for my other applications. I have called, left messages, emailed etc. I cant do anything else to get in contact with her. I'm hoping nothing has happened to her since thats all I can come up with for why she isn't responding at all. Im starting to think who can I ask for a last minute rec for the March school ( thats my top choice). Slowly going crazy. -
I got a gift card to a massage place for Christmas. If I get in somewhere Im going to get a massage. If I don't get in I'm going to get a massage.

Can I second the AmeriCorps recommendation? When I couldn't decide what to do with myself after undergrad I went into AmeriCorps. This is my second year and it has been great! Of course I can't use it for plan B now but I highly recommend it for everyone else. Especially since the contracts are only for a year, no feeling guilty about up and leaving at the end of it. (Note : not to imply that you should only do AmeriCorps because you don't know what to do with yourself. Its a great program whatever your reasons for joining). Um my plan B? Cry? I could substitute teach. That is what would probably happen, and I would have enough time to work on next years apps.
