  2. I appled to two schools in the US in October and February, and this month I should hear from them. I applied to a school in London which accepted me on Wednesday and I need to respond with my decision immediately, but I can't do that until I hear back from the other two schools. I'm getting anxious. Anyway, the London school is so efficient, and from the emails I received the faculty are really nice and knowledgable. I'm tempted to accept their offer... What should I do?
  3. Grad schools are looking at your cumulative GPA from your last semester, as well as your major, I believe. When I was at community college my GPA was a 2.7, but my last semester GPA at my transfer school was 3.1. I still got in.
  4. I would say yes, especially if the application is online. But there are some schools that will accepted mailed letters if for some reason your recommenders cannot upload their letters to your application. My stories are as follows: -I asked a professor if he could write me a letter, he said to meet with him in his office so I thought that was automatically a "yes." It turned out that all he wanted to do was tell me why I shouldn't go into the program, and that it was hard to get into. (A simple "no" with an explanation would have sufficed). -A few days after submitting my application I received an email from the department saying one of my letters was missing -For my latest application the same thing happened as above (second point) -One of my recommenders left me hanging, and didn't reply to any of my emails or tell me that she submitted it (thankfully she did)
  5. From what others have told me about participating in rallies and such on campus as grads, I wouldn't do it, whether the department favors it or not. It takes away from your studies. One guy became involved in events while he was doing his MA and as a result he stayed in his program 6 months longer than intended, so he lost his funding. Don't be like him!
  6. I'm 24, turning 25 while I'm in a MA program.
  7. Haven't heard from the two US schools I applied to, but I should be hearing back soon. I know for Northeastern I can expect to hear back next month.
  8. Oh my goodness, that's horrible!! Here's mine: Knowing that the professor you want to work with has his/her name spelled two different ways on the website and in his/her emails. Which one is correct?
  9. I'm definitely feeling it. Negative thoughts are starting to creep in and it's driving me crazy!
  10. I was scared to ask my letter writers for more letters, but they were more than happy to submit them. Take the jump and ask, nicely. A "sorry" goes a long way as well! As for getting rejected by grad schools, I did have to do that and it was not fun.
  11. It's tough. I, too, was rejected from my dream school and I cried about it...to my counselor. After a couple weeks I decided to call the department and ask why I was rejected. Once I found out that all I needed was more research I thought, 'That's it?' At least I knew that I had the grades to get in. But I realized that I didn't want to go into that program anymore, and that I was going into it for the wrong reasons. Now I'm waiting on decisions to three schools in a totally different program that is more my speed. Rejection is tough but you're not alone. Hang in there!
  12. "Here Comes the Sun"- The Beatles
  13. I applied to -Cal State Northridge -Northeastern -Kingston University
  14. Great pictures and video! I love 'em all! Here's my contribution, the scotty puppy pinwheel: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/vDa0z0gEvI4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  15. So, for one of my personal statements I said that I recieved a certificate in a certain subject, which was true. The only problem was that the certificate wasn't marked on my final transcripts when I requested them to be mailed. The certification came AFTER the application deadline passed so I can't do anything about it. Is that going to get me rejected? Am I gonna be seen as a liar? I have an image in my head that shows that admissions committees are scary people with no compassion. Sidenote: This waiting game is rough.
  16. I've taken four GRE practice tests and the scores have been in the 140 range, but I was wondering if these scores are an accurate prediction to what I'll actually receive on the real test. In case you were wondering, I took a ETS, Kaplan, and two Princeton ones.
