  1. Thanks! Didnt know I could, but will do.
  2. Anyone have the class offerings link? I couldnt find it!
  3. Thanks eveyrone! @tupacalypse - I think i would email to find the right person and then call.
  4. Although I was hopeful I wouldnt need to be in this position, but I was wondering how you guys may approach the topic of asking for more aid from the schools who've admitted you. Obviously, schools have a certain limit in terms of the funding they provide but with so many students turning down good packages for more lucrative ones elsewhere, I imagine schools anticipate such requests. Without sounding demanding or entitled, how would your broach the topic? Would it be appropriate to mention other offers for leverage? I have some great offers but having done the math, I may still be a little short. Would appreciate the advice!
  5. Add me to that list. really annoyed by the delay now!
  6. Sounds good. And skydiving sounds amazing! Have fun.
  7. I think he gets those responses because he's actively denigrating the IR degree and the professionals who are looking to get into it. Its natural to be a little defensive. As for the student body, I really think its what each person makes of it. Everyone will carve out a niche. Dealing with douchebags shouldnt be a major problem I think, because not only are most admits pretty smart, refined people and thus not dbags but also that they'll tend to migrate towards similar douchebags (if the program does indeed have any!). For me, I guess its just about being friendly to everyone and take it from there.
  8. Agreed, he's identified his inner loony and embraced it. I also think he perhaps was perhaps lacking the standard college experience, which I assume he is hoping to replicate in grad school instead.
  9. I'll be in Boston from Thursday the 4th through to the weekend. Definitely interested in arranging a get together.
  10. Speaking of housing, I know with the grad houses they offer RA positions, so essentially you live for free. I know a friend in the program this year who has this gig.
  11. Sounds good! I'll make a post sometime this week to see who else may be interested.
  12. Congrats to everyone with the good news! The wait continues for me
  13. Congrats! The long wait continues.
  14. I probably might start looking for a place soon. I heard its best to avoid agents in Boston as they're pretty notorious with charges so best to start soon. I might get a spreadsheet going on the Fletcher Facebook page to see who may be interested in finding roommates.
  15. Am I still the only one waiting? Still no update on the application page?
  16. I'd give them a call so they can't avoid the direct question. When I asked for details a while back, I initially tried via email but didnt really get an answer.
  17. Personally, there ought to be no contest between Elliott and Fletcher, if Fletcher provided aid and Elliott did not. Fletcher is a better school, has a stronger alumni base, a more diverse curriculum, a stronger sense of community and offers an alternative to DC internships with various opportunities within Boston, not to mention nearby New York. Elliott is no doubt a good school, but the only advantage it may have over Fletcher aside from the location is the stronger emphasis on Economics. For me that would have been a selling point, however you can definitely structure your degree/curriculum around Economics at Fletcher. Fletcher gives you the chance to focus your education, and I think if you want to make Econ a focus of your studies as I will, there are plenty of good, challenging courses to take. The difference really is just that at places like Elliott and SAIS, everyone takes rigorous Econ classes, and at Fletcher, fewer people do, but those who choose to, have the same opportunity to take rigorous courses; it's just not as common. I'm likely headed to Fletcher myself unless SIPA blows me away with an aid package (which isnt happening).
  18. This is tremendous. If ever a reason to attend grad school.
  19. I think the consensus is that at SIPA, you're a small fish in a big pond. The program is huge and the careers service, I'd imagine is stretched thin. Columbia, i gather, dont put enough emphasis into the program so its hardly surprising. The fact that they still have a reasonably solid reputation speaks to the quality of the faculty and curriculum. But as we all know, thats not the whole package one is looking for.
  20. Could you elaborate on that? I figured one of the main selling points of SAIS was their strong Econ program.
  21. Anyone still waiting (like me), apparently decisions could stretch out to the end of next week. Pretty ridiculous to be honest!
