  1. Decent - 157Q 165V. Not sure if I need to take it again, probably not enough time. I wanted to be considered for this fall.
  2. Quick note; Coursera have a course in Microeconomics (free for the course) but has an added benefit of being able to gain a verified certificate from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for $59. Seems like a bargain for those looking to meet the requirements for their programs. Course is available now! https://www.coursera.org/course/microecon
  3. Thanks for all the help guys! I've been steadily improving my practice scores with the last being 166Q so I'm reasonably relaxed about it now! Will update tomorrow after the test.
  4. As a general rule, I have a solid quant background but for some reason cant master the GRE. I know this is predicated on the whole application etc, but for someone with solid quant skills/background (economic theory, quant economics, micro and macro), would a 158Q suffice? Any current students want to chime in?
  5. Another two tests: 158Q and 164V, 153Q and 153V. Strange numbers I think.
  6. Thanks! I hope thats the case because my Manhattan scores have been bad (but not sure fatally bad!). Strange there's such a big disparity as usually there may be like a few points difference. I always hear points to relax and not fill your brain with more information the week of the test. Any recommendations?
  7. I have my test on Thursday. I've been a d.i.c.k with prep and the application cycle because of my job but I really hope the schools still consider it (I know) That aside, any tips from anyone for last minute type stuff? I've been working on all the Manhattan exams and been getting decent scores from the practice questions in the books (avg Easy - 17/20, Medium - 17/20 and Hard - 13/20) for Quant. I'm set for Verbal I think. One outlier though, I did the Powerprep tests and got 158Q and 164V. Whilst having done the Manhattan exams, I got 149Q and 168V so a little confused. Anyone with any insight as to which of their score correlated with the practices the best? Obliged, thanks!
  8. OP, do you know anything about the program? Did you apply/get admitted? I'm considering it. The website mentions a lot of good placements within the usual suspects but I'm concerned I havent heard much in the community about it. My manager at work had never heard of it! How does it compare to say a GWU or Stanford?
  9. Another practice test taken - got 156Q 165V. For places like SAIS, anyone with any insight?
  10. Thats the thing I guess! When I've completed the section, I always feel reasonable (I never tend to think I've completed all of them right or wrong). I think I am perhaps rushing through the questions too much, rather then properly ensuring my calculations are correct. I'm really stressing out because of this!
  11. Thanks, makes sense! What worked for you, in terms of knowing the concepts?
  12. I dont think i have that many questions to go through anymore!
  13. I have no idea why I cant replicate my success on the practice questions in the book. The concepts come nicely and everything is great. So frustrating that this wont work on the actual test. Perhaps I'm going through the test too quickly and sit back and take notice of the problems and what its asking me a little more? I guess I'll carry on studying but really worried this could screw my plans for grad school.
  14. Anyone with any suggestions?
  15. Yes, thanks. I have the two books and have been making my way through them. Generally, I think with the content fresh in my mind, I do well in them (16/17 out of 20 most of the time) so perhaps I will go through them once more. I think I'm missing questions throughout rather then isolated in a particular area. I've done the two Powerprep tests, scores were the first two written above. I still have 4 of the Manhattan tests to do still beforethe 24th. Have you taken the test? What worked for you?
  16. I think mostly I've struggled with Algebra and Inequalities. I've been knuckling down on that stuff but it doesnt seem to come to me come test time. I'm generally decent in the rest of the stuff. In terms of time, most of the time I finish about 5/6 mins before the end and review my answers, I make use of the review time a lot as well. I think I use the calculator a normal amount, only when necessary.
  17. I'm also quite interested about the school. They supposedly have some great placements into WB/Fed/IMF etc but I'm a little apprehensive because they are not in the official APSIA schools. Anyone lurking here know about the school?
  18. I have my test on the 24th and I am really struggling with the Quant aspect. I'm sure this has been posted tons of times before but really desperate here! So my last couple of practice tests have been 149Q 165V, 147Q, 168V and 152Q 166V. Verbal I'm quite confident in but I just dont see what I am doing wrong in Quant. I've gone through my tests quite closely and worked on the areas I was struggling in, however I've still remained below par. I've used Nova and Manhattan GRE for the prep, made copious notes on areas I'm struggling, gone through questions and the answers that I should have known but its showing no impact on my scores. What can I do? I'm applying for IDEV/IR programs.
  19. Right, thanks. But when I'm stipulated to waive my right of access to view the letter, wont my recommender know about that? And thus, feel I should have informed him that I shouldnt have seen it? I just dont want it to bite me in the ass.
  20. I'm sure this is done to death before so I'm sorry for being repetitive but my manager from my old job is writing my recommendation. We're discussing over email and I'm hoping to meet him next week again to discuss. I got an email today saying how he's made a start on my letter (strange as I hadnt sent him my resume or a SOP to refer too but at least he's efficient!) and will send me the copy to see what I think. Should I have told him that I should not see the letter or is there any advantage to seeing it? I'm applying to IR programs and this job was away from the industry, so perhaps its an advantage to see it and for me to tell him to augment certain things in my resume. I'm confused as to what to do.
  21. Just sent you an email!
  22. Oh OK. Great that you managed to get it done and dusted.
  23. Wow. Is it even worth it to have her letter when she couldnt be bothered to write it herself?
  24. Try khanacademy.org I'd be shocked if you dont find something on there
  25. That sucks. But I suppose if its been mentioned in your orientation, you pretty much have no choice.
