are we there yet? got a reaction from cszchung in Unexpected Second-Round Funding from SIPA = DILEMMA
If I could like this 1000x I would.

It is awful to think how selfish you are being right now.  What you have done in paying two deposits and simply going "in circles" is certainly not illegal, but it is unethical and defeats the good faith that all of these schools have put on you to weigh the pros/cons and make a decision in a timely manner.  You had plenty of time to make up your mind.  Just go to the "Waiting it out" section on this forum and read about the people who are still waiting to get into ONE school.  The longer you hold out means that one person on the Fletcher waitlist is going to miss out on his/her dream school and be forced to enroll elsewhere.  I understand that this is a major decision in your life, but it is rather disgusting to think that you might be one of my classmates at SIPA this fall because of what you are doing.

Am I being too harsh on some random on an internet forum? Yeah, probably. Am I going to get a bunch of negatives?  Maybe.  Just grow up a little and think about the bigger picture.

Damn, this is getting absurd. I think we are just arguing over each other.  One side that feels you should just take your time and the other saying that you are just asking for bad karma.  But hey that is life, right?  Just one question my roommate had a Tufts deadline of 4/19 and she got $ too. Did you really have until May 1?  Seems strange that there would that long a window.

As you know, I disagree with you how you have done it so far but we will be spending the next two years in NY with a couple hundred other overeager people (google group emails every 5 min are getting annoying lol) so we will have plenty of time to argue about ethical qualms and lots of IR issues in person. I'm thinking about EPD and Media Communications. What about you?

Lastly, I am more than happy to eat crow if you call the adcoms and explain your situation. I think you will be surprised by their reaction.  But if I'm wrong, I'll take two servings.  See you in the fall.

    hahahaha...it appears I've been caught red-handed.

I think I did, in fact, change my mind. I was apprehensive to share as I'm a little embarraassed by my indecision and I'm pretty sure everyone is probably as over this decision as I am.

I'm still not 100%...I paid both non-refundable deposits...but I'm heavily leaning SIPA. After I mentally committed to Fletcher a few weeks ago, I found that following through with it (i.e. telling SIPA's admissions office I wouldn't be attending) was really difficult. I was kind of bummed about my decision to turn down SIPA, and realized that, even if I loved Fletcher, I would probably always regret not taking a chance with SIPA. Or, at the very least, I'd spend a lot of time wondering "what if...?"

But Soaps is right...I can talk myself in circles on this and change my mind more often than I'd like to admit.

It's not the fact that "everyone is probably as over this decision" as you are that should make you feel embarrassed.

It's the fact that you're sitting on scholarship money at these institutions that could otherwise have really helped someone, or could have changed their decision.  Just like the "unexpected 2nd round funding from SIPA" changed your calculus.

And that's just selfish.  And shameful.  And sh+tty.

are we there yet? reacted to Tupacalypse in American unfunded vs. Seton Hall half-tuition
Whitehead has been really adamant about me attending there.  They even had the chair of the school who is a professor with a focus on Africa (my specialization) email me over the weekend.  At this point, I'm going to go ahead and make the decision to attend Whitehead.  If for some ridiculous reason American turns around later this week and offers me more money than Whitehead, that may change things.  But I'm about to call and inform them of my decision.

Thanks all who took the time to help!  You guys are great.

are we there yet? reacted to bilphilking in LBJ in admissions thread
@ MPPgal - relax. It's just a couple of knuckle heads that's still doesn't know how to play nice with others talking. LBJ is a very collegial environment, despite the immaturity of some of the students it admits. Hope you are not one of them.

@jtow & @whatwhatinthe you may think the anonymity of the Internet allows you to say anything you pls, but I wonder if you would say that directly to "the international guy" in person or the guy he was talking to then when you were being "annoyed"? I bet you it's because you might get come off as "not-so-nice" for saying stuff like that that you didn't, right? And what if the international guy is on this forum and he might know who you are? Opppps. Cat's out of the bag now...

For your information: I was the other guy the "international guy" was talking to and I thought he wasn't bad at all. If fact, I like the guy. I hope he comes to LBJ. I thought he was considerate and nice. We were chatting about this forum and glad to finally get to meet each other. And the info being put out wasn't going to end your world if you missed anything (was it?) Sure we were rude for talking during the presentation, I will give you that. For that I apologize for both of us. But did it turned you off that much to you had to bad mouth a future classmate on here? And how will that look to future applicants? And @whatwhatinthe let's not fool ourselves with your talk of selflessness in public policy pursuits. We are all selfish in one manner or another. Let's not use that to "attack" another person anonymously. I end with this thought: Everybody is held accountable for what they say in the public realm, so pls don't think you can hide behind this veil of anonymity.

I'm Allan Aw, MGPS in the Fall of 2013. You got a problem, then come discuss it with me (or whoever you got a problem with) and resolve it together. No need to be mean-spirited. Don't embarrass your school, or yourself. Be cool. We are here to support each other.
