  1. FIU is damn near paying for me to go there. Penn State is paying about half of my tuition. I'm in the New York City area, going for my MFA Studio/Visual Arts. Ideally, Miami would be where I would want to be since I have a lot of friends, family and connections down there, however, Penn State is a much better school (but its location is throwing me a bit off, coupled with the money I'm getting from FIU). Can you guys tell me anything about their MFA programs? Studio space? Etc.. Thanks in advance!
  2. Acceptance email from Penn State! Ahh!!!
  3. Acceptance email from Penn State! Ahhhjdsarjmbxuogew!!!!! And it's my birthday weekend, ah time to go celebrate!
  4. I just received my first rejection as well from East Carolina University. It was actually my last choice, but it still stings. Ah, at least I got that out of the way. Now it's time to go to the bar. Good luck everyone, hopefully we'll start receiving some good news soon!
  5. I feel your pain. I just received my first rejection as well from East Carolina University. It was actually my last choice, but it still stings. Ah, at least I got that out of the way. Now it's time to go to the bar. Good luck everyone, hopefully we'll start receiving some good news soon!
  6. All of my applications are in! I ended up not applying to Mass Art, University of North Texas, UNM and Arizona State. My final list: Penn State Columbia College Texas Tech University of Arizona Florida International University East Carolina University University of Houston University of Oregon I'm TEMPTED to apply to Rutgers or Montclair, their deadline is this Friday, but I would only apply to one, not both, if any at all. Any thoughts on their photography programs? I wanted to apply to a Cali school but all this talk about budget cuts makes me not want to bother. And a lot of their deadlines passed already. Ugh, I'm ridiculously anxious, scared, nervous and 3kojerklrjwlkj! I can't rememeber the last time I felt like this. Good luck to you all! We got this! Congratulations in advance!
  7. Very interesting. What about UM is so horrible, I keep hearing this over and over, yikes! I'm going to keep my eye on USF and UF. The Colorado program looks nice and the campus is BEAUTIFUL. Thanks for your help!
  8. Very helpful, as always. I have since eliminated both schools from my list. And as for Rutgers, I feel like I have enough reaches on my list at this point, so I'm not even going to bother. Thanks, again.
  9. Penn State, Pratt and University of Oregon applications have been sent. I'm so f*cking nervous, my God! Hoping for the best. I'll start sending the other applications in the next coming weeks. Does anyone know anything about University of Colorado: Boulder, University of Miami, FIU, University of Florida or University of South Florida? The reason I bring up all those FL schools is because my family is moving down there next year, so I'm looking into schools down there, but none of them are really catching my eye like that.
  10. Oh please share with us why. My distaste is slooowwly getting up there as well.
  11. Good morning everyone! Application season is upon us and that means eliminating some schools from our very (very) long lists! I'm trying to get as much information (selectivity, I don't care about how prestigious they are as long as they're GOOD and WORTH the money) as possible about the following schools: California College of Arts Pratt SVA ICP Bard Columbia College Mass Art My work is extremely urban, just something to consider. Oh and I'm looking to get my MFA in Studio/Visual Art (photography). What can you guys tell me about these schools? If you had to eliminate two or three from the list, which would you take out? These aren't the only schools I'm applying to, but I want to make sure I have at least a good 3 "art schools" on my list. Thanks in advance!
  12. Ah, thank you so much! Do you have any suggestions? Any other schools you think I should look into? I'm debating whether or not to apply to Rutgers and NYU since they're so close to me, but my God, impossible to get into doesn't even BEGIN to describe their admissions process! I've been talking to some of the staff at ECU, UH and UNM; they've been very helpful and encouraging. I'm still looking into FIU and UNLV; those are the only schools I'm still iffy about. Does anyone know anything about New Mexico State? North Texas? Thanks again guys and good luck everyone!
  13. Thank you for your suggestions. I will definitely be focusing more on my street work rather than portraits, no doubt about it. And I agree about the "vision" .. that's something I'm working on. I need to figure out what works together and use it to my advantage! Thanks again for the pointers!
  14. Thanks for responding to my post! Yeah, I fell in love with everything I've seen from ECU. Any suggestions on arranging the images? I do have a couple of art professors that will be going over my portfolio next week, so I'll feel better then, lol. Do you feel like, for the most part, the portfolio should consist of a similar theme (for example, street photography is my area, so should I focus on that instead of portraits and abstracts and etc...) of images, or have a little bit of everything? Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
  15. Hopeful MFA (Photography) fall '13 here! I'm finishing up my artist statements and finalizing my portfolio photos. Can you guys tell me ANYTHING you personally know about any of the following schools's MFA programs (admissions in particular)? I know that VCU, Mass Art and UNM are really tough to get into. I have a 2.8 GPA, (but a 3.6 in my photography minor and 3.3 in my major which was Public Relations... the 2.8 is cumulative, I failed math and bio courses ), 4+ photo internships, 3 gallery showings and a sh*tload of extracurriculars (do they even matter?). I guess I'm just vey stressed with this whole grad school thing, God bless you guys that are handling all of this so well! Montclair University Mass Art Penn State Columbia College University of Las Vegas Florida International University Texas Tech Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville Georgia State Unviversity University of New Mexico University of Houston Arizona State VCU East Carolina University
