Just the thought of taking $100,000 on loan kills me.

Offer holders, how do you make your final decision?
stillalivetui replied to aaiiee's topic in History
I'm really curious to hear his logic behind this. To me, this is like a baseball player not wanting a long-term contract and all the perks that come with it, namely, job security. -
Have any of you received a negative recommendation?

This is priceless. I would feel bad for the kid, but who does that? -

Hang tight. News can pop open at any moment's notice, even on Sundays!

Probably different between departments because my IU-B acceptance was nothing like that. -
How Long Should You Wait to Hear from Other Programs?
stillalivetui replied to Silent_Bobina's topic in Decisions, Decisions
What he said. I got accepted by my second choice with an assistantship and I'm getting more and more sold on the idea of attending there. I still have 3 more schools to hear from, but really it's all going to boil down if I also get accepted by my first choice and if they offer any incentives. This doesn't really sound like a factor for you since its your first choice and such. -
Wow, Princeton just mowed down today.
-
Still, I would take that as a good sign. You have a lot of options left, and all you need is just one acceptance!

Sh*t people say when you are applying to grad school
stillalivetui replied to Clou12's topic in Waiting it Out
I'm the first to attend and graduate college from my family, so my dear mother doesn't realize how difficult and selective this process is. When I got my first rejection she just casually stated: "Oh, so they actually look at the applications and deny people?" -
What does a graduate assistantship exactly entail? And is it typical for Masters students to receive these?
-
Congratulations to you too! Were you one of the lucky 10 that got accepted to the PhD program?
-
To those waiting; I was hopeless after getting a rejection as my first notification. After this I really felt like I wasn't qualified for any of the other programs, and that I was in over my head for even applying. This morning I received something unexpected; an acceptance from a better program with a graduate assistantship! So keep your heads up, good news will come your way soon enough.

Wow, I just got into Indiana!!!!! The weight off my shoulders feels so good!
-
This was me a week ago, and this is me now.
-
Damn it, this means there's no hope for me.
-
Any insights on how this effects MA applicants? Are they accepting less of those too?
-
I know it doesn't mean anything but my program description changed from "hist6" to "history," it's just strange. Hope I get some good news though, I really like their program.
-
For other Indiana applicants, what does it say for you under the "status" column on the online application?
-
From what I've heard, nothing, but to each his own. A lot of people I knew who went to school there always came out to Seattle on the weekends frequently, which is itself a scary hour drive through the pass. Personally, I wouldn't care if I was in graduate school study as I would be wholly committed to my program.
