  1. My first acceptance was the exact same offer as yours, right off the bat, I knew I was accepting it. I was extremely grateful and blessed because I thought I was going to have to take out another 25k in loans. TAKE THE MONEY
  2. So what's the proper procedure of notifying schools that you accepted an offer at another? I wasn't going to say anything, but I got my final acceptance today through snail mail, and coincidentally got an email from a POI instructing me to apply for a fellowship. It was a strange email, however, as he made it sound that I had already accepted their offer and will be attending there.
  3. All the more reason to celebrate your acceptance into Cornell.
  4. Not to mention all those schools you applied to are all incredibly competitive and difficult programs to get accepted to.
  5. That's strange they do that.
  6. Congrats! You'll love the UW and Seattle.
  7. Definitely interesting update. I thought the UW would rise a bit in the rankings, but apparently not.
  8. I just got my funding info, and I wanted to ask you experienced ones a question. My letter claims that my fee remission covers the cost of up to 12 credits. If I'm understanding this correctly, does this mean I don't have to pay anything for 12 credits? And are stipends given to you on a monthly date? I was going to ask my advisor but I didn't want to bombard him with questions regarding funding.
  9. Yeah I'm going into my MA program with a 4.0 or bust mentality if I want to give myself a good shot for PhD programs.

I've lived in the Central District for five years now (and I've also lived in Ballard and Wedgewood). I was referring to my current household to where I've lived two years in. I think I have a pretty good idea of what I'm talking about, and the reputation you have of this neighborhood. This isn't South Central LA, and trust me, I was born and raised there. So the Central District is nothing comparable to that. And I'm extremely confused about the subpar transit you're referring to. I find it pretty reliable to downtown and the U District, as it's a straight shoot with no transfers.
  11. Do I smell a future "2014 Applicants?" page brewing? Hang tight, my friend, we'll take care for all your needs so enough!
  12. Well guys looks like my decision has been made. Best of luck to all of you still deciding and waiting.

For those calling the Central District out: I understand the stigma you have against the neighborhood, but I still disapprove of the automatic "ghetto" attitude you guys put on it. I don't know if you've been here recently, but the Central District has improved and continues to. The housing (many of which were already beautiful old fashioned housing before) is being remodeled to contemporary standards or being rebuilt into modern styled town homes. I hate how you all just automatically point this out to be some sort of trash neighborhood that is not worthy of consideration. Queen Anne? U District? Please, I'd rather safe a buck and live here knowing I'm surrounded by a diverse community (not to mention take a 7 minute walk to the best bar scene on CAPITOL HILL). Gasp, I may live next to African-American's who "potentially" deal drugs. Get real and out of your comfort zone people. I live right by Ezell's Chicken, and I can say I have not experienced any single problem living in my household for the past two years. So, I don't know what area you are all referring to, but my experience here has been great. Just ask a band named the Cave Singers. Again, I am extremely disappointed in the attitudes of those quickly judging the CD. And I already know that just to boost your intellectual ego you'll pull up all these fancy statistics
  14. I'm curious, what ranking list, if any, did you guys use when it came to applying?
  15. I'm so glad I'm not the only experiencing this! The only reason my momma's top choice for me is the UW is because she'll still be somewhat close to me. I can't even explain to her that academics and such are really what matters.
  16. At IU, they only admitted 10 students for the PhD program as well.
  17. I wish the UW would just break my heart already. Anyone want to claim those UW admits for the sake of my curiosity?
  18. I feel like we're in the last leg of a marathon.
  19. Viggo, congrats on figuring out where you're attending!
  20. Yep, I did. Chances are I'm attending IU. As for Boston College, I know they started notifying PhD applicants in recent days, and MA applicants get notified late March.
  21. Stanford has a Terminal MA program? Who knew?
  22. Yeah, I just saw that. Congrats to whoever that was. The UW is a beautiful school and its a great program. Not to mention, Seattle is one of the best cities to live in.
  23. There were a couple of admits last week, so they may still be ongoing.
  24. I wish the UW would just send out their notifications already. I'm getting antsy and just want to know where I'm living for the next two years.
  25. I took a year off, and I'll say that it definitely put things in perspective for me academically and personally. It actually allowed me to put some deep thought into why I wanted to attend graduate school and what specific areas I want to devote myself to. A year ago, I had absolutely no clue.
