  1. I would vote for Yale just based on what I know about both schools, but like epsilon said, that hardly matters. Honestly, if money is in no way an issue, it really depends on how well your research matches. If you'd be better served going to Purdue, go there.
  2. I know my number one POI is incredibly busy, so I don't know that I'll get an answer from him, but I think if I don't have a response by next week, I may end up emailing him or my other POI.
  3. Now I really am losing my mind. Top of the wait list at my number one choice, and I'm my POI's favorite. But he doesn't get priority in picking students this year. So basically I have to hope and pray and dream and whatever that someone above me says no. Ugh.
  4. Update from UW: 3/5/13: Decisions have been going out steadily, with the majority happening this month. Please remember we have until April 15 to provide everyone with a response. Thank you for your continued patience.
  5. Working out, my thesis, school work, teaching, grading. There's a lot I could be doing instead of agonizing...
  6. I interviewed, got accepted same day over the phone. They sent the offer in writing about a week after. Always wait for the official statement in writing.
  7. I emailed the point of contact listed on their website for the graduate section of the department I'm applying to. If that makes sense.
  8. Second this, even though it'll drive you crazy.
  9. Not necessarily. Sometimes it's just really hard to cut the numbers down, and there's negotiations that have to happen over who gets what student which may have not been completed yet or interviews may have changed things up (more true in direct mentorship programs). When I applied the first time, I got an offer from the university I go now a few days after the interviews themselves. However, my friend waited like three weeks before getting an offer (different university), and he was a top pick. (I guess they could have been lying to him, but I'm not sure why they would.) Money being the issue that it is and administration being the way it can be, there are a lot of reasons there might be a delay. The waiting really sucks though.
  10. I'm not too worried about it, I just wish they'd send out notifications if they're extending offers. Like, waitlist or reject me or something. You know? But thanks for the info!
  11. "You interviewed there right? Oh, you'll definitely get in then!"
  12. Anyone heard anything from the Social Psychology programs for either of these schools? I emailed them late last week (haven't heard back, obviously) but I'm seeing other people requesting for information in the search results, so I thought I'd ask in a central location.
  13. You can always state in the email that the person suggested you contact the chair directly.
  14. I had backup plans before I was accepted somewhere. The difficulty will lay in what I'm going to do if I get another acceptance.
  15. No news is either good news or someone forgot to send out an email. I'd inquire.
  16. Last time I applied for graduate programs I had a school that didn't even contact me to tell me they'd rejected me. I called and the person asked for my name, and then they said, "Check your inbox." It was a PDF of the rejection letter. For that same school, my friend got both an email and a letter. As he put it, "It was like they really wanted to know I'd been rejected." It was his top choice, so I'm guessing he felt a little bitter about it. This time around, when applying for a PhD, one school didn't send out letters until like three weeks after they'd rejected me. I only found out I'd been rejected from them through checking the website after I saw on TGC that someone else had randomly checked the website and saw they'd been rejected. I also interviewed at a school three or four weeks ago and everyone was told they'd start letting people know two weeks after the interview... I know a friend who goes to a law school there and he said the administration there tends to take forever, so it's possible it's just a delay, but I wish we'd know that. I do recommend emailing/calling. I like to say, "I'm starting to hear back from other schools [if I have an offer I say I'm starting to get offers from other schools] and I'm still interested in your program, so I was just wondering if there's an estimated date for decisions." It tends to get a good response.
  17. I got this email too, but still got an interview. Turns out someone forgot to send in a letter of recommendation.
  18. Hm. Good to know. Thank you.
  19. School: Northwestern Area: Social Rationalization: I didn't ask for a letter from the person I should have asked. Word: Meh... School: Princeton Area: Social Rationalization: I'm not good enough. Word: Ouch...
  20. School: Purdue Program: Psychology Rationalization: Reports from current students state the POI I had chosen has circled the drain as far as sanity goes, so I'm really not that torn up about it. Word: Meh.
