  1. I agree with MarketMan. I have tons of student loans and this should be avoided if possible. If I were you, I would take the funded offer from UCD then transfer out if I really did not like it there. If you transfer out after your first year, you will have political science classes under your belt, which may or may not make you a more attractive candidate and you did not get into debt!
  2. MAPSS is not a bad program and it helps with getting into a good program, but in no way does it guarantee that it will land you a position in a top 20 program. I think it would be risky to turn down a fully funded offer for an MA. Plus, it seems BU is a good fit for you and it is a good program that provides good training.
  3. I don't think I can take this anymore. I can't seem to leave gradcafe/my email/ my computer/any electronic device and the minute I do I instantly think "I need to go check to see if anything has changed." I don't know what I am going to do once I don't have to keep checking my email... I am psychologically damaged.
  4. My pain should be over within 5-6 days. I got rejected off of one waitlist already and what made it terrible was that I was rejected after I sent a follow up email and the response provided by the DGS clearly demonstrated that people on the waitlist were forgotten about. If I hadn't sent that email, then I would still be waiting around. Very professional...
  5. I have not heard back yet and I am still in awe that some people who have had at least 7 weeks to make decisions are still undecided. I wish I had that luxury.
  6. I've entered the "I need something to help me sleep" stage. These notices that I keep on getting about my student loans going into repayment is not helping.
  7. Did your brother apply anywhere else? I am not familiar with the College of Europe in Belgium, but if he is interested in European integration, the UK and Germany have very good programs with great faculty that focus on this issue.

  9. I think sticking out is a good thing. Why would you want to be doing what everyone else is doing? Probably more relevant when it comes to publishing, but who cares if you are not doing American or using Methodology like everyone else? In my experience, the intense theory people were held in high regard because we thought they were smarter than us (and they usually were).
  10. I think I've already decided that I will not be making anymore contact. However, I just wanted to know what you all think as there is no guidebook on what to do when wait-listed. 1) I made contact immediately after being notified. 2) I made contact again last week and received the generic answer of "you will know when we know." 3) I am fairly sure that they already have us ranked and whatever happens is out of my hands (this is probably the hardest thing for me to swallow). Therefore, I don't think I should be contacting them again as I do not want to come off as annoying and desperate. Though I am not 100% sure if this is the right thing to do.
  11. I have a friend at BTS and she/he absolutely loves Tanja and she seems to co-publish with her students a lot.
  12. Starting Sunday night, I see myself drinking lots of wine and being on edge. Managing my stress will be impossible.

  15. I think the word "wait" needs to be deleted from the dictionary!
  16. I've been running, but will be picking up Pilates again. I went through the chocolate ice cream phase, but thankfully that was just temporary.
  17. Just got rejected from my top choice off of the waitlist, only one waitlist left.
  18. I feel sick thinking about April 15th, so much riding on that day.
  19. I don't see why it will hurt, but when you do so you need to demonstrate why you think you are a good fit with the program and don't restate anything that you already told them before. However, if you just send an email that says "I love you please accept me" (as much as all of us want to do this) don't do that.
  20. AWESOME news!! I wish I would receive an email like that in my inbox soon!
  21. CONGRATS!! 1) you will hear back from the school irrelevant if it is positive or negative news. 2) I contacted them immediately after receiving the notice (unless the email stressed to contact them under certain conditions) and then about a month after. I probably won't be contacting them anymore considering how close April 15th is. 3) It is hard to tell whether it is promising or not. I totally read into the emails I get from the schools that I am waitlisted at, but in reality they are VERY vague and polite.
  22. Not bad at all! I feel the same way. I keep on checking the political science forum hoping that someone will decline their offers.
  23. Every time I get an e-mail notification on my phone my heart jumps, but it ALWAYS ends up being something stupid like Groupon notifications.
  24. Sent my last emails to the schools that I've been waitlisted at. Now it is just intense waiting time. Good luck to everyone that is currently in purgatory!
