Funny, I got a similar score on my quantitative last year and am rewriting on January 6. I am also applying to audiology . I will be watching this thread in hopes that someone will have some suggestions. How have you been preparing? I have been using Magoosh and have been focusing almost exclusively on quantitative because I did pretty well on the verbal the first time. I will probably just brush up on my vocabulary.

Balance IS interesting. I used to have pretty serious balance issues as a side effect of when I got sick with meningitis when I was young. It caused my hearing loss and it took a lot of practice and patience before I regained my balance. I hope to study it further in school!

Thanks guys, I feel a lot better now. haha. I need to remember that I DO have a lot of non-academic experience, which would bring something to the field. I hope that we all get in this year! Where did you apply? I'm also applying to 7 schools. I wanted to make sure that I got in somewhere this year, as this is my second time applying. I applied to: UBC (in Canada), the University of Maryland-College Park, the University of Wisconsin Au.D. Consortium, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Northern Illinois University, Syracuse University, Pacific University and possibly A.T. Still University or Illinois State University. A.T. Still is a good program but is expensive with no funding.

pqo309-- Just out of curiousity, do you know if SLP or Audiology is more competitive? It seems like a lot more people apply to SLP but I think that Audiology stats are higher?
-
That's so strange! All of my recommenders have been more than happy to do multiple recommendations for me but there is no limit at my school as to how many they can send. Hopefully this year is my year or I will feel REALLY bad asking again! haha. I'm still currently applying (ugh) but I at least have most of my applications done. I'm hoping to have them sent by the end of this month.

Funding for SLP/Au.D. Programs
DeafAudi replied to DeafAudi's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
OK, thanks for your reply! I considered applying to Nebraska-Lincoln but decided not to in the end. Hopefully the other schools do the same. -
Ugh, I am getting so stressed out about my applications. My GPA is not up to par at all and I'm so intimidated by the stats of the programs I am applying to! I took care to apply to programs that had high acceptance rates, though. Originally I meant to apply only to lower ranked programs but some of these are even more competitive! I hope that my personal (I'm a bilateral CI user), research, and volunteer experience will help overshadow my GPA. JoeyBoy718, I hope you get into UW! Your stats in your signature look excellent. Good luck on your GRE on January 5, I'm retaking mine on January 6. I was lucky that the programs I am applying to are willing to accept a later GRE score.

I'm sure that this is a question that has been asked many times but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. While I was doing my research on ASHA, I found that sometimes the number of people who were offered funding were more than the number of people who actually accepted. Does this mean that as people decline their offer (with funding), the offer goes to someone else on the list and essentially everyone who ends up accepting end up being funded? Or does the money just go back to the school or to people who are on the wait list? I'm quite concerned about funding because I am an international applicant and will not qualify for in-state tuition anywhere. Thanks!

That's so funny! Hey, on the bright side, it means less competition for our chosen programs, right?!?! haha. I see that you are also applying to Syracuse. It's one of my top choices and I'm working on my application at the moment...
-
Maybe not, but I think the SLPs were probably getting annoyed with us hijacking their forum!
-
Thank you, that is good to know! Also, do you know which programs are more likely to offer funding? Sometimes it's hard to find this information on the websites and I don't know if I should trust ASHA EdFind. I've heard that sometimes the newer programs are partial towards international applicants...

Does anyone know how "competitive" the following programs are? I have a lower GPA so I am concerned about that. I'd like to apply to: San Diego State University, James Madison, Syracuse, and Salus University. Thanks!

ETA: Irrelevant post.

Hi Asemoooooo, I'm not sure where you heard that from but for Audiology (at UBC) I was told that all of my prerequisites do NOT have to be B+ and above. I inquired about my physics and neuroanatomy grades and was told that they are willing to over look "harder" classes, even in a C range. Of course, B+ and above would be great and are preferred! ETA: Sorry, I misread and didn't realize that you were talking about U of T.

You're retaking the GRE in 3 weeks too? Me too! But...I am just starting studying now . I was insanely busy this semester and just wrote my last final today. I am also hoping to have most of my application done by the end of December! This is my second time applying so I already have a solid letter of intent to work with. It's nice finding someone who is sort of in the same boat .
-
That's really good that you know exactly which field you want to work in! I know that I want to end up in a CI clinic so I need to research schools that focus in that or at least would be able to offer me that experience. Did you address your specific interests in your letter of intent? I know what you mean about the rankings--I am also considering applying to A.T. Still University, which is very low ranked, but is supposed to be a great program. The higher ranked programs also seem to be more competitive, so I would rather avoid that. Good luck on your applications! I hope to have a solid list of schools by the end of the weekend.
-
I do agree with you--had I been more organized, I would have been more than happy with an earlier deadline. And YES about the GRE thing! It's so expensive to send it afterwards . I'm curious what influenced your choice in programs? I'm from Canada so I don't really know where I want to live. It's been hard for me to narrow down my list, and it is ever changing! The only programs I am sure about are Pacific University, Syracuse, and San Diego State University. Although Pacific is low rated, it is an accelerated 3 year program, which is very appealing to me. Any advice would be much appreciated!
-
That's great! I'm lucky that most of my deadlines are February 1st because like I said, I have to retake the GRE. I do have one deadline on Jan 10 but that school is willing to accept a late score. Is this your first time applying? By the way, I wonder when anyone else will join us here? I'm thinking likely after the application deadlines when there is nothing to do but wait.
-
Thank you, I do appreciate your encouragement! It's easy to become discouraged when reading the numbers. I have remain committed, and hope that my being a bilateral CI user will also help make me more interesting. So, have you begun your applications yet? I am lucky that I have a LOI from last year that I can work with and I don't have to start from scratch. I, like everyone else, certainly have enough on my plate!

144 V, 4.0 AW - anyone else with similar scores?
DeafAudi replied to C_Chattra's topic in GRE/GMAT/etc
Sigh, I got an even lower V score than you. I will be rewriting the GRE in early January, just in time (hopefully) for my applications. I have contacted some of the schools and they will allow a late unofficial score. I guess this means I will be studying over Christmas! -
Oh, I know. I am still researching schools so I have not quite narrowed it down yet. I think I will end up applying to 4-5 schools plus UBC. I'm concerned about my options because my GPA is really quite low, 3.09, 3.2 subcumulative. I did get on the wait list last year at UBC during a competitive year, so I hope that this will be my year. I do have a lot of personal, research ,and volunteer experience. Do you know how American schools view that?
-
Cool! Most of those schools would be reaches for me, so I am looking at applying to lower/mid ranked programs. I am looking at Syracuse, San Diego State University, Salus University, NOVA Southeastern, Auburn University, A.T. Still University, Bloomsburg University, and Pacific University! I need to rewrite my GRE in mid January so I will only be applying to schools that are willing to take late scores. I really wish I had started this process sooner but now I can only work hard to get it done.
-
Hi! FINALLY there is an audiology forum, lol. I'm applying for next fall, for the second time. I'll be applying to UBC (in Canada) and a few American schools. I only decided to apply to the American schools fairly last minute so it will be a rush for me. You?

Out of field applicants
DeafAudi replied to virginiarunninggirl's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Hi, I would be very interested in this. I am also an out of field applicant (BA in Psychology). I will be applying to the Au.D. program for the first time. Private message me if you would like! -
Speech Pathology Master - NO GRE
DeafAudi replied to rlreid's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
If anyone knows any Au.D. programs that don't require the GRE, that would be great! I did look at the schools that NCAR823 posted but many don't offer the Au.D.
