Hi, I'm currently in the UBC program (will be done after our comprehensive exams next week, yay!) and I was also once on the wait list. Last year, the deadline to accept was April 7 and the payment was due the following week. So, it is likely that all 12 people have paid their deposits. That said, do not lose hope. One of my classmates was accepted in late July because someone dropped out. Good luck and feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Be careful. I also thought it was easier getting into American programs because Canada is very GPA focussed and there are so few schools here, but that wasn't the case at all. I ended up getting into a Canadian school and was accepted to only one American school (wait listed at 3/8). Granted, I did apply for the Au.D. which is a different program and probably has different standards but I think a large part of it was because I was applying internationally. It is much more competitive applying as an international student than as a resident, as you are also competing with other international students for even more limited spots. My advice to you would be to look at programs that accept applicants in your GPA/GRE range and then message each of those programs specifically asking how many international students they accept and if they have a quota. Have you looked into Minot University or Maine University? I have heard that these two programs accept a lot of Canadians for SLP. There is also Pacific University, although it is a private university. Also, if you are willing to pay the international tuition, you should look into Australian schools. This website :http://www.oztrekk.com is fantastic and the rehabilitation sciences represenatives are very helpful. I actually applied to and was accepted to one with a similar GPA as you. The only thing is that they are on a different school system than we are so you can't apply to both American/Canadian and Australian schools. Just an idea! It sounds like your sGPA is good so I think you definitely have a chance at American programs. Good luck! GRE scores for Canadian Universities

I'm pretty sure that most Canadian universities, like American universities, strongly prefer to see GRE scores in at least the 50th percentile. I have also heard that Dal reserves most of their spots for their own students. Not sure about UofA. -

I wore a nice sundress with flats and a cardigan. I think something like this or dress slacks would be nice. I second the previous suggestions to wear something you feel comfortable in and bring a small notebook and pen. Good luck!

Hi there! I applied to the Canadian Audiology programs but contacted the admissions secretary at UofA when I was applying because the programs have similar admissions requirements and I'm local so it was easy to visit. I was told that usually they accept people with at least a 3.6 GPA, and preferably higher for the last 60 credits. They also will consider any volunteer and research experience you have done. I can't remember the average GRE score but typically schools like to see scores in at least the 50th percentile on all sections. That's all I know for this particular school, but I can tell you that the Canadian programs seem to put even more emphasis on GPA than even the US so make sure you apply to as many schools as you can! I suggest you contact the admissions secretary (I forget her name, sorry) because I remember she was very helpful. Good luck!

I feel the exact same way! I'm definitely still experiencing a touch of impostor syndrome. I'm also afraid that I will forget what it's like to be in school because I've been out of school for 3 years... That said, I'm SO excited to quit my job and start a new chapter in my life. I've already befriended and gotten to know a few classmates on Facebook, and they seem like really cool people. My roommate has also been in our apartment for a week and it sounds amazing. I can't wait to join her there in 5 weeks. It'll seem like an eternity! What has everyone done to prepare? I've been shopping for back to school clothes with my money that I should be saving (lol) and trying to decide on which bank I want to switch to because I currently belong to a provincial bank and I'm moving out of province. Other than that, I've been trying to fill my weekends with outings with family and friends and relaxation! -

Nothing is more frustrating than shopping for glasses when you have the facial measurements of a child and a -7 prescription (yeah, I'm blind as well as deaf). Seriously considering using my student loans to get LASIK.

Haha! If it weren't for modern technology, I might as well BE Helen Keller. Good news, I looked online and the frames I got do come in a smaller size so I think I will try those first before abandoning my eyeglasses search. As for dry and irritated eyes, my eyes are like that anyway from wearing contacts 24/7!

Patont, do you have the information for the RBC professional student line of credit program? I was looking at their website the other day and didn't see SLP or Audiology ("The Royal Credit Line for Students – Professional Designation is available to students who are pursuing select degrees that include: optometry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, podiatry, nursing, chiropractic, law, engineering, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, MBA/EMBA and accountancy"). I know that Scotiabank does offer it for Audiology though .

Hi! Another Canadian who applied to Australian programs here. I applied through Oztrekk to the University of Queensland and was accepted, although I ultimately turned it down to wait for the Canadian/American schools application cycle, as the Australian term commences in February instead of September. They were prompt in answering my questions and knowledgeable of the admissions process at each of the schools so I strongly suggest you contact them . The rehabilitation sciences admissions officer, Shannon Tilston is AMAZING. I can tell you that UQ does look at applications with a 65% GPA and higher and Macquarie and Melbourne are a bit more competitive. She told me that she felt I was competitive with my 3.1 GPA at UQ and she was right. Another thing to consider (I'm sure you've already researched this but I thought I would point it out in case) is that the tuition is insanely expensive and there are not many Canadian to Australian scholarships . In addition, I don't think any of the Canadian banks yet consider SLP to be a professional program so you likely won't qualify for a professional student line of credit (which usually means more money!). I think the regular student line of credit is usually capped at 10-15K a year. Their requirements are also slightly different. For example for Audiology, I was told in my offer letter that UQ only provides 250 clinical hours and I would have to make up the additional 100 hours to meet CASLPA requirements in Canada. I'm not sure if it is the same for SLP, but be aware that you may have to do some extra work in order to practice in Canada. Or maybe you will end up staying in Australia! Haha. GOSH, yes! I'm so, so nervous. I have been out of school for 3 years already, I hope I haven't forgotten everything! My Focus will likely be cochlear implants, maybe cochlear implants and music perception. My Dream would be to work in a CI clinic, hopefully in BC. I don't really want to return to my home province (although the money is great there)! One day, maybe I will return and complete the Au.D. online and move to the US .
