Haha, I completely understand! Sometimes I still expect the school to be like, "oops, we made a mistake!" . I've paid the deposit and received my official graduate school acceptance, so I know I just need to relax!
Congrats on your acceptance to UofA! I'm not in SLP but I know people in the program and they have nothing but great things to say .
I don't think all schools require a deposit but I would call just in case. Trust me, they deal with these questions all the time!
UTDallas sounds like an amazing choice! I'm of the mindset that cheaper>prestige, especially in this field. It's not like UTDallas is lacking in prestige, either . Good luck in your decision!
This is so odd to me! From where I'm from, nearly every place allows cats. It's when you have a dog that it becomes more difficult. I'm very happy to be moving to an extremely dog friendly city.
@awfulpetowner (you are not!), I second the recommendation of finding a roommate. Good luck .
I agree, I applied to the same school three times, was wait listed the second time, and accepted the third time. I second kimmibean's recommendation to improve your application before reapplying. The way I see it is that we obviously REALLY want to be there if we are going through the trouble of reapplying and working on our c.v. Good luck!
I third(?) PsycD and CaraL on getting research experience in psychology labs. I was fortunate enough to be involved in two separate psychology research projects that turned into CI research! Asemooooooo, I was not in school for either one. I approached professors who I know were doing research I was interested in and both were more than happy to have me. I even ended up getting a grant and a stipend for the other. It's free work, after all. Good luck!
Congratulations to everyone who got in! To those who did not, it's ok. Just keep trying because I know you will make an awesome Audiologist/SLP this year or next year or the next. This was my third time applying and I know many others have applied several times. You can do it!
That's how I felt, although I secretly wanted to go to UBC (it's the only Canadian school I applied to)! It's my third year applying, which makes it feel extra special . I'm from Edmonton, Alberta so it's not too bad. How about you? I saw that you're waiting on the U of A--that's a great program! Although not as beautiful as Halifax .
That's exactly how I felt about my 5 rejections after I got into UBC, lol. Are you decided on Dal? Congrats! I am very excited for UBC but a bit nervous to move!
Exciting! I applied to Western last year and was not accepted. I couldn't remember which night it was...it's weird that it's on April Fools though, lol.
You should post this in the Canadian 2014 SLP thread--it's much more active there and the people are friendly.
I don't know much about SLP as I'm in Audiology but your stats and experience sound good . Canadian programs LOVE research experience! My recommendation for the GRE is to use Magoosh.
I was surprised how hard it was getting into an American school as a Canadian! I got into my top choice Canadian school that I thought I didn't have a chance at and rejected from American programs that were ranked much lower.
Good luck in the fall! I was accepted to Bloomsburg for Audiology but will not be attending as I was accepted to a Canadian school (I'm Canadian). They seem like an awesome school and I was really impressed with Dr. Gonzalez when he interviewed me. I would have loved to attend and feel bad about declining. I guess we can only choose one! Enjoy!
