Just got my letter. I am out.
-
I just got waitlisted
-
That's too bad Mine probably is too. Are you now applying to the MSW? Or had you already?
-
I was looking at the stats http://gradschool.uoregon.edu/?page=gradProgramInfo#CASSociology Does this mean they accept 17? Because that could take a while, right??
-
You are both applying for Sociology PhD programs? That is exciting and nerve wracking! Are you applying to the same programs?
-
hm, i wonder if that means the rest of us are out.
-
You really do have a great attitude! You have taken all these comments so positively! Have you looked into schools that don't require the GRE? Are there any out there for your program?
-
Me! I am on the wait list at UW with you too!
-
Nothing over here yet either
-
I definitely think that theory is alive and treated as a division of sociology. I was going to say subfield, but that doesn't make sense since it underlies all of it. I am not doing ASA, but I am doing PSA. Anyone else?
-
My interests are religion, gender, and labor. All seen through the lens of class.

On the other side of the coin: No!! It can't be almost March! The article that I was supposed to be working on all during the month of Feb is due at the beginning of March! Curse you short month!
-
Great article! Funny too because I am writing an article citing Wills and took a break to come here and saw this piece. I was reading a debate about whether to continue to fund these programs in the current economic climate. It is a tough thing. I am usually all for prisoner's rights, but when people on the outside are denied a college education because of budget cuts??? Although I am not sure that the funding source is the same.
-
Wow, that is a tough one. The grades are 20 years old, though? I think you have proven your dedication since then! When do you expect to hear back? I have no insight one way or the other!
-
That is great news! Congrats!
-
seadub: It seems that SOM did indeed apply AND get in to Duke. And if you have applied and gotten into top programs, congrats. However, that does not mean you are an expert on what schools are looking for.

I currently go to an alternative college that hinges on democratic learning. Students never call faculty by anything but their first names. So take that and add to it that fact that I am 20 years out from ever referring to anyone as Mr. or Mrs., and I must say the formal address is catching me off guard!
-
That is good. I am thinking of doing that tomorrow, and also asking if I can come for a visit. Did you hear back?
-
So I was feeling fine about where I was going, and then I got a wait list decision at the only school I would consider over Iowa. So what do I do now? They said they will make their decision by the end of April. But of course I need to make my decision by mid April. Any advice?
-
Hey! I am in Washington state and got a wait list letter today!
-
Sometimes it is the luck of the draw. Look at folks that get accepted to a top-ranked school but not a mid-ranked school. Have you made contact with professors at your schools of interest?

I AM going straight from undergrad to grad, but I took 15 years off between high school and undergrad! In the interim, I worked in retail and then was a sahm. I hate the years of earning potential that are now gone, and the idea of starting a career in my 40s. On the positive side, people routinely assume I am "college age" so maybe that will help me in the job market. I feel like I missed out on the undergraduate experience that I see so many of my classmates indulging in. At the same time, it feels kind of weird to hang out with them sometimes, because I am so much older. I do have friends, but I don't go out drinking with them! But, on the bright side, I can give you a bit of hope. I came to undergrad with barely any memory of what school looked like, and I have routinely been at the top of my class. Classmates look to me as the smart adn organized one who knows what is going on. I have been able to keep up with the information and coursework, with three kids and a husband in school, and all that life has dealt us, and I have thrived. I have enjoyed it so much that I opted to do a 5th year of undergrad and go on to grad school!

Yep it could be because of your Q score. OR it could be because you are in one of the most competitive fields out there and it often takes years of application rounds to get accepted somewhere. But that leaves you lots of time to get that shoe tying down! Maybe you will even have shirt buttoning tackled. LOL!!
-
That's right. MM needs to let that dream die and move back home and work on shoe tying and other basic life skills. sheesh

Knowing, that is what it is called. I don't think I have seen many. Raising Arizona was brilliant, I didn't really need anything else
