So I ended up being accepted in UChicago and Berkeley. No rejections yet. Is going to be a really hard choice now.

Thank you! Yes, that and I am still considered as an international student. Most of the top Biophysics programs use NIH training grants to cover funding for students, which are limited to citizens and residents. I cannot complain as the selection of international students are a privilege.  Hopefully, I get my Greencard by the next cycle. My lawyer told me that I have enough citations to file. Most probably, I would see you guys at future Biophysical Society meetings!

Just heard back from MIT for physical chemistry. They sent the email at midnight, lol. I have not idea why.
Well, that's it for me. My graduate admissions are all done. I wanted to thank everyone in this thread for helping me preserve my sanity while waiting for all the admissions! I wish all of you luck and am confident everyone will have amazing schools to attend. ♥️

Okay, This is it. It's February.
We're all going to be hearing back a lot in the next few weeks.
Don't give up. We're so close. I hope that you all receive good news!!
Good luck everyone! I hope that you get into your dream school!

I'm sorry man. I think your experience is far greater than the rest of ours. Could the reason be because you applied late?

Thank you!. Good luck with the interviews. I have not heard back from anyone yet.
    I applied for
Berkeley: Biophysics U of Chicago: Biophysical Sciences John Hopkins: Molecular Biophysics  Rochester: Biophysics  Duke: Biochemistry U of W at Madison: Biophysics  I applied late for all the programs as I had to deal with some other issues first
I have previously mastered out from my PhD (Chemistry) at a public Ivy as I got sick.
MA GPA:3.5 (did not attend classes as I was quarantined for a semester and just took exams as I cannot withdraw without paying back tuition as an international student)
GRE Chemistry 880 (95%) 2013 but could not do the test again as ETS canceled the most recent test dates ( From April to Oct)
    GRE General Q 167 V 163  (2020)
    TOEFL iBT 119 out of 120 (2021)
18 presentations ( 6 oral and 12 posters ) and counting at BPS, ACS, ASBMB, and other international conferences
    Coauthor of two papers (middle)
One first author review in preparation
Four co-author papers are in preparation
16 published abstracts and six submitted ( ~10 citations at google scholar)
11 years of research experience (physical organic, bioanalytical, biophysics) & ~ one year at a big biotech company (diagnostics)
In 2020, I got one poster award, one young investigator award, a few travel awards, Sigma Xi membership
4 LORs ( current PI, one member from the previous dissertation committee, one is a supervisor at the biotech company, one very famous peptide chemist (a Regents Professor))

I was doing analytical chemistry research and now applying for labs doing  biophysics/physical/chemical biology. I like interdisciplinary work. I do not think your track plays a big role. However, you have to convince them that you would not do the same again. There is this baggage.

Hi all, I'm probably not the only person in this boat so I wanted to share this to hopefully put some minds to ease.
I was asked to leave with a masters degree in my last PhD program in chemistry (against my PI's wishes, no less). Applying this current cycle I was of course worried that no other department would want to take me knowing this. But I just want to make it known that I got an accepted to another chemistry PhD program today. If you haven't heard back from your schools yet, I'm sorry and just want to acknowledge that I know how horrible that feels. However, I hope it gives you hope to know that there are opportunities out there!

Hi there! I applied to all of the same programs (organic) besides Rice. From following the results page, I think Caltech has finished their admissions process. I already heard back from Yale, Columbia, and UW-Madison. In the results section, a current Yale student said that the department will be sending a few more acceptances. I also saw on reddit that Columbia might be sending out a few more acceptances. I have no information on where UW-Madison is in their admissions process. I think Stanford has started to send some informal acceptances (based on the results page). No word from MIT.

If you could tell us which programs, that might help!
I think a lot of universities have finished with admissions, but a lot haven't even started. For example, in this thread you will have seen that some programs are releasing results until February and that big schools like MIT and Stanford haven't released any admissions results yet either.

I have to wonder how much the process can actually be quantified by "stats" this year. I've always thought the personal statement and letters of recommendation were most important; GPAs can only really be judged in the context of your own institution and many schools did not require the GRE this year - I didn't submit any scores at all. Number of publications and presentations can also mean different things depending on the research you're involved in and the quality of those pubs/posters. I don't see how comparing "stats" could really give any useful information, but more power to you.

Just to help someone out there, as an international student I got accepted into UW-Madison, Uni Pittsburgh, OSU. Still expecting decisions from a couple of very top schools. I had my master's degree in an HBCU college and have at least 3 years research experiences. But in all, God is involved. I hope you will hear good news soon. Good luck!

Possibly useful update for international students: got a call from POI at Northwestern to let me know I was accepted. I applied for physical/biophysical and inorganic/bioinorganic

@frozonecomFinished up my caltech interview! It ran at like exactly 10-12 minutes and was very basic. ie Tell me about your research, why caltech etc. Two interviewers who were super friendly. I feel like it went well. We'll see what comes next!

I am a returning international student ( previously got into a Ph.D. program but mastered out due to health) and have a bit of experience dealing with admission. Generally, all the Ph.D. students get guaranteed funding for 5 years. This would typically cover stipend, tuition, and health insurance. However, if your PI does not have the funds to support you, you have to work as a TA. Also, you would not be eligible for most of the awards.
