For those who applied to UNC- I just heard from the secretary that they are still reviewing some applications. All is not lost.

That's too bad! Based on the past results I anticipated the decisions being sent out this week.

Congrats! As far as I know, Madison does not offer many traditional funding packages. Most students are sort of left to fend for themselves. You need to click on the link in your email under the paragraph that starts with something like "I am sure that funding your education is a concern.." and read the info. I suppose they expect the admitted students to contact professors individually and negotiate. Wow. I didn't know they interviewed. When is it? I have one with Emory this week. I will be sure to get back to you with some tips.. I am also a bit nervous and really excited at the same time. Luckily, I already have one letter, so I have resolved to have fun and make it a good learning experience. Enjoy the ride on their dime:)

Give it a couple of days. I got really sad when I heard nothing from Wisc when everybody else did, only to find out later that I had a different funding situation, so I was notified during the second wave. Until you get an actual rejection, keep the hope alive!

Me neither:( But I wasn't too hopeful about this one. Who is the lucky one?

Everyone's congratulating me because I was being such a baby yesterday! I read your blog entry and loved it. I was thinking being able to see when other people got in made the whole process harder. Especially when I thought that all the wisconsin acceptances were sent out yesterday. I was considering about getting off gradcafe completely on account of the stress. (It's extra stressful for me because I would have to leave the country if I didn't get in anywhere.) Now I am no longer troubled.. The choice is up to you. Do you want to stay informed of people's successes in real time and risk shedding some unnecessary tears or do you want to hide in a cave and see who comes knocking.

Thanks guys. I was down and now I am up. What a crazy game. It's certainly one of my top choices.

I thought I wasn't in Wisconsin for sure, but I just received an email that I have five years of guaranteed support and I have been nominated for a fellowship. The happiness still hasn't set in. I still can't believe it.

Congratulations! That's a great success! I wish for a call very much, but I can see a million reasons why I would not get one. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.

I just saw an admit to UNC on the results board. I applied too and that is making me more obsessive. Ugh.

Just couple of minutes ago I got an email from Brown with a subject "Brown Graduate Admission". I swear my heart stopped for a second. Yet, they are only thanking me for my application. How kind and polite of them!!! This is seriously impacting my blood pressure.

Now you are gonna keep all of us guessing?? I call that evil

Any news from anybody? The deadly silence is making me pretty nervous.

I want to share with my friends what I am doing next year, but I don't want to boast about going to a phd program. I've resolved to get around it by simply posting something like "Astronautka is moving to San Francisco!" Those, with whom I shared the details of my application, will know what it means. I don't care about the rest. (Of course, all this assuming that I will get in somewhere:))

8 days ago.. You are pretty lucky. My deadlines were all in early December. I have been obsessing since then.

My BA is in sociology/anthropology. I went to a small school and we had a joint department. To tell the truth, I have taken only one sociology class in my entire college career because the anthropologists are overrepresented. But I guess I have a degree in sociology.

I applied as well. No word so far.

I've had professors tell me that I should only apply to the very top because I would stay an adjunct till the rest of my life otherwise. I don't know if that is true, but I am definitely only shooting high. Might as well since it's so dang expensive. Maybe he was just trying to figure out whether it would deter you. Kind of like the guy who wrote the article.
