What you wish you knew.....

fuzzylogician, I see you posted this past posting. However, I think chopper42 is looking for answers that are SLP oriented. The posting you referenced are answers from all areas of study. -
SLP Masters: Do I have a chance?
Arcanelady27 replied to gronkow2's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
You experience is great. You are majoring in Speech and Hearing Sciences correct? Every school has a different set of prerequisite courses they want completed. Some ask for only five courses while others may ask for eight or nine. You major GPA is ok, but I was told competitive for this major is 3.5 and above. However, you could compensate that with great GRE scores. You did good for someone who did not study. I studied and still got lower than your quantitative score (145)! I would suggest going on www.asha.org and look at their edfind section. This gives you an idea of what GPA's and GRE scores accepted applicants had for admission into programs throughout the United States. It is broken down by state. -
I received my official scores. Verbal 146 Quant 145 AW 4.0 I know my verbal and quant scores are not impressive. However, how emphasis is really placed on the quant scores when applying for SLP programs? I would think the AW score would be much more of a concern. How much emphasis is placed on these scores in terms of everything else in your application being stellar? If you have a great SOP, grades, and LORs, how much weight is placed on these scores?

Thanks... My GRE score is really bad. I am hoping the fact I already have a Masters in another field counteracts my poor score. V 146 Q145 AW. Unknown...

I took nine SLP prereqs. However, one of the schools I am applying to only requires 5 courses. Will the school that only requires the 5 courses only look at the courses they require or will it look at all 9 courses?

Your GRE scores are good for 5 years. I would imagine your scores would expire August 2016.

I took Kaplan GRE prep course and it did not help. I was told I need to be in 40th percentile. I guess that is 150 in each section. I also had a tutor and that did not help. I have heard of Magoosh. I think I'll give that a shot.

I just took Kaplan test and scored once again 141 quant and 145 verbal... This is a losing battle...

Ok...I finally have some time to post some problems I have issues with... In the right triangle ABC what is the length of AB AC= x-1 AB= x+2 CB= x+5 The choices are: a/9, b/10, c/12, d/3, or e/15 Another I have issues with is a circle has a radius 5/3 What is its area? The choice are a/ square root 5 multiplied by pi divided by 3 b/ 5 multiplied by pi divided by 3 c/ 25 multiplied by pi divided by 9 d/ 10 multiplied by pi divided by 3 e/ 100 multiplied by pi divided by 9 Another problem is What's the slope of a line that passes through the points (-4,5) and (1,2) a/ -3/5 b/ -1 c/ -5/3 d-7/3 e/ -3 I really feel there is no hope for me getting at least a 150 in the math Time is running out

Thanks Violetyame, I am going to take a Powerprep test next Wednesday. I am going to try and get some more math studying in before. Does the Powerprep test include a writing section?
-
I'd kill for a 159. LOL

Neurogirl, the computerized test does not let you skip around. You must complete one problem before going on to the next. I already went the private tutoring route and it did not help at all. I tried a Kaplan course also and that did not help. Thanks for suggestions though...

I am having a hard time retaining and understanding the math concepts. I have always struggled with math. Although I took a college alegbra course in 2012 and received at B+, it means nothing at this point.

browncow, I stink at Math. Geometry seems word problems seem to be my downfall. I will look in my books and post examples. Thanks browncow

I am scheduled to take the test January 6th and I am struggling in quantitative. I have 141 on latest practice test. Is it possible to reach a score of 150 before test time? I reached 151 verbal on my latest practice test. I just need a 150 in each section to be in 40th percentile. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve in the quantitative section? Please help...I am so desperate!

I took a Princeton Practice Test last Tuesday V. 149 Quant 138 I just took Manhattan Prep V. 151 Quant 141 Which ones of these test are a better representation of the real exam?

Does anyone have any tips for this part of the exam? I seem to pick the answers that are too extreme or pick more than the right answer when told to select all that apply. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

I took the GRE back in 2011. My scores were about the same as the practice test. The quant slightly worse by four points. However, the verbal I improved three points. All I am aiming for is a 154 verbal and a 151 quant...with at least a 3.5 writing. I do not think it is possible.
