  1. Is there a status check tool (regarding admissions decisions) available for the University of Maryland, College Park? I noticed that when I logged into the application, it said that everything was complete but that results could not be given out via email nor phone. Does this mean that postal mail is the only way I can find out my admissions decision? Thanks for any responses!
  2. Your concerns highlight areas where your application is a bit mediocre, but far from weak. I would say that, overall, your qualifications are quite strong. Your GPA, although not perfect, is great -- indicating an A-B average (leaning towards A). A lack of fluency in a language could show that you do not know what exactly you want to do with an IR degree (e.g. which country will be your primary target); however, I'm more than certain many qualified applicants are admitted to similar programs every cycle without the advantage of fluency in another language. Your GRE is stellar, and should erase any concerns the admissions committees might have about your GPA. Unless you're going into policy analysis, I wouldn't worry that much about your economics background (or lack thereof). Overall -- you look pretty good!
  3. Congrats to all! I haven't heard anything as of yet. Good luck to all the applicants!
  4. Mine too. I'm not panicking yet, as some people have already gotten rejections -- which means the fact that we're still "in review" isn't that bad.
  5. Do you mean Texas A&M University? I'm applying to one of their master's programs right now. I got an interview last week (after the January deadline) but AIS has never been informative. I've been communicating with my department via email.
  6. Well it's hard to tell without your statistics. What's your GPA, GRE, etc?
  7. Sorry to hear about that Caradrina! Good luck with the rest of your applications!
  8. All of those things sound fantastic. Haha
  9. For those of y'all that went to the conference today, what'd you think? I'd love to hear some feedback from those who went in-person!
  10. I'm guessing that kathryn_a and Plate77 might have been special acceptances (perhaps priority acceptances). It seems that everyone else I've talked to hasn't heard back -- which might indicate that they haven't gotten to the rest of their acceptances yet. Just speculation though!
  11. Just to update y'all -- I just finished my Skype interview with them. Echoing what thrtyfutsmurf said, it made me even more impressed with the Bush School than when I applied. I was also interviewed by two professors who were happy to expound upon my questions concerning the program. It was fairly relaxed and informal.
  12. I am generally reluctant to gauge PhD applications -- as it is much less of a quantitative approach to admissions as compared with master's and professional programs. That being said, you look very competitive. I would venture to say that you will get accepted into some of those schools at the least.
  13. Still "in review" as well! Good luck everyone! Hopefully we'll all find out by this weekend.
  14. That is pretty early. Congrats! I wonder how long this means we should wait for acceptance letters before assuming rejections.
  15. It turns out I won't be at the conference due to a previous engagement. Good luck to all who attend!
  16. Good luck to you all! I submitted my final application to them a few days ago. Hopefully we'll all be studying in College Park together this fall!
  17. I think an important thing to ask yourself is what you want to get out of the program. If you are interested in simply pursuing further education for education's sake, then I would recommend a PhD program. If, however, your MPA is proving to be inapplicable to your intended career path, then you'll have a lot of options on the table to consider. If that is the case, could you give us an overview of your intended goals as well as why your current masters degree is not serving you well?
  18. Is anyone else flirting with the idea of doing the in-person interview? The admissions conference sounds pretty cool.
  19. I recieved an email from them today saying that I was invited back to the second round of interviews. Apparently they sent it a few days ago but it must've been lost in my inbox. Thanks!
  20. Does anyone know when A&M starts sending out its letters and requests for interviews? I heard someone say that they send out letters/requests for interviews in early February; so I'm wondering if that claim has any credibility to it. I'm applying for their MPSA (it's the Bush School equivalent to an MPA). Thoughts? Comments? Opinions?
  21. Your undergraduate GPA is great -- I'm not sure why you think it's bad. Your GRE scores are stellar, generally above average or on-par with the programs you're applying to. You have a slight dearth of work experience (as with many applicants who apply straight out of undergrad), but don't worry, your other assets cover that up. Overall, I'd say you have a good chance of getting accepted into most of the programs you applied to!
  22. I wouldn't be so pessimistic. It's a newer program, so it's quite possible they expanded seats this year (and we have no accurate way to determine the number of individuals placed on the wait list). For now, I would like to encourage those who were accepted into U.Va. to make their decisions as soon as they can. Those of us on the wait list would be very grateful for a quicker final decision!
  23. I just received a notice that I was waitlisted. I'm happy, considering that it's a great school and probably my first choice! Does anyone know what the likelihood of getting off the waitlist is?
  24. Your GRE is excellent overall (a 4.5 AW is in the 78th percentile, and your Verbal score is top-notch). The quantitative score is average. Honestly, most of the people on these forums tend to have higher scores than the majority of people who take the test, so don't get discouraged about that. Even on the quant. section you did better than most people who took it. Thanks! Good luck.
  25. I completely agree. "Major" implies an undergraduate degree. This reductionist view of education (focused solely on worshiping the almighty dollar) assumes money is the only thing that determines worth. This sort of mentality is exactly why our higher education system is so broken in the United States. The list is bogus. It's not what you major in that matters the most, but rather how you apply what you majored in to the "real world". You can be very financially successful with a psychology degree and broke-as-a-joke with a business degree.
