@Ohhsojenna I spoke with a recent alum and it was more of a conversation about my interest in social policy and what I hope to gain as a result of earning an MPA. I asked a lot of questions about life as a Fels student and their current work, because it was directly related to my field of interest. He seemed most interested in seeing if my goals and interests aligned with the program to gauge whether or not I would be a good fit: policy interest, work history, moving from the west coast to the east coast, career interests, self-sufficiency, etc. Hope that helps, but I'm sure it depends on whoever you end up talking to. Good luck!

Got the call this morning. Admitted with 1/3 funding.

Admitted with one-quarter tuition fellowship per year.

I really enjoyed it. They provided a lot of information about things like career services, student life and support. The faculty that spoke were inspiring and impressive. This was the largest group they had ever had attending this event so I think they handled it well considering the number of attendees. I met a lot of great people, including current students, both first and second year who were really friendly and answered all my questions. Overall, it's clear that the recent influx of funding and support from the University of Chicago has allowed them to ramp up their offerings to better serve the increasing number of students they hope to recruit in the coming years.

Accepted with $26K plus $4K assistantship. -
You're right. Looked too quickly. Thanks!

Ford's admissions statistics are online. As are LBJ's. Not all schools are publicly posting but there may still be third party sites with access to the information, although it could be outdated.
-
Good to know. There's no doubt it's a great school. It's a fine balance playing the name game and finding the right program for my policy interest.
-
@dollybird Thanks for the info! I would definitely agree on the whole that Ford has somewhat better name recognition than LBJ, although I think they're also known for different policy areas (Ford-education; LBJ-security), generally speaking. Plus it seems like a lot of LBJ grads stay in Texas. I wonder if the difference in funding is a result of the difference in tuition cost too.

There was an option to indicate on the registration form whether you were interested in attending a class on Thursday. I didn't do it but I'm assuming they'll follow up with those who do.
-
I was making the same assumption. Thanks for the info @dollybird. Duke and UPenn Fels are supposed to release decisions then as well. @dollybird just wondering why your understanding is that LBJ and Harris are less selective? According to Peterson's (not sure how reliable they are) Harris's acceptance rate is 43% while Ford's is 63%, for example.

@thex11factor I applied for early decision. Even after they'd extended the deadline, I heard from them when they said they'd send notifications. They called to tell me about my acceptance offer and they've sent out regular communications since about webinars and other information about the school. I'm happy with how communicative they've been.

Thanks for the update and congrats! Did your My Status page update after you received the letter? I got the email saying I was accepted but my page hasn't updated at all. Maybe it doesn't mean anything though.

@dollybird Congrats! And yes I'm going to admitted students day. I won't be going to LBJ's though. I went to UT as an undergrad and I'm from Texas, so I don't feel a need to visit. While I've been to Chicago and attended an event for alumni and prospective students out here, I'm looking forward to visiting the campus to see if it strengthens my interest in attending Harris. It doesn't hurt that they're providing travel vouchers. I was also accepted to Brandeis Heller with 55% funding, so that puts it about even with Texas in terms of tuition right now.

Same, except for MPAff. I assumed that because it said, "your admissions offer does not include one of the limited fellowships" that meant I wasn't being offered funding. Did anyone get a letter with different language about funding? I got into Chicago Harris with half tuition. Texas is still less expensive but they're both in my top three. However, if Harris seems more interested in me ( Texas offers no funding), I'll stick with Harris.
