  1. I submitted my Fulbright ETA application two days ago for Macedonia. Hopefully the end of January will be here like nothing -- with positive feedback! How do the rest of you feel about your applications?
  2. I'm applying for the Fulbright ETA in Macedonia.
  3. Unfortunately, I don't personally know much about the hard sciences. But it would help if you let us know what your GRE scores were for both instances. It might be worthwhile to make a note of the poor grades, but don't spend an exorbitant amount of time discussing it; you don't want to give them a reason to reject you.
  4. I didn't use a root list, but I did use the game I described in my earlier post. I tried Kaplan and Princeton Review; they were both good resources, but the PowerPrep ETS practice tests were the closest to the actual test -- for me. You can find the program here. Honestly, I wouldn't spend too much time with #2, #3, and #4 that you posted. Learning the words in context is important, but I've rarely seen the majority of the words I needed for the GRE.
  5. Have you taken any practice tests yet? If so, what were your scores for both sections? If not, take one of the PowerPrep ETS practice tests to see what your scores look like. I just took the test last week, and studying this list really helped me out. They also have a matching game on there. Spending ten to fifteen minutes "playing" it each day could really help.
  6. I just took the GRE today, and I ended up learning about 130 words over the last two weeks that were considered "high frequency" on most GRE vocabulary lists. Learning those words ended up allowing me to understand passages and questions that were completely incomprehensible two weeks ago. I could give you a list of the flashcards I made if you PM me, but you might also find value in this game. You can also find their list of words here. Apart from that, just make sure you learn the words in context and continue to review them on a daily basis! Take your time on the actual test and also think about whether the statements actually make sense. I noticed many sets of synonymous words for the questions that simply did not make any sense in the statements.
  7. Hi! I took the GRE this morning and got the following scores: 157 (verbal), 152 (quantitative). Do these seem like reasonable scores for someone applying to graduate schools with a (current) GPA of 3.9, multiple conference presentations (local, regional, national), a potential publication in the conference proceedings for one of these, and teaching experience? My major is Secondary English Education, which certifies me to teach English in grades 7-12. Furthermore, my concentrations are African American literature and linguistics/grammar. As a result, I'm applying to programs in both of these areas. Any suggestions -- apart from taking the GRE again -- would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
