  1. Hey everyone I decided to make a group for students accepted into the MSW at UofT for both 2 year and advanced standing, at least for those of us who don't have Facebook or prefer to continue on gradcafe. Hope we can help each other with courses, practicum selection, living arrangements, and anything else!
  2. Hey there, Angela said it was mailed out the afternoon that ROSI changed so April 1st. I would assume those of us in the Toronto area will get them in the mail Tuesday or Wednesday... I don't think post works on Easter Monday.
  3. There was someone on this forum a few years ago (I think for the 2013 start) and they did not get accepted the first time they applied then they went back and boosted their GPA and got in the next year, this was for advanced standing @ UofT if I remember correctly. Also someone else mentioned that if your research methods mark is really low but overall GPA is high it can give you a disadvantage, that grade is apparently really important to UofT. I'm not sure what your GPA was but I know people do get in with mid-Bs and B+ if they have lots of experience, so if you don't have that experience then maybe going back to boost would help make the application overall stronger. I really hope you hear back some good news though! I gave up completely and was registering for plan B then this happened so you never know I'm really keeping fingers crossed that you all hear back some good news!
  4. Fenris70 I completely agree I think that should be something explicitly stated on their application website, it changes your hours pretty drastically. I never sent an updated resume because last year when I spoke to UofT they told me only hours until December will be considered so I don't know why they would be accepting resumes to be honest. I wish they were more clear about that, I would e-mail and ask if the updated resume will be considered in the admissions process or if it is simply policy to put things "on file" As for those accepted, I can't be the only one without Facebook right I was thinking of making a group on gradcafe under "meet and greet" for UofT 2 Year MSW Class of 2017 for anyone else who doesn't have Facebook I'm sure I will have a zillion questions haha Would anyone be interested in that?
  5. I got into uoft I can't breath I literally started crying and hyperventilating at work omg!!
  6. same for me I was wait-listed last year at UofT I am hoping I did enough to get in this year I really hope we all get some answers tomorrow
  7. My myfile says reviewed-unsuccessful wasn't really holding my breath for York though its so hard to get in. Congrats to those who got wait list or accepted
  8. congrats again do you mind telling us if your status on the sgs site has changed?
  9. I feel you! I am getting to the point where I want to know good or bad just so I can move on with life and start sleeping a bit better. I have found a few things that help with anxiety including: - going to the gym (which is great when I motivate myself to actually go) - going to job interviews because it is giving me hope for something if it doesn't go how I planned - I also have a notebook where I have written down several "plan Bs" with concrete ideas of how I will make it happen and in which time frame.
  10. Congrats! Mine also has no updates I think I will take that as a sign of rejection katkatkat you have perfectly summarized my feels. they are literally 3 soul crushing words I am going to try to bring my breathing back to normal pace now
  11. zebra_mountain, I understand where you are coming from, and I agree there are many amazing opportunities across the country but many of us are caregivers or have children and moving is simply not an option. I found volunteer work in the GTA to be extremely valuable and fulfilling, I had the opportunity to work with many amazing social workers and take part in many of the same daily activities that regular staff do. I think volunteer work is an amazing skill builder for people who either can't find relevant paid work in their area or can't move. I know for myself that I would never be able to follow my dreams if substantial paid work was a requirement because I am unable to find it in the GTA and I am a caregiver which means I cannot leave and move. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to become a social worker even though I don't have a lot of paid work experience but I don't think that discounts all of my non-paid volunteer work or maybe not directly related paid work. I don't see that making me "less of" a future social worker I am sure that there will be opportunities to build those skills in co-ops during school and jobs post graduation.
  12. Hey everyone, I am wondering if anyone has heard anything from York regarding applications, I know a few people mentioned they tried to get in contact but I am wondering if anyone had success? My myfile still has no change, my ROSI is still no registration history I am really hoping that we get something this week at this point I am ready to know either way
  13. Hey there, I am currently trying to think up a plan B as well. Last year I was wait-listed at UofT and ultimately rejected, my plan B last year was take 6 months to volunteer as much as possible until the next application was due to boost my application. I volunteered in 3 positions and I got a part time job as a research assistant. It was incredibly hard financially but ultimately it has helped me with not only applications but also job searching. This year is a different situation, I can't afford not to work anymore so I am under serious pressure to find a full time job to start making money and finding work in the field, or even somewhat relevant field with a BA is incredibly difficult. On top of that my partner is moving to a different city for a dream job, a city that has even less opportunity than Toronto Ironically, I feel less confident this year with my application. I really hope I get in but I am preparing for the worst and contemplating whether to re-apply for 2016. I might just take a year or two assuming I can find full time work, and wait then reapply. This process has really taken a lot out of me emotionally as I am sure many multiple time applicants can relate.
  14. I think that was a wait-list situation, someone on the forum got accepted from wait-list in August last year too. However, I've never heard of UofT not sending initial decisions later than April they are usually good on their word
  15. I have never been more excited for a weekend to be over and it hasn't even started, I can't wait for Monday and the possibility of hearing something. Just wondering if everyone's sgs still says under review (for those of us who haven't been accepted) I'm seriously starting to get flustered every time I open my rosi and see no registration in bold, stinging red.
  16. I am starting to think we won't get news today. If Angela is the one updating rosi and she's not in the office she might have kids and took off a few days for March break. Someone mentioned she wasn't in yesterday either. I'll be refreshing until 5 though cause last week they found out later in the day.
  17. I think they found out around 5 p.m. last Friday so I am holding on to hope until that time I am sooo anxious though I really hope we don't have to wait another week
  18. You are not alone, I've already begun! I dare someone to try to pry my phone from my hands today haha
  19. It will only show you have been invited to the MSW program after you have been accepted. From my understanding current UofT students see their undergraduate information unless they get accepted, then the MSW stuff gets added and shows invited (if they get accepted) Non- UofT students only show "no registration history" unless they get accepted so your ROSI won't show anything about the MSW unless you get accepted hope that helps
  20. This makes me so excited for tomorrow, I don't know if I will be able to sleep tonight of detach myself from my phone tomorrow! It would be so nice to have a happy ending (or rather a new beginning!) to the last 2 years of applications and waiting:)
  21. Firstly, congrats on your acceptance I know smpalesh was accepted to UofT and lives out of town, they mentioned that they made an arrangement for their practicum to be in their hometown which would make commuting a lot more accessible. You would have to consider where you want your placement (if it is something only available in Toronto) and things like that, plus weigh out the difference financially and whether the time spent travelling to save money is worth it.
  22. I reached my positive vote quota for the day but if I could I would thumbs up this a thousand times! That is amazing news I really hope that this Friday some of us find out good news !
  23. I really want to believe this theory but I have to say that it is really hard to imagine UofT not doing their applicants justice by reading everyone's application at least once before making any decisions. We all paid a fee to have our applications considered fairly and they wouldn't accept people without reading through everything at least once, it would be completely unjust to their applicants after all our hard work in creating the application. I do agree that they are probably separating applications into groups like "yes" "maybe" "no" and then going through the yes/maybe piles in more detail and possibly debating about who gets into the final cut. I am more prone to believe last Friday's acceptances were the "creme de la creme" so to speak. They are most likely waiting to see if they get any rejections from those who got accepted because that impacts how many acceptances get sent out in the next round. I would assume that if all the acceptances/rejections/wait-lists got mailed the same day like they have been in the past that some of us would have gotten something in the mail today. I am definitely inclined to believe that it is a rolling admissions system this year but I suppose we have to wait until Friday to really find out
  24. I know right! I must admit I am so thankful for this forum and everyone on it, there is something that we all share that nobody in my family understands about this process it really is amazing to have this supportive community!
  25. I will definitely be checking my ROSI every day, probably multiple times a day, until I get a letter in the mail. This is feeling like the slowest week ever
