  1. I am baffled by York sometimes, they really outdo themselves, I hope they clarify this for you asap that is ridiculous. on an unrelated topic, I don't understand this UofT business. Last year I was told by admissions they only consider your experience up to the deadline date (December) and now people are submitting updated resumes with another few months of experience.. not very fair to only give some applicants the upper hand. If they allow this then they should have that as common knowledge on the website. Also, I am inclined to agree with blh22 that something about these files just being created is getting lost in translation. I find it hard to believe that they are just now beginning with sorting, it would be a lot of work for them to do in the middle of final exams and assignments, most of the committee is probably teaching and busy enough as it is. To finish that amount of work in only a few weeks would require around the clock deliberations. I am tempted to call Angela to clarify but I feel like she is way too busy herself to give anything aside from her generic response. Hopefully this all gets cleared up quickly
  2. Thanks for the update, that is so bizarre, I feel like something must be off this year it would be strange to have a December deadline only to have them just begin looking at over 800 applications and deciding on them in 2 weeks during one of the busiest times of the school year. Also Angela told someone else to expect letters arriving from Mid-March so who knows what is really going on. Oh my goodness the suspense is driving me absolutely mad. I really, really hope that this isn't true and that we will find out asap... if they haven't even started looking at 2 years that means it could be weeks before we find out anything
  3. Congrats! This is for advanced standing right?
  4. Have any advanced standing students heard back from York yet?
  5. Have you checked the apply.sgs website recently? Last year, that website did not change for a while after letters were mailed out but it seems like this year they are actually keeping the ROSI/sgs sites pretty much in sync. Angela also mentioned in her e-mail to blh22 that they would be updating the sgs site with "decision made" UofT seems to be doing things differently this year though so I wouldn't give up hope. They might be waiting to see how many declined offers they get from the first round of letters and then sending the next wave before they even get to waitlists etc.
  6. I think you may be right, this isn't how they did it last year, letters were all sent out pretty much the same 2 day period. This year though, it seems they are doing a rolling admissions kind of like York by sending out to the highest score, then if they reject they go down to the next set of applicants. It is a nerve wracking system, but it might help with their paperwork load by keeping it in waves.
  7. I believe York is usually the last school, 2 years ago people were getting letters into May :| whereas last year I received it 2 weeks after UofT sent my letter (pretty much end of April). I find it interesting that they would be finishing up earlier this year considering that (based on the forum) not all the advanced standing students have heard yet. Unfortunately York said to expect delays for admissions this year because of the strike I also find it interesting Angela states that the online status will change to "decision made" I wonder whether that is true or if that is just a standard statement.. so many questions, so little patience haha
  8. from Mid-March that could mean beginning next week (I'm being hopeful lol)! That's a very different system from previous years, the online status didn't change for weeks after I received the letter. Thanks for the update!
  9. Random thought, I was wondering, what happens to students who are in their 4th year of undergrad if their classes are being disrupted by the strike I remember one year the strike at York lasted months. Does that mean if they get accepted to a program they can't attend until they have graduated? I know it is hard to get in straight from 4th year of undergrad but I was wondering what happens if you do but you can't finish your program in time for September. I feel really bad for students at York, I have to say I am glad I finished last year I would freak out if school had gone on strike literally 1 month before my last exams of undergrad. Good luck to anyone trying to finish up, hopefully this wraps up a lot quicker than it did in 08/09 Edited to add: I found this on York's website (not sure if someone already posted this) "No, the labour disruption will not interrupt the admissions process. The process will continue but may take a little longer."
  10. I hope you are right lightning1129, it seems like the strike has nothing to do with the decisions. Has anyone contacted Angela or anyone at York to find out if this will impact when the decisions are being mailed out? I'm assuming that it won't have an impact because they would probably let the advanced standing students know at least in an e-mail by now if decisions are getting delayed since people have to start making choices and selections. magfish, I woke up this morning and was actually excited to see March 1 on the calendar it seems so much more real and plausible to start getting responses now that we are officially in March! Last year the first few 2 year students from York found out on March 31 I really hope that they start sending out responses that soon this year too
  11. Oh my I just saw that I hope as prariegirl is right and that this in no way affects decisions being mailed out from what I saw it was TA's that rejected the offer.
  12. Not sure if anyone saw but UofT reached a tentative agreement so no strike
  13. haha you can press the green arrow (I guess that's the closest thing to a "like") Someone posted a comment earlier today that they talked to Angela about the 2 year but now I can't find it they said that Angela said the letters would be mailed out end of March, did anyone else see this? or talk to Angela... I am so impatient it is terrible York has updated their phone system this year and made it hard to anonymously ask when decisions will begin being mailed out. I feel so bad for pestering the admissions coordinators but I am so anxious, doing this process two years in a row has really taken a lot out of me I really hope I won't have to do this again next year. Has anyone started coming up with alternative plans for next year if they don't get in this year?
  14. Just wondering as I've noticed that people have been calling schools, has anyone contacted York this year to find out when they will begin sending admissions for the 2 year program?
  15. Haha, oh my goodness, I've been very bad with this even though I know the results don't come out until April. I've also been checking York's myfile everyday, last year was a very blunt rejection when it went from "no decision yet" to "unsuccessful" within the 1 hour I checked twice. Luckily they will probably be too busy to check that tab but if they ever did oh boy In other news, 3 more days until March which means the reality of decisions will begin to be a little more concrete ahh I can't wait.
  16. Hey the website states that they will be sent by Mid-April, last year they were sent around April 6/7. Hope that helps!
  17. I don't think that the strike will affect the admissions committee, they probably aren't a part of that strike because they are most likely tenured or permanent positions. Plus I read somewhere the university will stay open and operational even if a strike does end up happening. However, someone did mention earlier in the forum they talked to Angela and she said they were dealing with flooding for a week so I would assume that if they were shut down for a week to deal with that it would push back everything by a week which means even longer waiting ... I have already started having dreams/nightmares about letters haha
  18. I feel like these last few days of February are moving at snail's pace, how is the waiting game going for everyone these days? I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for rejection or wait-lists. Re-reading the forum from last year a lot of people were wait-listed two years in a row with amazing experience and it is making me very down on my chances. Another year of struggling to find relevant work would be really tough financially and mentally here's hoping for the best
  19. I know it is tough because of the commute but you still got into one of the most competitive programs for social work at UofT. On the bright side by this time next year you will be well on your way to being a MSW graduate : )
  20. purplegrey I'm so sorry to hear that, I know how awful the feeling is, I hope you still get in to your other options.
  21. I am wondering the same thing, it seems to be a very different system from previous years. I'm not even getting hopes up for a response from York because I know their decisions are mailed out at random times. Last year I got it near the end of April and other years I've read of people getting them all the way through May. UofT is usually very consistent and timely with decisions. I'm really, really hoping that the decisions start coming early this year for the 2 year program I want to "rip off the band aid" whatever the response may be. The wait is excruciating! 5 more days until March : )
  22. LOL blh22, exactly how I feel. I wish it would be March already! Waiting while job searching ... very unsuccessfully is like a double knockdown to my self esteem plus too much time on my hands haha. Unfortunately commuting with no income for volunteering became unsustainable and now I have wayyyy too much free time
  23. I am so excited for all the advanced standing students who have started hearing back, congrats to all those who have gotten in! I have come to terms with the fact that I will not be sleeping very much until April and until I find out! This forum is an amazing support system I really appreciate everyone's stories/backgrounds. Just wondering if anyone remembers around what time advanced standing started hearing back from UofT last year? From what I remember it was 2nd week of March? Also, lightning1129 that sounds like a very interesting topic I hope you get the chance to do that
  24. Same here, I really hope this isn't some kind of cruel joke it would be beyond amazing to get decisions an entire month early, the thought that we could know in the next 3/4 weeks gets my heart racing! Hopefully some more details will start coming out soon. Also congrats to everyone who has started receiving acceptances!
  25. have you tried to check ROSI?
