  1. Congrats to everyone who got in at York I wonder if they will be emailing rejections as well.
  2. Hi everyone:) I just thought I'd share that I spoke to the graduate admissions office today at York for the two year MSW program. I was told that the decisions will be mailed out within the next two weeks- guaranteed.
  3. Welcome:) It seems like you are a very strong candidate (I envy your experience ) Offers of admission, the waitlist, and rejections are mailed out probably the first or second week of April judging by previous years. However, it is possible to check if you have been "invited" online through the ROSI system, as some Advanced Standing students did so and found out a few days prior to the physical letter coming in the mail. Best of luck! *if you want to see how to access ROSI check back in the past few pages many people have posted instructions
  4. Hey, I'm not sure if that is a standard offer but I was talking to grad student today who told me York treats their grad students very well (money and support wise) I mean I know it is just one persons opinion but she just got admitted to her PhD at UofT and her experience with York was really positive
  5. Hey, congrats on the acceptance I just wanted to mention that you could hear back from UofT earlier than the 15th. Last year they got decisions around the second week of April (before the 15th). Plus, they mailed out advanced standing earlier than expected so it might happen for the two year decisions as well. Best of luck!
  6. Hey, Firstly, congrats on your acceptance! As for your predicament for mailing back a reply you can always express mail the letter. I did this for some documents for UofT and they got it the next business day (I live in the GTA). Also, keep in mind you could hear back from some schools prior to mid-April, I recently e-mailed York about where they stand with decisions being mailed out so when I find out I will post it here . I'm not sure about accepting and cancelling however I'm sure you are not the first person to be in this situation so I'm sure if you call OISE or e-mail them you could explain the situation and they can offer you some advice.
  7. Is it April yet?

  8. Hey, I did not get that e-mail (I also applied to York for the 2 year program) but maybe that's because I am already a York student at the moment? I know some friends applying to teacher's college have gotten open house and housing information e-mails too
  9. Hey I think it's possible that we might hear back in the beginning of April considering the advance standing students heard back a little earlier I believe. Well I'm really hoping that will be the case because focusing on final exams/assignments is becoming impossible
  10. Hey, Thanks for the input it is very encouraging to see you were wait listed with around 100 hours, I don't think it is necessarily a cut off but perhaps she was encouraged to get closer to the number to increase chances. Again, I'm not sure what other factors played into the rejection of her application. It just really shocked me when I heard that number.
  11. Hey As far as I know it is not posted on the site I believe that they just say that volunteer experience is an asset. How I came upon the 700 hours is through a friend who applied last year but was not accepted. When she called to find out why they told her that her experience (volunteer and/or paid) needed to be 700 hours in social service related work in order to be competitive. I think after people don't get in the first time they probably volunteer the following year in relevant settings and rack up the hours so it makes it more competitive for applicants who are maybe applying directly from school or could not volunteer for whatever reason. The hours are based off whatever you put in your application I don't think there is a time limit for how far back they look. Also as I'm sure we've all heard before it is looked at as a package so maybe there was other factors that played into her rejection as well (i.e., the reference letters which are not supposed to be discussed after the fact). This is just what I heard and it made me have a bit of a panic attack so I was looking for moral support here
  12. Thanks for the response, glad to see your story definitely helped me calm down a bit. I know they say they look at it as a whole package so I'm hoping that the rest of my application will speak for itself. Plus there is the stuff that they can't really talk about like what references said, so there could be additional factors that affected her chances. Anyways it's out of my hands now I just can't help internally judging my chances lol
  13. Hi Everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me out because I had a conversation today with a friend at school who applied to the 2 year MSW last year. She's a straight A student and in the same program so we have research experience from our classes but she was not accepted. She told me when she called later to find out what she was lacking it was her volunteer experience, they told her they prefer around the ballpark of 700 hours for UofT. Needless to say my jaw nearly dropped (I have about 300) and now of course I am feeling really really discouraged about my application/chances of getting in. Any words of encouragement or stories of people getting in with less would be very appreciated right now lol
  14. Hey I can totally feel everything you are saying lol I've been having nightmares for the past week about missing something or not meeting the grade cut off. As for when to give up hope (because I have thought of the possibility of rejection in great detail), I agree with DanielEPS if this is something you really really want to do then don't give up. I've also heard if you get rejected you can call and ask what was missing from your application and try to fix it for the following year. Best of luck!
  15. Hey, I'm also coming from a non-social work background (Child Studies) and I'm applying to York and UofT for the 2 year. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to volunteer as much as I would have wanted to so I am hoping that research experience in my undergrad and my grades will pull me through. I know how hard it is to get in the first try but I'm still hoping. I don't really have a clear idea of a GPA because my school (York) works on a 9 pt scale so trying to figure it out is never 100% accurate but I think it is around an A/ A- (not sure in terms of GPA) in my senior level courses. just wondering if anyone asked Angela at UofT how many spots there will be this year for the two year program? also if you get rejected do they send you a small letter (I notice the acceptances come with a larger brown envelope?)
  16. It seems like time is moving very slowly

  17. Hey:) welcome, I completed related to reading " I think my written statements were alright - however I haven't re read them since I've submitted them because I'm too paranoid of finding mistakes and hating myself for it, haha." anyways best of luck and hopefully we all hear back soon nice to see someone else who is applying to York for the two year
  18. Thanks for letting us know about the status thing that's a relief I saw from some other people that ROSI shows invited so I'll be relying on that
  19. Hey thanks for responding it's great to see what everyone else has in their backgrounds hopefully we all get in
  20. Wow that seems like a lot of experience, especially for right out of school (I'm in the same boat)
  21. I know I keep wondering that too and obsessively checking to see if it has changed to "decision made" even though I know it is too early haha. What experience do you have if you don't mind me asking? I see a lot of stuff from the advanced standing applicants so I'm wondering about the two year students
  22. Hey, I'm also applying to the 2 year at UofT it is so hard to wait so here's hoping that the results come sooner
  23. Congrats that's so awesome!!! : )
  24. Yeah it seems that way, I haven't met anyone else from my program who is not applying to teacher's college. Good luck!
