  1. Advanced standing students find out before 2 year (which is in early April) although I almost had a mini heart attack before I realized it was for advanced standing lol
  2. Agreed! I remember last year when I was in the final semester of fourth year all my friends were applying to teacher's college and they knew that all responses would be on April 1 and only on April 1. I could hardly focus through exams and final assignments while they knew exactly when they would all find out. Hopefully this year they will magically finish decisions super early
  3. I feel the same way, I tried to tell myself that I'd wait patiently for the letter to physically arrive in the mail this year as opposed to obsessively checking ROSI every 2 minutes but something tells me that is not going to happen I am already starting to get antsy from waiting. Looking through some of UofT's co-op options online makes me even more excited for the opportunity to attend their program, fingers crossed. Good luck to everyone who has started hearing back from schools
  4. @soapaddict I have heard similar things as SocialWork93, with that said, a girl that I knew who graduated from the program last year said it was very nice because it was such a small program - very intimate because of the small number of students. I have also heard the number of students ranges from 20-40 in some years (I'm guessing it depends on how much money they get because from what I remember York offers students they accept funding). I can't wait to start hearing back from schools, some days I can't believe it's already the end of February and other days I can't believe it's only February haha. Good Luck!
  5. I really hope this doesn't affect us but like blh22 mentioned, I think that most of the professors on the admissions committee are tenured or at least they are permanent which means I don't think this impacts them. It seems to be mostly about TA's and sessional profs. Fingers crossed I am already counting the days as it is so I hope that the decisions don't get delayed even further. @ soapaddict, what in particular are you wondering about York's 2 year?
  6. Salvoquat, you might want to try asking in a different forum related to PhD's in Canada or classical studies, this one is for people applying to the MSW programs in Canada.
  7. I did the same thing last year (I was applying straight out of undergrad) so I took this year to volunteer as much as I possibly could but I cannot afford to do that for another year so I'm looking into post-grad fast track college programs now. I've been looking for full-time work since December and it has only made me realize that I need an MSW for anything that would truly make me happy career wise so everything is riding on this in a way lol no pressure but I'm sure we can all relate.
  8. Bettyg that paragraph perfectly summarizes my daily thought process. Not sure where all of you are living, but this snowy, freezing cold weather is making it all that much harder to stay calm and patient waiting for April. The wait is literally excruciating Has anyone started thinking about their "plan-b"? I am wracking my brain trying to figure out what's next if this doesn't work out...
  9. Hey there, I'm sorry to hear that, hope it goes better for you at the other schools! General question for everyone though, isn't it early compared to other years to be hearing back from York? Last year I got my rejection letter close to May, did anyone get letters earlier last year?
  10. It was on the very first page (I believe the home page) when you log in. If you were accepted it would say successful or something along those lines but that only showed up maybe 2 weeks before the letters arrived. I think people saw the status of acceptance on ROSI mid-March for the 2 year program and then letters arrived first or second week of April.
  11. Hey there, from what I remember people saying last year large envelope is an acceptance package and small letter size is a rejection or wait list. As far as checking online, there is a way to do it. I remember doing it last year even though I am not / never was a UofT student. There is a way to get your UofT student number from your application and then create a password which allows you to view your ROSI account and see if you've been accepted (it won't show rejections though, only acceptances) I wish I could help more but the process of creating the ROSI account is really fuzzy in my mind, hopefully someone else can add more details about this
  12. Hey there, I did this last year while I was in my final year of undergrad. I just went to the online registrar and sent a new transcript the same way I did with my original mailed transcript.
  13. Submitted all my documents to York today and now begins the most agonizing 4 months ever
  14. I just finished my UofT application, I submitted everything it feels so good to see all those little green check marks haha fingers crossed Now I'm off to work on my statement for York Good luck everyone!
  15. Hey In regards to the SSW I personally think it is a great idea/investment. I did not personally complete it, however I am now 6 months post-grad and struggling to find jobs in social services. Through my adventures in various volunteer positions since graduating I've met quite a few people who finished SSW diploma and 2 of them were supervisors or duty co-ordinators. If I don't get in again this year I am going to look into college programs for next year because like I said I've run into people who have positions I would love to have with various college educations (also, they many of them are relatively young so it's not always b/c of their experience). I'm also looking into Child Youth Worker and Volunteer Management Certificate
  16. Hey there, I'm also applying to York and the statement is driving me slightly mad haha I'm finding it so hard to say everything in those 500 words and York's instructions are so vague for everything. Basically how I have the statement written as of now is in essay style, because I found headings wasted word count and I like to stick to it strictly ( bad past experiences with very specific professors ) lol. How are you outlining the CV for York? UofT wants hours/month and I'm wondering if I should include that for York as well.
  17. Great point jenste, I totally agree. Personally I had no room to list attributes separately because of the limited word count. I used that part of my statement to really expand on my experience and kind of make those attributes obvious through examples of the things I have done at volunteering or work. After writing UofT's statement I felt so limited when writing one for York and including all of those details in only 500 words, my goodness lol On another note, all my reference letters have been submitted and I finally feel like I can breathe a little lol How are everyone else's applications coming along? I keep avoiding submitting my statements cause I want to keep re-editting them haha
  18. Hey there, That is how I interpreted the question as well. I wrote about personal experiences that motivated me in the first question and for the second question I wrote about volunteer and work experiences specifically.
  19. Hey there, no need to panic! That happens after all of your documents have been submitted, basically it means that everything has been received. It will stay this way until you receive your admissions response, then it changes to "decision made".
  20. Hey LP3, Yeah I had that issue with references before, I try to e-mail them to expect the form as soon as I apply, then I email a reminder a few weeks later and if they are not replying I call them to make sure they are still able to be my reference. I would call the references to remind them, I don't know what happens if they don't do it in time though. Good luck!
  21. I included pretty much everything because if you dig deep enough, it all helps in some way. For example, as a receptionist you would need organizational skills, people skills and stuff like that and those are things that are all great qualities in a future social worker if you think about it. Sure you might have work that is more relevant but you have no page limit (for UofT not sure about other schools) so it can't hurt to put it down.
  22. Hey there, to go off of what purplegrey has said, you have amazing experience! I would be super confident going in with that experience and your grades are great. I can't think of a reason why you would not be accepted as long as you really emphasize all these great positions in your statements. Practicum placements still count they just fall under the category of un-paid work kind of like volunteering. When I didn't get accepted last year someone (who was a previous student at UofT for the MSW) told me to go as far back as adding high-school co-op positions in my application, in other words, every hour of experience helps. Personal statements are the bane of my existence at this point so I totally feel your stress. I keep telling everyone that every time I re-read it I still don't feel like it is ever good enough. It is incredibly hard to relax and be confident in your application knowing that so much rides on these statements, but we are all in the same boat! I think you are a shoe-in with all this super direct social work experience! You clearly have a dedication for the profession and I agree with what you mentioned about emphasizing work with diverse populations. I've had discussions with a girl who did her PhD on volunteerism and she spoke to the admissions committees of many MSW programs as part of the research, they all want people who have experience working with diverse populations as well as children with disabilities. Hope this helps and best of luck writing the statements
  23. Hi there! Just to go off what jenste mentioned, York does provide great financial support, if money is an issue it is really worth checking it out and I've heard nothing but great things about the professors supporting students during school and after graduation. As far as keeping in contact with professors I found it useful to send a reminder e-mail the summer prior to applying along the lines of "Hope your summer is going well, as I prepare for my application I just wanted to make sure you would still consider being my reference, I'll send more details closer to the date in the Fall" (obviously a little more embellished than this lol) I also found that going in person during the professor's office hours was useful because it kind of jogged their memory and put a face to a name. My professor allowed me to send her an e-mail with all the things she could highlight about me in her reference letter so that was really awesome and I think in part because I went to see her in person. Hope everything works out:)
  24. Thanks, York is very difficult to get in touch with sometimes I have been trying for the past few days however the reference responded and said she will get it done so that's a relief! I have another question though I'm still kind of on the fence for applying to Windsor, does anyone know how their practicums work? On the website I am seeing placements throughout Toronto in York Region, so would that mean you are living in Windsor but travelling 4 days a week to Toronto placements (if that's what you get)?
  25. Hi Everyone, I have a question about York University (for the 2 year program). I spoke to one of my referees last week who told me that the school wrote in the e-mail she received that she only has 2 weeks to fill out my reference. I can't find this information anywhere (aside from the application saying check in with referees after 2 or 3 weeks). I'm freaking out a bit because that would make it due this Thursday and I can't get in contact with my academic reference. Ugh... I hate depending on other people for these things : / Does anyone know if this is true I can't remember from last year because my references all filled it out within days last time
