How's that decision going?

What's the word on UT's American Studies? If you're in, are you going to go? If you're still on the waitlist, are you going to hold on hope until the bitter (or hopeful) end?
I haven't heard anything, the the coordinator said most of the movement happens in March. That said, I got a really good offer from UMass English so I think i am going to go with that.t

Got the rejection from Yale, my last one! So now just those waitlists! (somebody turn down UT Austin plz)
-
Still haven't heard from Yale (joint Am Studies and AFAm) so no clue what to think. I am also waitlisted at FOUR schools so waiting for that, but I am very excited about UMASS.

I'm waitlisted at UConn (English Ph.D. Rhet/Comp concentration).
It's my top choice school and I'm really hoping there's enough movement to open up a spot.
The letter was kind, but it lacked any details about the length of the waitlist. Fingers crossed!
I am waitlisted at UConn too, but in lit.
Also waitlisted at UT Austin Am Studies, Delaware, Alabama (they literally accept 3 students in total for Ph.D AND MA)

Also still waiting on Yale, but unsure if the Af-Am/American joint is contacting today...
ohhh i didn't even think of that! I am also a joint applicant.

WHY HASN'T YALE CONTACTED ME AH

Now I'm tempted to do that so I can also get the devastating news.
honestly, if it's really dragging on you I would just do it! And who knows, you might get the good news (or the waitlist agony)
-
Waitlisted at Uconn! I am apparently destined for the waitlist omg.

I got an email from them to check the application portal.
How did you hear back from Brown?
I emailed because I am a giant pain. I just needed to know!
-
Welp, got my Brown rejection. Still waiting on Yale and UConn. UGH

I officially got rejected by Yale...Now I am waiting on Brown and Harvard. I hope they let us know by the end of the day today; the waiting is the worse part.
how did you hear from yale?

omg I literally just called and they said next week. SO CONFUSED. Waiting is awful, but I am so sorry you didn't get into Yale!

Welp, my Penn rejection was on Applyweb! The angst is over.

I called Yale and was told results were still being compiled, so don't stress!

Seems like all of my schools have notified at least the first round of acceptances...so I'm not holding my breath. I'll be on campus at Brown today, so I triple dawg dare them to notify me while I'm there. ha.
Does anyone know whether admission decisions are actually posted to ApplyWeb (I'm guessing under "View Checklist")? So far I haven't seen any decisions posted and am now wondering if my constant refreshing is misguided. My Brown app status says "Complete" and UPenn says "Ready to Review."
Hang in there! Fingers crossed for ev'rybodyyyy. These somewhat subjective admission decisions in no way should determine self-worth or intrinsic value. And don't despair: the job market is so terrible that not getting an acceptance may be dodging a bullet. Case in point: the campuses where I adjunct (I'm an English instructor w/ 2 masters degrees) are overwhelmed by PhD-wielding applicants right now, which is not a great sign.
Big congrats to everyone who has an offer this round.
We seem to have applied to many of the same schools. Penn English has been devastating

If you don't mind me asking, how did Uconn notify?

Not personalized. Very much a form acceptance through the portal.
YAYYAY Congrats.
Trying to not to puke as I constantly refresh my e-mail. omg.
-
Just to clarify, no admissions news has been sent out by Penn! I am taking a few courses in the department now (live in Philly) and a professor mentioned that they are waiting to send out.

Does that mean today?!?! I already feel like I’m going to throw up, and I wasn’t even factoring Penn in....
Probably not! I think most likely end of this week-early next week! Sorry- I didn't mean to make anyone more nervous!!!
-
Not sure if anybody else is waiting to hear from UConn, but I spoke to the DGS who informed me that we will find out decisions in 7-10 days (this was yesterday).
Also, I have gotten word that Penn has made their decisions and is awaiting final approval from the Dean before sending out. AH.
Are there repercussions for dropping out of a PhD program mid way through?

Not that I know of and I left half way through a Ph.D program. It's probably easiest for all to leave at the end of a semester if you can make it, but most people don't even have these kind of repercussions. Be honest with faculty that you like/work with and it should be easy to avoid burning bridges- I had faculty writing me letters, etc.
