I'm guessing not today. . . le sigh.
  2. Hey all! I posted this originally on the 2014-15 Fulbright thread and was re-directed here. I'm debating applying for a UK Fulbright. I applied last year during my senior year and was a finalist. This year, I started an MA/PhD program. While I will be completing an MA along the way, it is a very general MA that is not focused specifically on what I will do my dissertation on (British Empire, Trauma, and Violence). However, I found an amazing MA in the UK that would supplement my course work and give me unmatched research opportunities. Since i have to write an MA thesis for it, I figured that would help with conceptualizing my dissertation. Online, it says that bachelor, MA, and PhD applicants can apply (unless I'm misreading it). My main concern is trying to tell my advisor that I want to do a second, more focused MA. For my field, we don't have many research funded opportunities, at least not for international stuff and I'd like to complete more coursework. But I'm also wondering if I should just give up on this dream. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
  3. Hey all! I'm thinking of applying for a Fulbright next year (it would be my second time). I'm currently doing a PhD program and would be applying to do an MA in Cultural Studies and Theory (focusing on trauma and violence) at a UK university. Last year, when I applied, I was a finalist, but ultimately not selected. I see that people do get the grants and that MA and doctoral levels are allowed to apply. My main concern is approaching my advisor, who may not be receptive to me taking a year to do more research/intensive focus, but I feel like doing it before I hit dissertation phase allows me more exploration time and also more chances to apply. Does anyone have advice? Should I wait or does waiting look bad since I'll be further along in my current program?

I assume Friday or next week. I mean they may get the results Friday and then have to write up all the notifications

When do we think we'll hear?

I think they changed it. Idk if I'll email agai since I already did. They also didn't email me confirmation to I emailed asking about that too

The cost of a ticket will sky rocket if we don't hear soon (I think optimal buying time is about 90 days before). And considering the stipend for the intensive grant won't cover the full cost of airfare, you'd think they'd want to tell us sooner rather than later. I'm sure there's a bunch of admin they have to do though before they can release decisions.

Just wanted to say I hope the recital went well!

I assume we will hear tomorrow. If not, I'm tempted to email again, as it'll be after the end of March/early April expectation I was given. I really can't wait much longer to make summer arrangements, but I don't want to miss out on this opportunity!

Tomorrow it is. I think I finally stopped my incessant habit of email checking. So there's that.
  15. So from my understanding when I looked it up, if you started school in September of 2015 and were paid in September, the first installment of quarterly taxes would be January 15th of 2016. I think the logic is that they would not want you paying taxes on money you haven't received yet.

Is it bad I'm checking the DAAD FB page like mad to see if they announce that they are closed today like they did friday?!?!?!

It's ok! At least I'm not alone in the wait! Hopefully all three of us get good news next week. Even if it's a rejection for me, I'll be happy to just know at this point.

I'm a little confused. Do they have set release dates? Looking through past forums, it seems that they do it any day of the week (though if Monday is a holiday in Germany, they may close the office in the US).

Really? Maybe it is just where I'm from. Either way: hopefully next week! I guess I'll get back to reading and final papers. . .

Why is it closed?!?!?! Nothing closes for Good Friday in the US. NOTHING.

Oh! And to make matters worse: last year, someone got an email at 4.16pm. . . EST. . . guess we do have all day to wait!

Oh no worries! I mean, I'm sure it is possible that they fall behind, but I hope they don't!

I'm just saying, if they told me end of march/beginning of april, it should be this week or next week

I emailed about the intensive language one and they said end of march/early april. Two years ago, they heard March 1st, so I'm hopeful!

I had a dream last night that I didn't get it, so I'm assuming that is somehow a prediction of the future. Thus, I'm on to planning alternate summer plans. And eating chocolate. Because chocolate solves all my problems.
