Can we talk for a minute about how my Irvine status is waiting supplemental materials but then it lists all the supplemental materials are received and official? What the heck, Irvine. I know you're rejecting me, but still.

I'm really not holding out hope. It's high ranking and my mistake are probably not going to favor me, despite my love of the program. Good luck to everyone!

I am too but I messed up the app so I'm not holding my breath.

For number 1, most top tier programs (I'm talking 50 and up) require fluency in 1 or proficient in 2, so having something is good. As for publications, I have read in A LOT of places and have heard from many professors that is actually works against you. They want to be able to cultivate you. One or two might show potential but tons is bad. It is why they may be against accepting a lot of master students. As for three, pretty much all but Duke Lit and Emory and Baylor. From what I have seen.

Yeah. it is my second paper of this length. My other one was a 1 credit independent study.

Yeah my first chapter was my writing sample. Ours have to be MA thesis length. It is part of the requirement.

Yeah. Right now, I have about 50 pages written for my undergrad thesis. It'll be about 75 total and I'm really hoping to expand upon it for the MA and PhD dissertations.

I could totally be wrong too. Maybe some of the acceptances were off the waist list or something. I just thought they accepted a bit more (8 to 10), but I could be totally be wrong!! I know some schools accept like 4 people one year and then the next accept 10. It all depends. I think they want to drive us crazy. I'm pretty sure.

I want to say that is wrong. Based on last year, it seems unlikely. I mean, I doubt all those accepted were on grad cafe. But perhaps the 5 rule is true? Idk.

I'm just worried about the call dropping, you know? Or someone calling me and I pick up thinking it is them and then they call and somehow it is busy and what not. Gah. Nervousness.

Unless it is funded or you can fund it yourself, don't do it. Debt is never worth it.

I am a Victorianist, but I focus on the application of violence theory (Zizek, Galtung, Foucault) to the Victorian novel. I'm really intrigued lately with the idea of corsets/bodices and clothing as forms of institutionalized violence. So I see you got into Cambridge. That is pretty amazing! Congrats!

I applied to UVA and have not yet been rejected. I'm holding out hope that I made it to round 2 of the application cycle and that maybe an offer will be extended my way. Anyone else waiting and want to talk about the program, what made it appealing, potential faculty you want to work with? Or really just anything.

I studied at Oxford. The Alt Tuck shop just around the corner was amazing. I nearly died. I agree it is overpriced, but the food I had was always very good. Perhaps it is because I myself only ever cook with salt and pepper (some times cayenne) and therefore don't mind. I'm a meat and potatoes person, so that doesn't hurt either

I'm really excited. I didn't know any of the ranks of the programs I applied to when I applied and realizing all of them were top 50 was terrifying. I'm very happy to have been accepted at Tufts. I can't wait to get the official funding package and everything.

Is it weird to think we could hear back from almost all of our schools between this week and next? Then it is over. Completely over. Cannot handle this.

I'm pretty much freaking out over my interview. Nervous, excited, worry somehow I'll drop the call. I wish it was in person. You can't really lose cellphone service or anything like that. I'm also still waiting to hear back about my application to the school, which is nerve-wracking as well. Good luck to everyone!

I haven't heard from UVA yet. Really hoping to hear some good news from them tho!

My PhD Program deadline was on January 15th. I just heard back now, so maybe soon?
