  1. CONGRATS TO THE NYU PERSON! My official streak of staying off here is broken. Alas. But I want to say congrats
  2. Congrats to those who got in UCI!
  3. I think I might just email. That ways I don't have an awkward conversation when they are like, we didn't review it.
  4. Should I even bother calling Irvine at this point? Probably not...
  5. I know I didn't get into Irvine. My GRE report still isn't there despite sending it SO long ago. I'm pissed if that is why I get rejected. I guess I'll call tomorrow, but probably won't matter.
  6. I spent about 8 weeks preparing for the English subject test and did horribly. I mean, it didn't help the room was freezing and it was at 8am, but I'm not sure I'll ever do better.
  7. Well...I guess that delays our acceptances by a few weeks, but I'm patient
  8. Yeah, my friend's fiancé is German studying at Bonn and he is studying English. He had to do latin too. I feel bad, but I had to study German (or any language) for 4 semesters for my degree, so I think it just depends on UNI standards.
  9. Yeah they seem completely different and without a good model of comparison. It sounds interesting though
  10. So you would get an MA without getting a BA? But you'd take some undergrad courses? That is a bit different.
  11. Well after yesterday's bloodbath I'm kind of happy for a reprieve.
  12. What was difficult about your degree? I mean, I know German ones are a bit different, but it didn't seem to different to me when I was there.
  13. Depends how familiar they are with international applicants. I'd hate to have to write my own letter. Trying to differentiate my writing style and trying to write different things per recommender would freak me out. I mean, what if they realize they all sound similar? Are they supposed to? I heard people had to do this for affiliation letters for fellowships and I was so happy I did not have to.
  14. Generally. Not always. But generally. I've always been told that anyways. You usually send a rec request and the request will let the professor know if you waived it or not. I think it is an honesty thing. But I'm sure it is different for you, since as you said, that isn't normal in Germany.
  15. NO! It is totally against the rules here. Professors write them and submit them without our reading them. We have to waive our right to view them or programs will generally view it negatively. It is probably because they think if we see them it will affect the honesty of the letter/recommender.
  16. When people say "good LOR" on the form, what do they mean? I thought we weren't allowed to look at our LOR, unless they mean written by well-known faculty, but even then, how would they know? Or do they assume? Just curious. I've always wanted to know what my profs wrote about me but I'll never know. *frowns*
  17. I've decided that all of us on hear who applied to UVA, NYU, and/or UChicago will find out we all got in tomorrow. Roughly around 2pm. Because that is what would make me happiest.
  18. I've been checking UVA's application site like crazy and my status hasn't changed...gah!
  19. I'm hitting this point with UVA where I'm like, just reject me because hoping for your awesomeness is just too much because I know you'll reject me and I'll be so sad. I know it is silly, because they just started notifying today, but still...
  20. Yeah that is pretty much it. I'm convinced no one wants me, so waiting is terrible.
  21. Having not heard back yet form UVA, idk how to feel....good, bad? do they normally do rejections all at once? Gah!
  22. Can you imagine asking the same profs for 28 recs? My god. They'd kill me.
  23. You too! Maybe we will both get in!!!!
