  1. Thank you so much! I definitely think it was the best I was going to do, but I'm certain there is always room for improvement!
  2. My professors told me I was writing something new and original too the field, so I'm hoping that is good, but idk.
  3. I used a paper I wrote for my junior year English majors course on imprisonment in Jane Eyre, but I expanded it and am using it for a thesis chapter. I had two very good professors who helped me revise and avoid making it sound too undergrad-y (there's no good adjective for what I'm thinking of). I did use a lot of theory, but my analysis of the text was also very heavy. I'm just worried it isn't as intriguing as I thought it was.
  4. Omg, the subject score...I didn't want to submit it to the schools that did require it, it was so bad. Then again, I found it weird that my test had latin on it, but w/e.
  5. I honestly hate the general GRE system. I really don't understand what it tells schools that our writing samples couldn't. I mean, a researched paper would include abilities to read, understand, and utilize secondary sources within our own well-formed argument. Which is pretty much what the GRE tests for verbal and writing. I mean, I know very few schools that care about the math unless calculated into an overall 310 and up figure.
  6. I heard that NYU is going to be notifying this coming week. I really thought I wouldn't be hearing back from anyone until Mid-February. Needless to say, having the one rejection so far and learning I can find out at any time has destroyed any peace of mind I had! Good luck and best wishes to everyone in the coming weeks!
  7. So if I get this, I will be the Kermit the frog gif where he freaks out. Anyone else thinking of what their reaction would be?
  8. Is anyone applying to graduate school as well as the Fulbright? Obviously, my first choice would be the Fulbright, but if we aren't finding out until possibly May or June, are people worried about accepting a grad program then finding out they got it?
  9. I am a w and was rejected yesterday
  10. I think if I had an acceptance before the Duke disaster of 2014, I would have been less frightened. However, I only have a nom for a fellowship abroad and that is it. Nothing concrete. That is scary.
  11. Does anyone know the procedure for interviews? I have information that makes getting an interview seem bad (only given when excess info is needed) but when I checked the UK-US website, it seemed to imply not getting one was a sign that applicants don't move to the next round. Kind of confusing.
  12. I was also rejected from Duke. crushing.
  13. I'd go into bio-archeaology. It'd require more schooling (1 year) but that's what I'd do.
  14. YUP! I think I fit best in that program, but I'm worried about my writing sample. My december version was good, but the one I submitted in January was way better. It is a dream and reach, but I'll survive.
  15. I should change my name to Duke obsessed. Someone got an email today. Hope? No. Denial? Yes.
  16. My best friend lives in Bonn so I've been there a few times. I love the Schokolade Museum! Still working on my German tho
  17. On the topic of waitlists, what happens if you get accepted into University A, accept, but then University B (dream school) takes you off the waitlist? Is it possible to switch? I realize it is probably rude for Uni A, but I'm curious what happens.
  18. I found a program I loved then wrote to a faculty member within it. I had absolutely no contacts within that university, so in my email, I simply stated what I was applying for, what I hoped to research, why I was interested in her research, and asked if she would be willing to discuss potential sponsorship. I was like in that she responded within ten minutes stating she'd love to sponsor me. I then sent my CV, a draft of my SOP and PS and asked if she needed anything else. I really recommend asking early, as I know others had to ask a few before someone agreed.
  19. Thank you! I was worried I would drop it, but I did that once and apple still fixed it so Applecare it is.
  20. Oh well. It looks like today or maybe tomorrow would be the last day of good notifications. I was really hoping it would be in february.
  21. I was looking through the results page again (god I need to not be obsessed with this site) and there were some ppl notified the 5th and some notified the 10th and both were acceptances, so perhaps it isn't as clear cut as we thought?
  22. "App Blackout period" is now my new favorite phrase. Mine lasted from september to january 8th and I really hope I never have to go through it again until job hunting! Also, another Duke acceptance is up on the results. I'm so sad
  23. English (at least I am)
  24. Oh no! I lied. It is your username/password. I confused it with NYU. I'm sorry!
