  1. Hi! I'm an NYU undergrad and I know it is very competitive, especially recently since the medical center was damaged during hurricane sandy. I do know people who have gotten in, but I also know others, like myself, who did not get in. It's definitely worth applying to though - I've heard it's an amazing experience.

  3. Just got a call from a student ambassador - interview will be 10-15 minutes long and we have a chance to ask questions during our interview so doesn't sound too formal! We will also get a chance to chat with graduate students, tour the clinic, and maybe tour the campus. Good luck everyone!!
  4. I stumbled across a brand new SLP program at Yeshiva University in NYC. There doesn't seem to be an application deadline (so maybe rolling admissions?) and no sign of accreditation status. Has anyone heard anything about this program other than what's already on the website? https://yu.edu/academics/graduate-arts-sciences/speech-language-pathology/
  5. If you have any interest in research, you should definitely look into that. Any work experience with children, the elderly, or individuals with disabilities both looks great on your resume and will be excellent preparation for your future. Some ideas are babysitting or tutoring. Also join NSSLHA if your school has it!
  6. I would say a 3.5 is a good GPA and many schools will focus on your last 60 hours or look at the overall trends in your grades. Research experience is not necessary I don't think, since research is not for everyone. I'm sure any volunteering is good and you can use your gap year (along with any free time this semester) to gain even more experience in the field!
  7. I applied via the Emerson website.
  8. I was in the middle of a class debate and decided to glance at my phone during a quick minute break. The rest of the debate the other side's arguments went completely over my head and I couldn't stop smiling
  9. I know that for Emerson, they notified some students before others. They may still be notifying - not really sure. Best bet is to call the school directly and ask.
  10. I agree with you. While only one of my schools required CSDCAS, the school itself also made it very clear to get in all materials 3-4 weeks prior to the deadline.
  11. Got my email as well - super excited to plan my trip to Boston! Wish we had more details but still really excited. I actually spoke to admissions again today and the guy said I'd be getting a phone call sometime next week with more information and that the CSD department is still updating admissions with more interviewees so if you didn't get one yet there is still hope!! P.S. Someone please let me know if you find a good deal for hotels in Boston.. not looking to break my wallet haha
  12. One of my essays just had a big red X through it haha
  13. I had a dream I got accepted to a program but then "woke up" within my dream and realized I did not get accepted (so I was dreaming within a dream). As I'm still dreaming, I got rejected except it was not just a rejection letter but my application was graded in test format and I scored a 17 out of 41 on my application.
  14. They said an email would go out with more info today but I got nothing hopefully we'll get something by the end of this week!
  15. Most programs I've researched have 5 semesters of clinic, so even if you don't have to take academic classes for a semester it is likely you'll need to take the standard 2 years to graduate. I'm sure every program is different though, and I'm sure there's exceptions! I am also wondering - how were you able to take those graduate level courses?

  17. I applied pretty early so it's possible they didn't update the portal for everyone yet. Hang in there! And that last line I found here: http://www.emerson.edu/admission/graduate-admission/apply
  18. Nope - which is why I'm calling on Monday to confirm
  19. Just checked my credential status on the Emerson portal - found a new credential added called "CD Interview Time" and under comments it gives a date and time at the end of February. Did anyone else get this? For those of you who haven't been to the portal, you can find it here: http://www.emerson.edu/admission/portal Does anyone know anything about interviews with Emerson? I've researched all I can about Emerson and even visited the campus back in July. I don't remember hearing anything about an interview. (Also, I'm glad I decided to check my status in the middle of the night because now I don't know if I'll be able to go back to sleep.... haha) UPDATE: Guess I have poor memory. I just found on their admissions FAQs that: "Highly qualified candidates will be invited to the campus for an interview during the last two weeks of February. Candidates will meet individually with two members of the faculty. On campus interviews are highly encouraged, but Skype interviews are available for those applicants who are unable to travel to campus. Candidates will receive invitations to interview in the first week of February 2014. Interviews will be held February 21-23, 2014." However, I did not receive any email from them so I will call on Monday to see what they say, but it looks like I'm heading up to Boston in a few weeks!
  20. Glad to hear I'm not alone. Luckily many programs understand that freshman year is a transition period and is often not representative of who we are today and if not I made that very clear in my SOP haha

  23. I had a question that was also not speech related. The faculty said they wanted to get to know the applicants in a different way. If speech is your answer then I'm sure that's great, but I bet they'd love to get to know who you are outside of speech! Is this your only essay for Kean, or is this just one of a couple? If it was your only essay, I'd be more hesitant to make it non-speech related but I'd try asking the faculty (anonymously over the phone lol) if there is something in particular they are looking for or if it's mainly to get to know you

  25. It really depends on the school! I know some schools I'm applying to will accept my astronomy course and some will not. I've decided to wait until I know where I'm going and then take physics over the summer or in grad school if necessary.
