Congratulations everyone! If anyone has specific questions about Montclair, feel free to ask me. I'm currently in my second semester of the program.

I've had my Mac since 2010 and have not had any problems with it as of yet. My cohort is split about 50/50 with Macs and PCs, so it really is a matter of personal preference. I have the SALT 2012 CD and Praat on my computer and they both work just fine. If you plan on bringing your laptop to school, I would consider purchasing a lightweight computer. A fast processor is also very helpful. Purchase what makes you comfortable!

I currently attend the program at Montclair and have observed SLP's in various settings around the state. Although Montclair has a "lower" ranking in this report, it is one of the most reputable programs in the state. The students in my program rarely have trouble getting externship placements because we are known to be extremely well-prepared to work in the field. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first semester at Montclair and feel very prepared to begin clinic in the spring. I applied to twelve schools last year and was accepted to seven of them. Montclair stood out as the best choice for me. If I had chosen my school based on the rankings alone, I would have missed out on the great academic experience that I am receiving.

I agree with @NorcalSLP. According to the ASHA guidelines, providing services without a license is not allowed. It may affect your ability to obtain licensure in the future. Campus clinical services tend to be more cost-effective for families. Best of luck, @Sintapikka!

My mom and grandma came with me on prospective tours at the University of Maryland, Towson, and Loyola. My mom was with me on prospective tours of Boston University, Emerson College, Northeastern University, and the University of Rhode Island. We made trips out of all of those visits and I did not want them to stay alone in the hotel rooms. My mom also came with me to my interview at Boston University. She didn't come into the interview room with me, of course, but I was recovering from foot surgery at the time so it was helpful to have her there. There weren't any issues caused by their presence. They even asked questions, but I was sure to be more vocal than them during each visit to show personal interest. I think all of your e-mail options are fine!

Thank you Greyhound111! I was just thinking. I was accepted on April 22. The dean said that my packet was being mailed that day and I had ten days to submit an electronic deposit if I planned to attend. I haven't received the packet yet, but that would mean that the deposit is due on May 2. Maybe that will be when the next wave of acceptances is sent out.

My dream was lofty, but I wasn't too far off! I was accepted to at least one in-state and one out-of-state school, so my hope and guess both were true. I was accepted by six schools, waitlisted at five schools, and rejected by one school. Only one of my waitlists informed me that the waitlist has closed and I did not receive an offer, so that leaves four that I still need to hear back from. I received an offer for a half graduate assistantship and funding at URI, which I declined (very painfully), and an offer to interview for a full graduate assistantship at Montclair State University. I don't know how I got so lucky, but I couldn't have pulled through this long winter without all of the support from you guys!

I already accepted another offer as well, at Montclair State University. I think this will be the case for a lot of their acceptees! They waited so long to send out their decisions. No problem!

My out-of-major GPA for my freshman and sophomore years in the Honors Program at Montclair State University was 3.65. I transferred to Stockton to major in speech pathology and currently have a GPA of 3.94. I took the GRE twice and my highest scores were 155 verbal, 153 quantitative, and 4.0 analytical writing. I had four strong letters of recommendation from speech/linguistics professors at Stockton, which I sent to various schools depending on deadlines and requirements. My resumé is packed with related experience and observation hours. I also have a very strong personal statement that tells my story and explains my best qualities but still answers all of the questions that admissions panels may want to know about me. I applied to twelve schools because I didn't expect to get in anywhere, and receiving so many offers was a bit shocking. In the end, it's about how well you match up with the schools that you are applying to. I really did my research for each school and tailored my personal statements to prove that I knew specific details about the schools and faculties, their research and clinical focuses, and the opportunities that they have available. I think that including this information and relating it all to myself and my interests made me seem like a good fit at each school, which is why I received so many admission offers, interviews, and wait list seats. I had an amazing offer from the University of Rhode Island. It took me four hours to send an e-mail of declination, and about 90% of that time was spent with me hovering my mouse over the send button. In the end, many of us can't make a "wrong" decision. You will make the most of your education wherever you choose. Weigh your options and go with your gut.

I was also wait listed. According to the letter, it's a "short" wait list. I can't understand why it took so long for them to reach a decision.

I noticed that too, which seemed a bit odd, considering that the majority of Boston is so reliant on public transportation. When I visited Northeastern, I had a great campus tour led by an ambassador, but I did not get the same positive vibes when I visited the clinic. In my opinion, they were not as welcoming as the programs at Emerson and Boston University. That's just subjective, of course. I'm still waiting to hear back from them.

I will be attending Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey! 1) I completed my first two years of undergrad there and absolutely loved the school 2) I am already familiar with the local area, where I would like to live and practice one day 3) It is one of the most reputable programs in the state 4) In-state tuition won't break my bank 5) Their clinic is absolutely beautiful and conducive to experiential learning 6) The current graduate students and faculty have been more than welcoming and supportive 7) I really enjoy the small cohort style of the program 8) I've been offered an interview for a Graduate Assistantship 9) Their course offerings focus on all settings and populations, and will give me a well-rounded education 10) I have the opportunity to complete my externships at local facilities where I have already begun to develop relationships with clinicians It feels great to be a Red Hawk again!
