  1. It's hard to keep optimism, no matter how much you prepare yourself for realistic outcomes such as getting rejected, it somehow always creeps the tears out of you. It happened to me on Friday, I checked my mail and got 2 rejections. It feels like a waste of time and money but I cried for a little bit and began on my optimistic path once more.
  2. Hey autismadvocate CONGRATULATIONS!! Sorry for the late reply but you really deserved it!! I hope your Dad and sister are proud of you and that you celebrate this amazing time with them!
  3. Now I'm wondering why my professor would embed in our heads not to go to a non-accredited schools? Are there any consequences taking courses at a non accredited. I agree with you mheroux, molloy will be reviewed again in 2015 bc their five years are up in 2016. Maybe they will be accredited in 2016.
  4. This was the email. I dont take it for anything just to see if I was interested. Thank you for submitting an application for admission to graduate studies at Brooklyn College. Please note that if you would like to be considered for a scholarship you must complete the scholarship application by Wednesday, March 13th. You may go ahead and apply even if you have not yet received an admission decision. To review the application guidelines and to apply online, please visit the Scholarships website at www.brooklyn.cuny.edu/scholarships. Sorry I keep editing but I have gmail and I found it in my "promotions" file
  5. The CUNYs always make me nervous, my heart fell out of my chest when I saw Brooklyn college sending me an email about scholarship opportunities. Did anyone else get that email?
  6. I know right? It seems pretty cool but I felt bad for not making one for my professor earlier when she was starting my letters of recommendations because I was so tight on cash with all the application fees that I just wanted to get everything in on time. I'm hesitant to do it but I feel so embarrassed asking for letters of recs all the time since I made her fill out like 8..loll Totally agree with you about bothering the professors, writing a letter must be tiring enough but 8 letters I felt I was pushing it. Thank God she was so nice about it, although I felt examined when getting them like I was being evaluated..loll w/e They have a 3 year plan so I think I might go with that one, just in case if anything I don't have to constantly bombard them asking for letters. Thanks for the advice
  7. If I don't get accepted this year, I'll definitely apply next year. I mean seriously, what's the deal with accreditation anyways, will ASHA not give us our licenses if its not accredited? ALSO zball6986, how was the Brooklyn interview, did the graduate director interview you and was it a group interview? Did you feel rushed off since there might have been other applicants that had to be interviewed?(Gosh I hate group interviews, they remind me of new born puppies swarming to get their mother's milk instead it's just getting the spotlight with the interviewer..loll)
  8. Got my ashes yesterday, I've been working so much that I forgot how much I miss Church. Glad I went

Does grad school make going to church harder? I wonder about that because church is so important to me. It is like my safe place, the idea of find a new church kind of scares me.

@junotwest I'm a Catholic but I think it's nice even if your not Catholic to enjoy the spirit and atmosphere of others having faith. I work with a bunch of Jewish kids and I love when they include me in their holidays and they are inquisitive about my religion. It's a really cute cultural exchange.

@LittleDarlings loll I'm not in grad school yet, I work as a tutor for 12 kids (I know I shouldn't have taken on twelve but I just wanna help everyone as much as I can)I have a Jewish clientele and I have to work on Sundays, unless I make that 7 am mass..loll You shouldn't be scared of going to another church, we all go for one reason, to give thanks to God<3 bc the Lord knows how much I need help getting into grad school..loll

  9. Hey, I saw a lot of admittances to Molloy College, I don't know too much about the school, but the only thing I do know is that it's not accredited but a candidate. I would have applied to this school but all I can think about is my former 90 year old professor wagging his finger at me every time I even think about applying to a non-accredited school. Is it that they might become accredited when the class of 2016 graduate?
  10. Hey guys, I know everyone might think why am I asking this so now late in the game but I just want to be prepared for the worst while also hoping for the best. My professor suggested that I use interfolio but every time I go on the website, I don't know which plan to pick. Can anyone give me some feedback as to which plan they used? Thinking about applying to an accelerated graduate program (not speech) at my former school just so if I don't get accepted to a speech program, I will occupy myself with something. MUCHOS GRACIAS!!
  11. Loll I had a dream that I was in my old job at the bakery, and Cher came into the store and said,"hey where yah been, I miss you making my coffee. " I was so flattered that I was like," Cher I miss making your coffee too but I've been busy." She was like,"Don't worry I wrote you a letter of recommendation. " I'm not sure why but I thought I could get into any grad program with Cher's letter meanwhile I don't even listen to Cher. It can only mean one thing, I'm meant to meet Cher and ask her for a letter. ..Lmao Jk Btw congrats PsychD, I saw your acceptances!!
  12. Not baby their students, but that she said they're not close with their graduate students. The student that said this is a bit of an over-achiever, so I don't know if it's maybe her that's not connecting with the professors. Personally I'm in a position where I don't care, I just want to get accepted into St.John's. I went there and I remember the faculty was very inviting.
  13. You know when you give a girl too many options she never gets things done, loll I feel like a kid in a candy store. I plan to make a website about learning disabilities, something I can share with parents that struggle with their kids and feel like no on is on their side. I'm all for that....and then there's making a website about my hobby which is graphic novels/comics loll I love drawing and entertaining.. Once I'm done with the website I'll definitely be sharing it with you. I was checking out your website right now and I was in shock when a host infantized her questions to the teen with autism. You got some really good stuff going on there
  14. OMGosh autismadvocate I love this website, I'm making one right now. I like your DIY thinking!!
  15. I agree, great topic. These are the things I personally know and things I have heard from other graduates -Mercy College: I knew someone and they loved it, I remember she said she didn't have a stellar GPA but she graduated and found employment quick. -CUNY Hunter: I went to an open house two years ago, and loll I definitely knew I wasn't going to apply to their school. They are extremely rigorous and accept a small number of students. They do not have an undergrad for Speech and Language. I remember the director telling a story of how they accepted a student who got a touching letter from her employer that didn't know anything about speech but gave an awesome LOR -St. Johns: The graduate director there is tough as nails but she is considered one of the best audiologists. A graduate student I met up with recently says the faculty still treats students like undergrads and not graduate students, but idk I liked St.John's when I went there. That stuff didn't matter to me. -Touro College: I don't know how competitive their program is but everyone says it's easier to get into. I think when people say that, they're talking about the undergrad programs offered at Touro College. I heard it's pretty expensive too. Well that's everything I know about the schools. I would like to know about Brooklyn College and St.Rose though
  16. Reluctantly studying for my GREs again. NOOOOoooo save me!!!

Indeed I did apply, but I'm nervous about not getting accepted bc of my 3.2 GPA. The only reason I'm studying for the GRE again :( is because a school that I applied to made a point in their email (an email confirming my application was complete), they said everything is pretty much set in stone, the only thing I could change is my GRE scores during the application process. But I just wanna keep everything fresh in my head before I Netflix rots my brain..lmaooo

Haha I'm taking it slow, but between study sessions I watch mad men..loll

  17. I hear yah, I also have a loan from St. John's University. I did my freshman year there but then realized that it would be better to get my undergrad in speech at a CUNY and pay the big bucks for graduate school. I finished my undergraduate in Queens College, its so funny but when I spoke to the graduate director at Lehman, he was like don't even think about applying to Queens, they think they're "elite"..lmaooo I loved Queens College but their program is wayyyyyyyyyy too competitive
  18. Makes sense, I just hate waking up everyday and not seeing an email. :(Are you only applying to CUNYs and have you done your undergrad at cuny?
  19. Same here, do you know if these schools go on a rolling basis. It seems like Brooklyn college is like that from the admission results. I wonder what goes on in those interviews : /
  20. I would do it especially if they don't hold interviews or open houses. Did you previously attend this school, I'm assuming so since you're going to call one of your professors. I think this opportunity will give the faculty a chance to attach a face to an application. Maybe you can personally talk to speech graduate advisors and ask them what they look for in a candidate; which part of the application holds the most weight. I know when I went to an open house for Lehman college, the graduate director told me if I didn't have a stellar GPA, that I should do well on my GREs particularly the writing section. Before making the trip I would definitely set up an appointment or see if they have walk in hours just so you don't make the travel in vain.
  21. Imagine if there was an eharmony for graduate schools...haha

  22. Congratulations zball6986!! You must be on cloud 9 right now .... Hahaha i just wanna ask if you mind sharing your stats and when you sent in your application? Congrats again
  23. DREAM- getting accepted to schools nearby, I really love working with my students and I've grown so attached to them, it makes me sad thinking I might have to go out of state. I will feel like a parent missing their "firsts" HOPE- I hope by this time next year, I am more content with my decisions, that if I have not been accepted to grad school for speech, I will not take it to heart and always keep trying. So cliché but I'd figure it happened for a reason and not because I wasn't worthy of an applicant. GUESS- I guess I have no choice but to wait!!!loll life wouldn't be meaningful if we knew everything. I'm kind of a spiritual person, so whatever God throws my way, I'd accept it but hope it doesn't drive me nuts. :rolleyes:haha
