  1. I thought being an RA as well as agreeing to do work for another prof would be time consuming, but both have not been nearly as demanding as I thought. It's been incredibly difficult to stay motivated. I turned in a paper last night that was just the crappiest thing ever, but luckily it was only 10% of my grade. On the plus side, having more time to lounge means more time to hang out with my housemates and the bff. We're all headed to different places after college, so I want to get all the chill time I can. Don't underestimate friend time.
  2. Start a time-consuming and difficult craft. Refuse to give up. I'm on the Netflix route myself, but I'm slowly running out of shows I want to watch. Time for some rewatching! Also, naps.
  3. Only one school left to hear from. What will I agonize over when it's all said and done?

In the same boat my friend. It sucks more given that, that one school is my top choice.

Ugh. We all need a group hug.

  4. Was accepted to UVA's Master's program for Educational Psych. Not too shabby.

Thanks. Weavile's my fave ;) I also like yours too.

  5. Attended an event for future STEM students at my school. Oh to be young again!

  6. I don't know much about the programs, but I am currently at UNC for undergrad, and I've heard many people say that as far as location, Charlottesville,VA is very much like Chapel Hill. I went on a bit in the CH City Guide thread, but most everything in Chapel Hill/Carrboro is very close and very college town~
  7. I agree with above. I was accepted to UT Austin for Educational Psych without an interview, but I am pretty sure they don't interview at all.
  8. You're mom thinks you're a star! Of course she wanted you to get in everywhere. If you already have numerous acceptances, there's really not much to tell her other than "Mom, I have plenty of other choices. Very few people get into every school they apply to." If your mom is like mine, any discussion of grad school makes her weepy, so I just settle for a "Ma. You knew this was coming. It'll be fine." And then my mom cries about how as soon as she knows I'm happy she'll be free to die, but ya know, some moms are more dramatic than others.
  9. I have one prof right now that is "Dr.P" to me, but her graduate students call her by her first name. I definitely still get the wiggles from it, so I'd probably use their formal title. However, most times what actually happens is I just never call them by name when we're in person and avoid the issue entirely.
  10. I think more people follow the "fake it til you make it" philosophy than you might think. It's a process, and one day you'll realize you actually do know a thing or two. Chin up!
  11. Someone must have received multiple rejections at once because one said "I'm an idiot" and the next "I'm still an idiot!"
  12. I applied for Educational Psych, which is actually through Curry. I talked to my POI back in October I think, and she was really nice. Unfortunately, though I applied for the Ph.d I was deferred to the Masters, which kind of makes my decision for me, but I've still only heard good things about UVA.
  13. It's something! Thanks.
  14. So I've seen a few UC Berkeley Psychology admits and maybe one or two Social Psych ones, which is where I applied. Given that I was not called for an interview, I am seriously confused as to why I haven't just been outright rejected yet....Same with University of Washington.
  15. Maaaaaaaan, don't say stuff like this to me. haha. I hope I'm in the same group as your friend.
  16. I'm just confused about schools that have had interviews that I wasn't invited to, yet have not rejected me. I assume it's coming but I'm not sure why it is taking so long.
  17. As little as possible, hopefully. I've spent the last three summers crammed in a tiny kitchen, making chicken tenders and fries with 99 degree temps inside, so my desire to go back is nonexistent. Maybe I'll actually have the energy to work out, read a book, learn how to braid my own hair without looking dumb. The little things~ My father is pushing me to move to where I'm going to be for grad school maybe early July and just stay in someone's summer sublet. That way I can get used to the town and not have to decide on an apartment sight unseen. I'm not sure though. I was in state to undergrad so taking a leap of faith like that still sits uneasy with me, but maybe by July I'll be more than ready to leave.
  18. If I never study Marx again after this year it'll be too soon.

  19. No all-nighters here either. I'm definitely one of the "I'll take the lower grade" crowd. Also, I can't seem to sleep in ever, so even if I go to bed at 4am, I will wake up at 8am and trying to force myself back to sleep just results in a headache. This has led me to cherish my working hours when I need them and give in to sleepiness when it comes. I've been consistently on this schedule through high school and undergrad, so at least it's reliable! I'm not sure how I would handle an all-nighter at this rate anyway.
  20. "Check website in 2 weeks for funding info." More like every 2 hours.

  21. So on my Housing tab it links to the Applying to Live on Campus page, and on there it says that you can apply for housing when you apply for admission and everything has been received for your application, so I think it's just part of the process of being an applicant. It's confusing that it's all under the Freshman tab, but if you log in it has the option to choose on-campus graduate housing. I was going to double check the UT admissions FAQ, but I didn't interview and was still accepted into the HDCLS program in the College of Education. However, the page isn't loading so I can't verify if there are no interviews at all for UT or just one program in particular. Sorry! Don't give up hope though!
  22. I didn't interview for one school, so I asked to be put in contact with a grad student so I could pick their brain about the program. I figure they have less at stake and may be more casual and open about everything, but I definitely plan on asking someone higher up if there is any uncertainty.
  23. I'm not sure there's an official timeline, but are you sure the school is sending a letter? I logged into my student account for one school and there was a place to print the letter because they don't actually send a physical copy. I doubt they suddenly decided not to admit you if they had already said otherwise.
  24. Thank you very much! That's a big comfort. If you have any secret info or advice for newbies to Austin, please share.
  25. If only I could go to the committee deciding my funding and say, "you know what's nice? Not being poor", drop the mic, and leave.
