One acceptance is still an accomplishment! I am still dying to hear back from my program, it is killing me! Lol besides my ROSI status hasn't changed so it's not giving me a positive feeling about my chances
-
Yea I personally find that the courseload in the social work programs just don't pique my interest as much as the counselling psych program does. If I don't get into the oise counselling program this year, I may open my mind up to social work programs. Although I would've LOVED to pursue thesis based programs, my grades are just not competitive enough
-
Aww so sorry to hear! but at least now you have some clarity as to where you're headed, you have the acceptance from UWO I'm sure you'll do well in that program!
-
I used to know someone in the clinical program a few years back and she had said that the POI usually calls and briefly chats with the applicant (I guess like an informal interview) they've accepted. I guess it makes sense because they're going to be working closely with this person so they'd like to get to know them I suppose But I'm wondering if they call M.Ed applicants too? Or just mail them all..
-
Yea I can imagine he must be swamped with all the emails from applicants, that's why I got my questions answered during the summer when he might not have been so busy And that sucks that they've already contacted the accepted applicants so now the ones who are rejected must pretty much just wait for the letter (congrats to those who got in though!) Now I'm getting even more scared to wait 2 weeks to get my response from them!!
-
Awh yea it is such a competitive program! So I wouldn't beat myself up too much about it. They don't only look at qualifications but also how well you'd work with the faculty supervisors and if you're a good fit with them. I wonder if this means they have started mailing out the decision letters! I haven't seen anything on rosi either so I'm getting a bad feeling
-
Does anyone know if there are students who have transferred from M.Ed to the MA program? I know on their website it says they usually don't do transfers between those two programs but I was just curious...
-
You scared me! Lol but the same thing happened to me about a month ago when I saw a small white envelope from UofT and starting panicking as I was opening it, only to find that it was a letter about the credit card they offer for UofT alumni
-
Lol everytime I see a small white envelope in my mailbox, I panic for a fraction of a second thinking it could be a rejection letter from oise but it just ends up being my credit card bill or something
-
Lol it'd be nice if they emailed because you'd know in an instant! Yea I've heard about the ROSI thing from previous/other forums but I'm not sure thats reliable. Some people were saying that their status on Rosi said "invited" but others were saying that it doesn't necessarily mean you're in, so who knows. Nevertheless, I still check my Rosi....just in case lol
-
Just curious, does oise simply mail the admission results or would they email it out? (my rejection email from uwo got me wondering...lol)
-
Well it was a last minute decision for my to apply to grad schools but I'm only waiting from UofT. I wasn't planning on starting my Masters this year and was hoping to keep working for at least another year but figured I'd apply and see what happens anyway lol I know my chances of getting in with only having applied to two schools are slim but its nice to get into the application process to know what to expect the next time around
-
Oh, I'm not surprised because I had got in touch with Dr. Jeffe shortly after applying. I emailed him twice and the second time he simply responded saying that he'd be happy to chat with me if I got accepted into the program lol
-
Aww sorry that you didn't get to go to the interview but at least you know they see potential in you as a candidate Did you get in touch with the professor before or after you were invited for an interview?
-
I just got the rejection email today- it was a pretty generic one stating that they had a large number of applicants and only a few spots to offer. They had the interviews first week of March but I never went through the interview process so thats all I can help you with
-
Just curious Djenbot, do you know which professor you will be working with if you accept UWO's offer? You can PM it to me if you don't want to post it here. I'd have loved to work with Dr. Pete Jeffe!
-
To answer Syedahum's question, I spent the last two years working full time at the Sexual Assault Centre (in two different positions) lol I don't want to give out too much publicly but I can PM you and tell you more?
-
Djenbot might be right, I was thinking of other schools where they recommend getting in touch with profs! But don't worry if you already contacted profs, I imagine they get a ton of emails from applicants so they are likely not going to remember everyone that emailed them and weren't supposed to. Actually Djenbot, I was curious as to your CAMH experience too lol but you can PM me if you feel comfortable
-
Oh also, did you end up getting in touch with any of the profs you wanted to work with? I know a lot of people have suggested that it is a good idea to touch base with them
-
Well its just the impression that I have and I may be completely wrong so lets not fret about that. Besides, you seem to have pretty strong GPA for your last 10 credits so you do have a great chance. I would think they'd like to see research potential in the student as well. Awh that sucks that we cant contact the department to know more... I wish I had kept my rejection letter from 2 years ago to remember what it had said lol I had got pretty sad so it was shredded to pieces and into the garbage
-
Aww thanks *blush* Yea the impression I get is that they weigh more strongly on academics for the thesis-based program (MA) and more so on practical/counseling experience for the M.Ed. Thats why I was worrying a bit about my GPA. So if I don't get in I'm wondering if we can get in touch with the department to get more detailed feedback? Just to see where other applicants may have ranked higher? Not sure if they'd be open to that
-
Lol you guys must have really good academic records! No wonder one of you got into Western! Ok so my last 10 credits is 3.5 but my sGPA is about 2.7 or 2.8 I think. I'm not sure what you meant by subject GPA? My research experience is an independent research project in cognitive neuroscience which completed in publication (which I got to co-author with two of my profs) and an RA for a year. My counselling related experience is working as an invigilator for the AccessAbility Resource Centre for 2 years and volunteer/work positions at a Sexual Assault Centre (Volunteer, Crisis line program assistant, overnight therapist). I am also a member with the Ontario College of Counselors, Consultants, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists. Apart from that I've done a few independent workshops in CBT, CPT and narrative therapy. Although keep in mind i've applied for the M.Ed and not the MA so my research experience may not be so relevant. I also think my personal statement was very strong but that can be subjective so who knows
-
I saw that post with the MA acceptance too! Lol good to know I'm not the only one obsessively checking Though I did get a rejection from Western a few hours ago for the MA program in counselling psych This is making me even more restless for Uoft! Sigh I wonder if the acceptances for oise go out before the rejection letters/emails?
-
Oh, yea I figured it'd be the last 10 half credits though I've applied for the M.Ed and not the MA - I'm an international student and I know the chances for an international student getting into a funded program are next to none I am also curious as to how many students (if at all) they accept for part time studies...
-
I had applied back in 2011 for Fall 2012 and I remember only hearing back from them around beginning of April. And yes they do seem to have pretty strict guidelines and standards, I've known of people who had stellar grades/experience and did not make it Btw, does anyone know how they average your final year grades? I believe its last 10 courses or last 5 credits? I know its a bit late to be worrying about this lol but I was just curious!
