  1. There was one Cornell acceptance reported last year on Feb 4, then a lot of results on Feb 8 and Feb 9. So I'm guessing you'll see a similar timeline this year.

  4. I had one Embark application too and there wasn't a place there to check the status. The school had a separate site for that.

  7. This is good. There's something about your application that caught his eye - it sounds like he wants to interview you. Just be prepared to talk about anything on your application that he could ask about and to ask him a few questions about his research and the program. Best of luck!
  8. I agree with what's been said - continue with the job interviews you're interested in, without telling them you may be going to grad school. The first rounds of job interviews are likely screening, as someone said above. If they like you, they'll ask you for a second interview. By the time it gets to the point of them offering you a job, if it does get to that point, then you'll have a lot more information about where you stand with grad school. All the best.
  9. That's a scary thought I really doubt they do that though.

  12. Just make sure you're prepared for a phone call. Seems like he wants to interview you.
  13. Your prof has your best interest at heart and if you trust him, then listen to what he says. Academics don't go around calling colleagues crazy or badmouthing them like that, so not knowing anything else about the situation, your prof's comments would be a huge, glaring red flag.
  14. The only thing that's keeping me sane is that from last year's results the schools I applied to aren't likely to send out any admits until mid February at the earliest. I'm going to be a mess when that time comes around
  15. It really depends. Some schools only send out one round of acceptances and then send out batch rejects later on. Others have more than one round of acceptances. What you can do is look on the gradcafe survey results from last year for the programs you applied to - that'll give you an idea if your schools tend to only send out 1 round of acceptances.
  16. The link has been posted here before but not the article - that was an interesting read in how he justified his methods. As you say, it's not particularly useful in terms of predicting whether or not you would get in to a particular school, but it's good for finding schools to consider applying to that you might not have come across otherwise.
  17. hold on
  18. Yep. Waaaaaay too early for that. Once all your stuff has been received at the school then we really just have to wait. You don't want to irritate the admissions people at this time in the process. If later on in the process (say March) you see that other applicants have received decision and you have not, then you could ask.
  19. Remember that neither of you has to make a decision before April 15, so you *should* have all or close to all the information you're going to need by then. You shouldn't let your schools know that you need to have your SO be admitted to his program (and vice versa) in order for you to come, until you get admitted. If there is a program that really wants either of you, then you could let them know that you deciding to come is contingent on the other's admission and the two departments may be able to work together. Katherine Sledge Moore has some really good advice on this (she went through the process herself) here: http://sites.google....wo-body-problem
  20. A lot of places don't allow you to make any changes to your SoP once it has been submitted, but it's still worth asking the admissions people at the department if it can be updated. The error might not affect your application at all, but it is possible it might. Do other schools call their departments 'Department of Chemical Engineering'? If so, it is possible the adcomm could think that some other school was your first choice - I don't know if it will affect the possibility of admission, or even how much, but it is possible that it could.
  21. Don't give up hope yet. It's still early and yes, the wait is excruciating but soon we'll know. Hope you get in with funding!
  22. I think that's a good model you have there. I would personally consider location as a factor as well - which would comprise things like the weather, how easy/affordable will it be to visit family, big city vs small town. I would also factor in the reputation of the programs as well. Your maths look good - here's hoping you get multiple offers and a chance to use your model!
  23. Hey Nick, maybe if you asked this question in the Computer Science forum more CS people will see this topic.
