I think what is inspiring me is that I want to finish strong. Still it's nice to not have the stress of worrying about grad admissions.
-
That's crazy!! How the heck are people supposed to decide and make a deposit by April 15th if they still haven't heard from a handful of schools? These schools need to get it together!
To be fair, UTD does not have a 4/15 decision deadline.
-
What happens if you accept an offer at one school (since there's the April 15 deadline) and then you get accepted off the waitlist at your favorite program after April 15?
Can you back out after you committed to a program? Is there any kind of etiquette as far as this goes? Sorry if this seems like a silly question. By the way things have been going for me, this scenario could become a reality. I know of one program where people backed out last minute and it was too late for them to accept other students to fill the vacant spots.
I think grad schools plan for this, which is why some grad students accept students the week before classes start.

Chandru1, I am a student at UTD and the program never closes their classes for being too full, so you don't need to worry about getting a class you need. I also don't think you need to worry about the undergrad thing...they are pretty flexible and I doubt they would ever make that in to a big deal.
This is relieving to hear! Thank you so much!

I called the graduate department at UT-Dallas and I spoked to someone who verified that they had my transcripts and she explained to me that "final transcripts" are for after I complete undergrad...
I just checked my receipt for my transcript order and I sent them to the right place so I am still confused...
Thanks for replying!
I remember getting that too, shortly before my portal updated saying I was accepted (but shortly after I got the email from Dr. Stillman saying that I was in).
I cannot see why they would ask for your final transcripts without admitting you, but I am not sure. The process has been convoluted!
I'm now concerned that I can't register for classes until my undergrad degree has been posted, but that's two months after graduation. How do I go about proving graduation sooner?

I personally am not sure of my identity as a PoC (I'm Indian), but I have also noticed that the field is overwhelmingly female (asha says 95% of SLPs are female). I think part of the reason I would like to enter the schools is to be in an environment in which they don't see many guys.

I am going through the same dilemma! I keep getting emails saying that my final transcripts have not been received but when I called and explained this to them they said they received my official transcripts and gave me a date and everything...I just received an email this morning saying that they are still missing my final transcripts...so confused and I sent my official transcripts in January, I guess I'm going to have to call them again later today
Who is "them?"
There is the SLP department located in Dallas at the Callier Center. Do NOT send transcripts to them.
There is also the UTD main office in Richardson. You send transcripts there.
This is the most plausible reason as to why your documents appear to be Schrodinger's transcripts - Callier may have them but Richardson may not.
If you haven't already, I would fedex the transcripts to Richardson asap.

You aren't a car, a phone, or some kind of product to be "marketed" to grad committees. You are a person with a lot going for you. I would focus on keeping your grades up, and choosing extracurriculars that you are passionate about, not those that you think will secure admission into a college.

chandru1- Oh trust me I have! Everything is there except my official final college transcript due May 1, 2015 which I'm assuming they only want when you accept their admission invitation. I submitted mine near the deadline in February. Just saw that my application fee didn't go through until February 16 (one day late) so that makes me nervous.
I would recommend calling them and asking about the applicstion and any updates.
I'm also a bit concerned about the due date - it is 3 years in the past. Even if it is 5/1/15, I doubt transcripts showing degree conferral will arrive at that time.
-
Hello! Just wondering when you all submitted your application to UT Dallas? I haven't heard anything from them yet and it seems like a lot of people have! Also are you in state?
I submitted in January and heard back two weeks ago.
Check on your applicant center at utdallas.edu/status to make sure that all materials have arrived.

Check your Emerson portal; I saw that quite a bit of people got responses today.
Finally got a rejection from emerson. Good to have closure!
-
You say you have lab experience. I recommend looking up professors in your field of interest and contacting them. That should help with admissions. Good luck!

Hi guys! Has anyone not heard from any schools yet?
I've applied to six schools - Emerson, Monmouth, Loyola, Towson, University of Virginia, and Old Dominion, and haven't heard from a single school yet! It's driving me up the wallllllllll. Is anyone in the same boat?
Definitely call emerson. Even if you applied one minute before the deadline, it has been a week since they promised to send out all decisions.

Let's lighten up the mood by posting music pertinent to this stressful season. I hope this is allowed in this forum!
This song has been in my head throughout the admissions process:
Edit: wrong link. I was NOT thinking of a Bollywood song!

Why are the west coast schools taking so long? The waiting was difficult before but now that I see so many other people finding out the waiting is even harder. Have you heard anything about WW, PSU, or U of O? I checked last year and PSU and U of O send out acceptances on the 6th and 7th of March, but I guess they are pushing it back a little this year. Sigh.
In their defense, the east coast schools had much earlier admission deadlines than west. At least for me, all of my Boston and NY schools were due by 1/5, while the California schools were due in mid January and February.

If you have access to an accredited community college, you get get a sociology and stats course and do them over the summer cheaply.
-
MGH is interesting - they're emailing us and telling us to check the portal in an hour.

I just booked my flight for a visit next month! If anyone is going to be at UTD in early April, PM me (I don't want to publicly announce the dates though I trust you all). We should have a grad cafe accepted students meetup!
-
has anyone else still not heard from NYU?
They say "mid to late March" so they have 25 more days to notify us…
-
Hey do you know if they are sending it by waves?
Are there any schools that DONT send decisions out by waves? All the schools I have applied to have sent decisions to their top applicants already, but leave the rest in limbo.
-
You already got a rejection from UOP? I haven't heard from them!
In a way. I forgot to fill out the supplemental application.
-
I have heard nothing.

Look for schools that offer an M.Ed degree, eg SJSU.
Maybe also Columbia Teachers College?

@chandru1 @twinguy7 Excellent advice. What do you suggest if you've already submitted your applications? Would you recommend contacting departments then? I definitely should've contacted them before submitting my apps, but oh well.
I can't imagine it would help this late in the game. If for whatever reason you find yourself reapplying, I recommend making contacts well before the applications are due.

I completely agree. My mgh waitlist letter says that they can admit me one week before classes start. Because one week is more than enough time to cancel work/school plans and find housing on the opposite coast.
I don't know what I would do without the UTD acceptance.
