Care to divulge who you might be interested in working with at Binghamton?
-
TA-ing is a piece of cake, but you may want to consider contacting advisors current students to see what their impressions of the advisor and the department in general have been. Good luck!

I was so happy to read this posting. I too received horrid GRE scores and while I believe that they did contribute to my application being tossed in to the reject pile immediately I have been accepted at one school thus far with a sexy funding package and could hear from more in a matter of weeks. I refused to re-take the GRE. I felt that giving any more of my funds to ETS would not be the appropriate thing to do. I am sure that I could have improved my scores significantly if I had the resources to spare, but I am glad that I stood by my convictions. Q500 V510 A5.0

I just noticed a CUNY acceptance on the results page. Would anyone have any inside CUNY info? If anyone is willing to claim the acceptance what is your subfield? Congratulations!

Are all of you waiting on the Public History MA program? Any PhD applicants? Any history Apps?
-
I would highly recommend doing this. During last season's application cycle I contacted my top choice to discuss what had gone wrong and the DGS was extremely helpful in discussing with me the application. As a result of the phone conversation I was also offered admission into the MA program. I assume that this is relatively rare, but you never know. Good luck! Additionally, you may want to share your info with Grad Cafe people who could offer advice on how you might improve your situation as well.

According to the results page responses arrive via post. I am also anxiously awaiting. Perhaps today could be the day? -
The end of March? For the PhD applicants as well? I was really hoping for the first week in March. Oh, that makes decision time so much tighter. Blah... On the other hand it is good to know that they have not made decisions already.

Helps to know that I am in good company. I wonder how long it will take. The wait is agonizing... but heavy with possibility.

Is anyone else waiting to hear from UMass Amherst? Any inside info? I cannot seem to find any data on the results page to suggest when they might start informing applicants of acceptances/rejections. Good luck to everyone!

Age Play a Role in Decisions?
Victorianna replied to durkin65's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I have read that when considering candidates for admission programs are interested in candidates who are self-motivated and are so determined that they will succeed whether they enter a PhD program or not. In this way I think that age could be seen as an advantage. If you have gained some type of career experience in your field and proven that you are driven to succeed this could be a strength. I am also sorry to hear that this application cycle has not been kind to you. I hope that the future has better things in store. -
As the history results are trickling in I am wondering what schools are making us wait. I am waiting on a few and it seems that one of my top choices will not respond until March (!) Who are you waiting for and who do you think will make you wait the longest? Good luck to everyone

How to Word Email Declining Offer?
Victorianna replied to SuddenlyParanoid's topic in Decisions, Decisions
Congratulations on your many acceptances! What an achievement! It is important to inform your POCs soon to allow other waitlisted candidates the opportunity to attend. You should contact the POCs in the manner in which they communicated with you (ie. phone, email, etc.). You will want to be grateful, polite and brief. It is not necessary to explain why you are declining, but depending on the relationship you have with that POC or the relationship your LOR writers have with that POC you may wish to be a little more detailed in your response. I intend to write an email thanking my POC, briefly explaining that I will not be attending (but not why) and emphasizing my interest to maintain contact with the POC in the future. We are working in the same field and are working toward the same goals in a way after all. Good luck with the remainder of your applications! -
Mr. Zipper- Congratulations on your acceptance! What an achievement! Is it fair to assume that JHU is done making offers? Any info would be greatly appreciated

I thought that I might add my 2 cents. The Americorps VISTA program is a one year commitment. During your one year contract your public student loans (government subsidized) are deferred. If anyone has any questions concerning the VISTA program please feel free to send me a PM

HELP! missing rec letter ,what should i do?
Victorianna replied to heavenisgood's topic in Waiting it Out
There may still be time. You should get a back up LOR immediately. You may want to contact the graduate school to inquire about the likeliness of your application being considered. This happened to me in a previous application cycle and I found a back up and was admitted with funding to one of the schools I applied to at the end of the application season. Do not give up. Good luck! -
I am wondering about the Johns Hopkins acceptance. Would anyone care to comment?
