  1. Why did you get your C's / B's? How did you improve back to A's? Don't give excuses. Explained what you learned and how you improved from your poorer grades. My GPA went to hell because I took the 3 hardest and most time consuming classes in the dept at the same time. I thought I could do it. But I learned to set more realistic goals. I explained in my SOP. I don't know about how to explain your low GRE. But have you let your advisor read your drafts of SOP?
  2. I decided to head up early( in june) to start my research so I've got a place already picked out . A room in a house in Davis Square.
  3. Absolutely. Two of my reviewere mentioned that my extensive presentations was evidence that I could communicate my work. If you have to fund it yourself, and you can afford it it is still worth it. Professional Growth networking etc. And then just stay for a few more days to explore the city for some personal time!
  4. Hmm safety. I'd say the immediate area is pretty safe. I walk 20 minutes to school because I park in the surrounding neighborhoods. East of campus, north of Anaheim. It's cheaper than a parking permit. There are a few open places there. I know people live in http://www.bixbyhillapts.com/2/Apartments-for-Rent-in-Long-Beach-California/ and I don't think you can get much more convenient than that. A lot of people live here: http://csulb.och101.com/North-America/United-States/California/Long-Beach/1718-Ximeno-Avenue-25092/ Convient but not as safe as the other places I've mentioned. There are some sketchy areas in downtown for sure. SKETCH. But there are okay places in LB proper. There are also some really nice places in neighboring cities: seal beach, rossmoor, Westminster, Huntington Beach. I prefer south of the city because then you aren't fighting traffic on the 405. Realistically, you need a car. And if you have a car, a commute thats less that 10 miles isn't that bad. It's pretty standard for our commuter school.
  5. Backside attack, i am also in a very similar position. UG chem awardee whose pi would like them to teach for the first year. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet either. What are your pros and cons
  6. VG/E VG/VG and E/E. I am in love with my third reviewer. She/He also mentioned how great my project was for the PI I wanted to work with. noted : GPA is not as high as peer group in this very competitive GRF pool. ( I have 3.57) But noted it was from a bad semester 3C's and was very positive about the r4est of my record is great. Im so glad it looked like she/he really READ my app. senior chem! edit: ps. i got it.
  7. Logged in and saw welcome fellow! I'm so excited! I keep getting "kicked out due to inactivity", which is weird? Thanks for partying with me ladies and gents.
  8. Hah I think we crashed both gradcafe and fastlane.
  9. Well I'd like to think we're all having a wait party together.
  10. Hey team, I'm joining Brandeis Chem this fall, and I'm excited to meet you all. Ha! What program are you going to be in? I'm actually headed up next week for a visit/check out housing in the area. What are your thoughts on where you want to live? Cheers and Congrats!
