  1. I haven't heard anything either. Two of my schools haven't sent out any decisions and the other has sent out acceptances, but I heard they're not done yet. I'm also expecting the worst.
  2. Yeah, this is a problem for us right now being in grad school already (my husband). It kind of stinks. Everybody is so much younger than us. We're lonely.
  3. Ok, I'm glad I'm not the only one I knew there were a few of us out there. I appreciate your insight about my background. I thought that it would be interesting when I was applying, but the more I think about it, the more I look like a mixed bag. It's just frustrating when you realize you went to school for so long, worked so hard for your degrees, and then realize that what you do "is okay", but this is NOT what you want to do: there is no passion...And then you find something else that you *really* enjoy and can you see yourself doing... but it may never happen because you didn't make up your mind when you were 18.
  4. (Yes, I hate this wait, I'm just starting random topics! ) I have a BS in engineering and I'm applying to sociology and theology programs (I have a masters in theology), which I believe is giving my adcoms good reasons to laugh I really believe that the fact that I'm going so far from my discipline will ultimately hurt my chances to be admitted. Am I the only crazy one?
  5. Hmm... kind of similar situation for us! He heard later from his top schools. In fact, he never heard back from one of his top schools, so he assumed he was rejected. He called and was told by an admin person he was indeed rejected. ON APRIL 15TH, he gets an e-mail from the DGS from this top school telling him that a spot had been open and that they would be offering him admission. Apparently, he had been on the waitlist the entire time since February, but they sent his notification to the wrong e-mail address. Now we are here at that top school... We had to make the decision in a matter of minutes, since it was April 15th already. Crazy!
  6. I thought about that as I was writing it... play of words
  7. Same here. My husband applied last year and now we're at the top school were he got accepted. I waited a year and now I'm applying and limited geographically. My husband was also VERY positive, but now he's wondering what my plan B is going to be
  8. My husband applied there last year for philosophy and got waitlisted. Then he saw the kind of stipend that those who had already been accepted were getting and lost interest quite rapidly (not a stipend you can live decently with). I do hope you guys hear good news about university fellowships though. It kind of stinks that you are really happy about an acceptance and then don't hear anything about funding.
  9. Same here! It's really depressing to read our Plan Bs! I think my additional Plan B is to get pregnant.
  10. If you don't have any FB friends that are applying in the same discipline or same schools you're applying to, then I don't see any problem. My husband didn't post his acceptances last year, because he had many fellow grad students from his dept applying to the same schools. I, for one, can't post absolutely anything, because I have to keep my full-time job until the summer, if I do get into any of the schools.
  11. I haven't heard from any of the schools, but considering that I will probably be rejected across the board, I am wondering what I'm going to do with my life. I don't have a plan B other than keeping my current full-time job, which is not terrible, but I was really planning on going to grad school this fall and was really excited...
  12. I have also been 5 years out of undergrad, but I was able to contact one of my professors and he remembered me right away. Our department was small though. The fact that the professors said that to you, in my opinion, is awful. I mean, they could even ask you for an updated CV, maybe copies of your assignments in their classes, and try to refresh their memory. Are you applying to an MBA program? A friend of mine just applied and got accepted into the WashU MBA program and she just had (3) professional letters of recommendation. She had been out of school for over 8 years. She had also just changed jobs, so she asked her former boss for one and then two in her new job. Sorry this is not that helpful. I'm really sorry that your professors replied that way. Good luck!
  13. Same here. I feel for you. Good luck though.
  14. I'm also waiting to hear from Duke. I'm just expecting the worst already. Good luck to you!
  15. Thank you so much for the info! Although I'm already assuming I will be rejected across the board.
  16. YES, YES, YES to curufinwe and Jerry!! Yes, as in I feel the same way! They are SUCH a monopoly. It's a complete scam. Potential grad students should not have to pay this much money on top of applications. With my husband applying last year, we spent over $2000 between applications and GREs. He applied to over 20 schools, so we gave the GRE at least between $400 and $600 (test + sending test scores). That is not counting the $450 I wasted on them this past December in less than 3 days trying to take the darn exam!!! Do you guys want to start a website campaign against the ETS, GRE and list some of the things already included on this website?
  17. Yes, the driver's license counts. The problem is that you have to register with the same name that is in your driver's license. In other words, you can't use other supporting documents to prove that you are indeed that person, in case your name is different. Like I said, you can use supporting documents when flying a plane, but not to take the GRE! Oh and I'm sorry about the hundreds of dollars. I guess you spent them in travel and we just gave them to ETS!
  18. Same as Focused. I'm SO tired. The silence is actually worse than seeing acceptances that are not yours. It doesn't help that I work in front of a computer all day, because I check this website 100+ times a day.
  19. I hear you... We are also restricted geographically, so my options are not many... this wait stinks. Good luck to you and hope you hear from UT soon!
  20. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. I took the GRE on December 7th and the official scores arrived at the schools December 16th. No problem.
