Does high verbal and written trump low quant?

Thank you!

What other schools have that emphasis? I'm applying to Gallaudet but I'd like to maybe add a few more schools that would prepare me for working with the d/Deaf and hard of hearing community.

Does anyone know of any east coast schools that have a focus on ASL and working with the d/Deaf and hard of hearing community? I'm already applying to Gallaudet but I was wondering if there were any others worth looking into.

This is a random question but does a SOP need a title? I currently have a header at the top of mine with my name and the page number but do I need a title?

Less competitive schools in the east coast
slptobe92 replied to Slp123*'s topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
New York Medical College is very competitive. I visited there and before I visited when I was trying to set up the visit, they told me my GPA should be higher before I apply. Mine was a 3.3 and they were very very adamant about telling me I needed a 3.5 to even be considered. They've very competitive especially since they're a medical college. NYU is competitive as well. Not sure all these are accurate, lots of schools on here are very hard to get into for any of their programs. This field is very competitive. -
That makes sense, thanks!

Less competitive schools in the east coast
slptobe92 replied to Slp123*'s topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
The northeast is one of the most competitive places for SLP grad schools. "Less competitive" usually just means they have a bigger class therefor they accept more people, but you still need good stats to get into any SLP program. It's a competitive field. -
Does anyone know what "status: accepted" means when it comes to LORs on CSDCAS? One of my letters has already been submitted and it says "status: completed" and another one says "status: requested" which I assume just means she hasn't submitted it yet which makes sense. But the last one says "status: accepted" and I'm not quite sure what that means. Does anyone know?

Does high verbal and written trump low quant?

I think it depends on the school, but I've heard that most SLP programs look at verbal more than any other part of the GRE. I even had an application only ask me for my verbal score. Math and science are often lumped together but honestly as an SLP you won't be doing much math it's much more science-based (unlike audiology which is very math and algorithm-based). Good luck! -
Hey guys! This post isn't 100% about grad school but I thought maybe some of you all could help me out. So, I just graduated with a B.S. in Psychology and realized before I even graduated that I didn't want a career in Psychology at all (but it was too late to change majors). I just recently got into coding and even though I'm a newbie I absolutely love it. I think I would love being a software developer (obviously with more experience) but I'm wondering if I need a new degree for that. Is it worth getting a CS degree or should I just keep teaching myself and creating a portfolio? I think I would like software developing because I'm pretty introverted and would rather deal with computers most days than people. Plus I've been addicted to coding since I started and the idea of creating my own apps and software and all kinds of stuff is so exciting to me! Anyway, if anyone has any words of wisdom please let me know! Thanks guys

I graduated from college in May with a B.S. in Psychology. I was going to do grad school for SLP straight from undergrad but started questioning it and got way too stressed out so I decided to take this year to take the pre-req classes and apply for fall 2016. I took two classes over the summer and got A's in both and enjoyed them. Now I'm taking three classes and doing fairly well, but I find the course material to be insanely boring. I feel like I'm losing my passion for this field and I'm doubting if I ever even had passion to begin with. I used to think I wanted to work in pediatrics because I did a lot of babysitting as a teenager. Now I work part-time in a daycare and don't ever want to work with kids for a living. I don't want to work in a nursing home or hospital, either. Honestly I can't even tell you a legit reason why I really want to be an SLP other than the career stability and money. I know I know, it's bad. My question is this: do I push through and apply to school anyway or quit right now? The thing is, if I stop now I don't know what else I'll do. I'm living at home right now because my parents are paying for my schooling. I know they'll be disappointed if I quit because they've already put in a lot of money toward everything. Also, I have a B.S. in psychology so I'm not exactly qualified for many jobs. I have no idea what to do and I need serious help here

Does anyone go here/know anyone who goes here? This is my number one school right now because of location and price. Can anyone give me more information on what their program is like? And yes, I've looked at their website backwards and forwards but I want an insider's POV

Here are my stats and information: Bachelor's degree in Psychology, GPA of 3.0 Currently taking SLP undergrads and have a GPA of 4.0 GRE: 154/149/4.0 I'm applying to Southern Connecticut State University (my top choice), SUNY New Paltz, and James Madison University. I currently work as an infant hearing screener and also in a daycare part-time. Are my stats good enough to get me into the schools I've listed? I know schools in the northeast are the most competitive but that's really where I want to be. I live in Virginia and went to undergrad here so I'm really only applying to JMU for my mom's sake since my parents are paying for my schooling. I don't want to take the GRE again because I have terrible test anxiety and I've already taken it twice. I know my undergrad GRE is bad but that's because I was totally lost and changed my major 3 times and didn't even know what SLP was until the end of my junior year. If I keep up my 4.0 GPA in my pre-req classes could I get in to these schools?

I graduated this past May with my B.S. in Psychology from one of the top polytechnic institutes on the east coast. During undergrad, however, I changed my major about a million times and only settled on Psychology because I had to pick something in order to graduate on time. I'm in pre-req classes now for Speech Pathology but the passion just isn't there. What I like about SLP is the career stability and money. I'm way more interested in technology and business because I'm quite introverted and the idea of working with computers instead of people appeals to me so much more than exerting myself working with people alllll day long. I'm really interested in Pace University's MBA in Information Systems because of the blend of IT and business (my brother works in IT and loves it, so he's given me a bit of insight into the field). I'm doubting that I can get into any MBA or Master's program though because of my grades. I have a 3.0 GPA from undergrad (4.0 in my SLP pre-reqs but that does me no good now) and 154/149/4.0 GRE from my second time taking it (in anticipation of applying to SLP programs). Do I have any chance of getting into school?

I just graduated with a psych degree and it'll be no problem for any school as long as you have the prereqs they require. Ithaca saves the majority of their spots for their undergrad students so it's hard to get into otherwise. I got rejected from there last cycle and they don't even have a spot on the app for an essay. I'd skip it. Also, take the GRE as early as you can so you have time to retake it if you don't like your scores.

Thank you both so much for your replies! What classes are you in right now? I'm starting with 201 and 285 in May. Can you tell me how the testing process works? I've taken online classes before for undergrad where I had to go somewhere to take the test and I'm just wondering how that works with these classes. Thanks for all your help!

Is anyone on here taking pre-reqs through Longwood? I'm starting them this summer. If you're doing this too we should start a Facebook study group or something! Also, if you took the SLPOnline program at Longwood previously can you tell me anything about how it was? Thanks!

I'm currently in my senior year of college and I'm working on applications for grad school in speech pathology. I entered college having no idea what I wanted to do with my life and only discovered SLP my junior year, so I feel really behind. I'm a psych major with no CSD classes because my school doesn't offer them. My GPA is a 3.1 and GRE scores are in the high 140's with a 4.5 writing. I have good letters of rec (one from an SLP I worked with over the summer) and a good SOP but I feel so unprepared and like I might as well not even apply because I don't stand a chance getting in. Thoughts? I've seen posts from people who applied every year for 4 or 5 years and it's discouraging me I'm applying to Ithaca, NYMC, NYU, Columbia, Temple, UVA, ODU, and University of DC.
