  1. Emailed with an admin person at Indiana a while back about when applicants might hear and they said: "Because so many things have changed this year, they are not certain. Their goal is January 31, 2023, but that could change."
  2. The professor didn't say this, but I imagine if they did it in batches last year like the previous poster said, then they will probably repeat that this cycle.
  3. UCLA definitely don't interview, I spoke with a professor who confirmed that they just send out admissions.
  4. Thanks! Broadly I'm interested in education, social movements, race and sport, so kind of all over the place (although they all intersect). Like I said - don't lose hope as they seem to be sending them out over a few days rather than all at once! Good luck!
  5. Hey All! Just got an interview invite from a POI at Irvine - has anyone been through this interview process who might have some tips on how to prepare? ? First response this season so I'm feeling pretty nervous! To the poster asking on Monday about UCI interviews - they are definitely very spread out because I only heard today!
  6. Yes, I'm still in UK! I'm familiar with this part of California (family in the state) and after discussions with a few people, I was just keen on the program/thought it could be a good fit. I'm (hopefully) not under any illusion of what to expect. Thanks for looking out though! ?
  7. Has anybody here heard anything from Riverside yet? I saw a rejection posted on the board, but still no update on my portal!
  8. Thanks for sharing! Hopefully we'll hear next week ?
  9. Re: UC Santa Cruz, I saw someone posted an interview on the results board on 19th Jan - not sure if this is real though? In previous years they've sent out their results by now (end of Jan/very beginning of Feb), but this year does seem to be a massive deviation from usual timelines for a lot of schools...
  10. I'm wondering the same thing re: UC Riverside!
  11. I also just received the UMN rejection. Good luck with all of your other applications!
  12. Yeah the rejections coming out a couple of weeks ago for UMN has really confused me... Hopefully we'll all hear something soon! This year seems to be a wild one, like we can't really rely on the usual timelines.
  13. I'm also an international student (not my first application cycle). I feel like being an international student (with masters from UK as well) can often be a disadvantage just in terms of the university securing funding etc. and maybe with the translation of the first/distinction grading system, but this is mostly assumption on my part. I feel like it might be tougher in this cycle too, with lots more US applicants and less funding available at universities (again, this is pure conjecture). That said, I know a lot of UK students who have got into top US schools, so it's definitely doable! Best of luck!
  14. Has anyone got any insight into what's happening with Minnesota - they've usually sent out offers by now, and there were a couple of rejections last week?... Good luck everyone and well done those who already have offers in hand ?
  15. UC Santa Cruz have waived it, Minnesota Twin Cities have waived it. USC have said: "Students who are unable to take the GRE in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic will be given full consideration and may be admitted without taking the exam."
  16. So, it seems like loads of programs have waived the GRE requirements this year - which is definitely positive given what I've seen about trying to take the exam this year! But a few that I've seen say that you can optionally submit GRE scores, and I'm not sure if it's going to be something that helps an application or not. I'm an international student (from the UK) and my GRE scores are 166V, 155Q. I'm wondering if submitting these would be helpful or it's not worth doing? I can see that it might be good to show that, as an international student, I have some familiarity with the North American system but my scores aren't super-high so I feel like it might not actually be that helpful!! Any thoughts welcome and appreciated! ?
  17. I did notice it's always around 25th, but since there was only one post this year I wondered if it would be later. Oh well! We'll find out soon enough, I suppose! Congrats on your admits so far!!
  18. I was also confused by the USC thing, not sure whether that one post meant they notified people on 25th Jan. I also applied for the Communication PhD at USC and there's been nothing from that course on the board either, so don't know whether USC are just running late this year or what!
  19. I wouldn't lose hope, since it doesn't seem like anyone's heard from USC yet... I'm hoping they're just running late this year, as there seems to be no evidence of anyone getting accepted/rejected/anything!
  20. Has anybody got an idea what's going on with USC? Past couple of years, acceptances seem to be sent on 3rd Feb but nothing on the board yet....
  21. Did anyone see the acceptance on the board for USC on 25th Jan? Seems odd that it's only one acceptance, but historically they have sent out decisions on this date... Has anyone heard anything from USC?
  22. Has anybody heard anything from Irvine?... Or any idea when they might send out their offers? Congrats to everyone that's got interviews/acceptances so far!
  23. First off, congratulations to all those that have been admitted this cycle! For those who haven't, like myself, I'm wondering about the process of asking for feedback on unsuccessful applications, in order to improve applications for the next cycle... A professor told me I should contact the Chair of the Graduate Committee, but does anyone know how one might go about finding who this is for a particular department? Also, is this a reasonable thing to do, or is it frowned upon? And do departments tend to offer useful feedback or just generic?
  24. It's in the communication department not sociology, but I got an email with a letter attached from USC to inform me of being on the "alternate list".
  25. I don't think it's bad at all, also they don't ask who's calling in my experience so even if they think it's nosy they won't know it's you! ?
