Outstanding, thank you! Was this for Western's PhD program I assume?
-
No, that's perfect. This should be some good information for those keeping data on admissions and waitlists.

I was, rather hilariously, emailed and told of my WL at a Canadian school the morning after the GOP debate. Coincidence? or pity?
-
This thread is a place for people (like me) to gain small amounts of hope from hearing which school offers people (like you) are going to decline. So, if you've been offered admission (or put on a WL) and have declined or intend to decline, you're welcome and encouraged to say so here. Thanks! (I did totally steal this idea from someone else, but seeing as it hasn't happened yet--I thought I'd get the ball rolling)

I saw a couple of GC results that said they checked the website--I checked and mine still says "submitted." Then I remembered I applied to their HPS program which I genuinely can't remember if it's a separate department or not. But I guess apparently it is? That's my best explanation. (Despite the fact that positing the existence of departments which may or may not exist is blatantly contrary to abductive reasoning)

I've still not received my ND rejection yet... hmmn. (I'm sure it's on the way)

Bye bye MIT sniff

Same. And same.

Waitlisted at Western!!! Oh god I want this so bad.... This came via email letting me know that, sadly, they're only able to fund very few international students, but I'm on their waitlist so we'll see.

It is hard to keep hopes up, for sure. Right now, I only have one WL. That's it. Out of 10 schools, one so far has said, "Eh, you may not be that bad, but lets not make any commitment yet..." So basically, I feel as happy as the guy who proposed to his partner on bended knee and hears them respond, "Eh, you may not be that bad, but lets not make any commitments yet..."

these words are real right now

The second year is honestly a lot easier than the first year. First of all, you have all of your material from the prior year so making small changes and improvements is much easier than writing entirely new statements and whatnot. As well, you can review your writing sample (mine sucked) and make changes or even use a completely different one. Or multiple: This year, I used two different writing samples and I'm interested in tracking the results based on which places I get accepted or WL'd (relative to which writing sample I submitted). Hang in there--it gets better.

Congratulations ND admits! I knew I shouldn't have told them I was a Buddhist...
-
I can get behind this. So far only bad news and one piece of "maybe" news.

There's a Yale acceptance up... shakes uncontrollably

I just saw a Western acceptance and it wasn't me! cries sobs

I believe I said I was a fan of the writing; as a teacher, I find them incredibly stimulating for discussion and reflection. Especially the Crito, which when paired with something like Letters from a Birmingham Jail, can lead to some rather interesting discussions on the nature of duty and justice. And of course Euthyphro is a dweeb--that's the point -
As if we don't have enough of our own rejections to deal with...

It might be a bit passe but both Kierkegaard and Camus for me. As well as, perhaps unsurprisingly, Plato. I find reading the various Socratic dialogues incredibly peaceful and often inspiring by their simplicity. Favorites include Euthyphro, Apology, Meno, and Crito (ok, I have a thing for death. Whatever.) -
Wrong forum but good luck

I applied to western but it wasn't that exact program. Hopefully I hear something soon!

Oh, well assuming that post is true, that was for their MA program. I'm not sure we should assume that the contact methods would be the same for MA and PhD (do they waitlist their MA applicants first as well?)
