Hi everyone! I just discovered this forum. I'm an international student and managed to get admission in Mason and Gross at Rutgers with an almost full scholarship. I was wonder what your views were on this program? My other option is University of British Columbia. Any advise anyone?

Hello @Madiha! Congratulations on your acceptances!! The program at Rutgers is solid and, considering the recent changes, looks as though it will only get better. You'll be entering the program at an exciting time. I'd pick Rutgers without hesitation. Again, congratulations!!

@MrBixler Thank you! Yeah I hope to visit as soon as possible but they are on break this week. heh. I believe that I was able to successfully buy time from Berkeley so that should make this easier.

@langley Hi! thank you for the advice. I don't have a letter from Berkeley about the 25th, that was just a date that we had agreed upon in order to give them time to lock down TA positions for me. I believe that I might be able to get an extension on that though. I am going to do everything I can to visit UCLA. I won't make a decision before doing so.

That is interesting that you heard mostly negative things about the program. They have been my top-choice school for years now. Everything I have encountered points to it being a top-notch program but I live on the east coast and don't have much contact with west coast artists. Do you recall any specific complaints that you heard (ie too commercial, bad facilities, distracted faculty)?

    Thanks again for the advice!

    Wishing you good luck!

Congratulations to everyone on their momentum! (whether that is into a grad program or back into their work with a newfound vigor)

I got into UCLA's Design Media Arts last night. I am still fairly shocked. That program is the top tier in my field. I have to make a really immense decision very soon because I really truly loved Berkeley and they both have similar funding packages. The catch is Berkeley needs me to decide by the 25th (!) in order to secure their funding. I haven't even visited UCLA yet! Anyone have any advice?

    Congratulations @mlarghydracept!!

My strong suggestion is to make every effort to visit UCLA this week so you can make an informed decision. Good luck!

Congratulations @MrBixler and @tynnifer--I also got an interview for the 8th for ruskin, so good luck to all of us!

@mfinley6021 I have my interview w RCA next week--any advice? I'm quite nervous. And congrats to you as well!! Sounds like you have a lot of exciting options

Congratulations to you, @beemovie. Hoping we all receive good news from the schools who have yet to make decisions and  wishing everyone the best of luck with upcoming interviews!

I will begin sending out applications in September, which seems a far way off... but my GRE is fast approaching in May, and I am a wreck.  I have a study plan and I am working diligently until then, but the practice tests keep throwing me through loops and causing me headache after headache... so yeah, I am stressing pretty badly over these exams!  Any advice or encouragement would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

As others have expressed, Magoosh is indeed fantastic! Magoosh has a GRE Vocabulary Flash Card app and a GMAT Math Flash Card app that I found very useful for my GRE preparation.

I supplemented Magoosh Quantitative preparation with a private tutor (Skype sessions) who is absolutely outstanding! PM me if you'd like his contact information.

    Good luck!

it might be a little too early in the process to post this, but to those of you who are stressed because you haven't received good news from the schools you had your heart set on, i just wanted to say that i know exactly how you feel and maybe share a bit of my story, for what it's worth. this is my second year applying--last year, i applied to 5 schools, had interviews at 3, and got accepted to 2. of the two schools i was accepted to, the first gave me a terrible feeling from my interactions with the faculty, both in the interview and in email correspondence, and my gut told me that i would not be happy there. the second was USC, and even though it was obvious things were in flux there, i was still came very close to accepting their admissions offer (it would be a couple more months before the whole MFA class would drop out together). ultimately, there were too many unknowns (no set graduate faculty, funding offers that were changing from one call to the next, etc.), and i decided not to accept their offer either; with that, my hopes of going to grad school in 2015 went out the window. i was bummed, but i knew that i would be applying again this year and kept that in mind in all of things i did for the rest of 2015. I applied for more shows, more grant and funding opportunities, and a few residencies, and, while it may be too early to make this call, taking the extra year already seems to have paid off. i was able to apply with a portfolio of 75% new work, my interviews have gone better having done it once before, and the feedback and offers i've received so far are way beyond anything that came my way last year. i guess this is all to say i know how strange it feels to think you have a plan set out for the next two or three years and have that vaporize, but, if you don't get in anywhere you're excited about, that extra year might turn out to be a huge benefit. it was in my case. ;)

Thank you for sharing your experience. I have a similar story and wholeheartedly agree that the experience of applying (and interviewing) along with time to recalibrate, make new work and build experience has been invaluable.

Congratulations to you, dryheat! And, congrats to everyone else for staying the arduous course of applying to grad school. :)

    Congratulations!

Well, last year with NU, looks like they let people know in the first week of February. Their application deadline was fairly recent, too (the 12th, right?), so give 'em some time. It sounds like a lot of us here applied there; they might have a larger-than-normal crop of applications to sift through.

I'm personally wondering what the heck is taking Stanford so long -- their deadline was 12/8.

    Thank you for info!

Stanford's admission page indicated a gap between the application deadline and the committee's review. I believe their timeline re notice jibes with most other schools.

    Grueling!

    Good luck!!

So I would have posted this earlier but I was at the Grand Canyon and had spotty service.

Got an email from University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) saying I've been accepted for their Interdisciplinary Art and Social Practice program! Got a phone call later in the evening to follow up on the email.

Thank gawd I heard something back. I feel so relieved now that I got in somewhere (and one of the schools that was high on my list). Booking a ticket sometime soonish for an open studio visit in late March to check out the school!

    Congratulations!
