misswan, this is so exciting! My research-creation project is also in poetry/ poetics!! And I was informed I got the CGS (though again, I don't have the letter in my hand yet). It would be great to compare notes and discuss our work if you are interested.

    Congrats JW!
Would you mind sharing what publications (ie. writing, art making etc) or conferences or the like you included in your application? My research-creation project is in poetry and poetics and I've never seen one of those receive an award before...

Hi Briabot, Would you mind sharing what you did to improve your application from an 8 to a 15.3? I've gotten roughly a score of 11 the past two years and have had little idea how to improve it other than to continue publishing in my genre (creative publication). Thanks!

I am under the same impression (that not too many research-creation projects get funded) but I also applied under this category and did get funded this year (after being waitlisted last year). So it is possible! Good luck to all.

Trying not to lay much hope on the possibility. I applied under a 'creative-reserach' project and it seems very few of these get through.
    Good luck to you

Same here. I've had letters come from Canada to London in a few days and others in a few weeks--so there's really no telling how long we could be waiting...

I'm in the UK. The waiting is a kind of oppression.

For anyone else in the U.S. (I'm in Texas), as a point of reference, it took 8 days from the date of my initial letter in February until I received it. The struggle is real.

Right now, I am trying hard to focus on all of the reasons that it will be okay if I fail in this competition. I'm in Georgia (direct applicant), so it might be a few days before I know the results.
Maybe this will be helpful for other people?
    1. There are plenty of chances yet.
    2. Every year that you fail is a chance to gain more and more items to put on your CV.
    3. Success in this competition is not a measure of your worth.
    4. Just being in grad school is akin to winning lots of competitions!
    5. The harder you work to prove yourself, the better you become as a scholar.

If anybody else wants to chime in, feel welcome.

Congrats to all who were successful!

Last year SSHRC tweeted on Tues April 26th that letters had been mailed out. My friend in Ottawa got hers Mon April 25th (day before tweet). My friend and I who are located in Southern Ontario got ours on April 26th.
Here is a pic from SSHRC's Twitter account today. Should arrive any day now.....

Although this is true, it seems as though people started finding out last year by April 22 either through mail or by being notified by their department. I just checked with my department again and they have yet to receive word so I do think it's a bit delayed this year.

If they say "this week" today, I'm skeptical it's happening today... /sigh
My friend's prof is on one of the committees and said that the decisions are already made, they met almost a month ago to discuss them, apparently.

Someone asked on Twitter and SSHRC replied saying this week. The letter will probably go out likely today or tomorrow!

SSHRC has not yet tweeted about the letters. ... Once they do, I suspect it will take a couple of days.

I'll have experience of a Masters degree in the UK and (hopefully) a PhD in the US so I may be able to compare. In the application stage, already there are so many differences. I'm happy to discuss them on another thread like fuzzy suggests. Misswan, I'm glad you're finding others in the same boat and it sounds to me like it's just a bit of a culture shock. If you want some translating, I'm happy to try and assist (american boyfriend, I'm from the UK...I'm used to it lol). Feel free to send me a PM if you want.

misswan got a reaction from TakeruK in Quebec student loan tax letter?
    Hi Forum,

Posted here before regarding SSHRC, but this time I have a pressing question regarding a letter from the AFE (Quebec student loans).

They've requested a letter from me due to a discrepancy in my application a few months earlier and my recent tax submission. Has anyone else received this and might be able to clarify what they're looking for?

    The letter states:
Kindly submit the following documents so we can make the required corrections to your file... you need to clearly identify the source of all income reported on line 154. Upload documents:
-a letter explaining the differneces that were found
-prov and fed tax slips issued to you by employers, gov ministries and other bodies, institutions etc
    -your fed and prov assessments

Thank you to those who can shed some light.
